- Leonardo DiCaprio, The Great Gatsby - Leonardo DiCaprio reunites with his Romeo + Juliet director Baz Luhrmann on the much-anticipated cinematic treat, The Great Gatsby.
Taking on the role of author F. Scott Fitzgerald's playboy Jay Gatsby (originally made famous on film by Robert Redford) was not only a challenge for DiCaprio but an honour.
Tribute.ca spoke with Leonardo in New York about reuniting with Baz, taking on the iconic role, repeating the past and his upcoming fifth collaboration with director Martin Scorsese.
The Great Gatsby movie synopsis:
Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), a young man from Minnesota, moves to New York to learn about the bond business. He rents a house in the swanky West Egg district of Long Island. He eventually meets his neighbor Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) and gets caught up in his world of extravagant parties and people.
Based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, this story deals with the allure of fame and fortune, as well as the unbreakable bond of first love.

the fact that he questioned his acting being effortless just goes to show how he is one of the most humblest actors in Hollywood

this interviewer was AMAZING, no obvious questions and she actually let leo speak unlike in other ones and it led to a very decent discussions as to what leo thinks of his character in real life and as a Gatsby
Since Blood Diamond, I have liked him more and more. Its true that he has horned his craft and grown to be a refine actor. A little bit of Redford and Brando, in my opinion. And he's so gorgeous!
It's pathetic how people complain that some movies don't stay true to the book and yet when this came out in theaters people still managed to criticize this movie even though Dicaprio, in my opinion, portrayed Gatsby incredibly well.

I love DiCaprio. He's pretty damn talented, and is always a joy to watch. I'd put him in a top 20 or something, if I ever were to make a list about best actors. But sometimes you fangirls overrate him too much...

ozzy syd Robert De Niro manages to capture the essence of every character he plays, and it runs smoothly. He never tends to overact, and always stays in person. The guy manages to find the balance, and that's what I like best about him. Such a shame that he acts in shitty movies nowadays, but that's his decision.
Look at Raging Bull, or Taxi Driver, or Deer Hunter. He completely disolves into the character's mindset and manages to make you forget De Niro himself and concentrate on the character for a while.
Eric Cartman even al pacino does that...i admire that guy true inspiration...but what i cannot unhear is the frickin italian accent which is faintly there....

since 2002 he's been doing wonderful job, his performances are just incredible, which he mentions here he seeks more to become better. he's such a gentleman . i wish u had asked him if he did methodic for this role.

From the 3 movies, this one was by far the best and Leo was by far the best Gatsby. The man is a god himself and that was only emphasized in this movie! If he doesn't get an Oscar for this performance, I seriously think they just won't give him one no matter how amazing of an actor he is.

dude, this film got 50% on RT and is one of the most divisive films (NOT in a good way) of the year. i LOVE Leo and hope he does get his Oscar eventually, but no way in hell is he getting it for this one. it just won't happen. sorry. FYI, i LOVED Leo in this film and the film in general, but still.
