Yeah when i was testing ine shotting a player it only worked on capped armor when i leveled up my melee. Also, the wiki for the mod this fish came from said it could pick dinos with a drag weight under 210. Didn't test but its something.
I was so annoyed there was yet another aggressive ocean creature- but hearing that it attacks the other ocean creatures is actually really nice. The ocean really needed this. Very informative video!
I've heard they mostly only spawn on the outer edges of the ocean too, which is really nice because the modded version was a menace to society. They could grab entire sarcos and wouldn't let go of them until they were dead, which made doing anything in the water terrifying if you didn't have something big like a megalodon or a mosa
To be honest, I wasn't even angry when I got killed by them for the first time, i just felt a little bit nostalgic to the times when everything was new to me and I had literal fear of going into the ocean. 😅 Nevertheless, RIP my beloved Mantarius, he didn't make it through the first encounter with these fish 😂
Just had a Lv 150 female trap herself under my fort just off the shoreline. Had some help from a very helpful player who had the proper Kibble and the tranq darts for the longneck rifle. I was trying to use tranq arrows and a crossbow, but it looked like it was doing more harm than good and I didn't have the kibble. Dave talked me through the process and he is obviously a very experienced player with dragons, the big bug and other high level tames.

Most wild critters have a lot of health and their melee is often a tad lower, but it is the health that normally wins the day. I am assuming the wild critter doesn't have the advantage of more bites per hit, which they often have. Generally speaking, one on one is not a good option.
We tamed a 150 Female last night on our official pve center server. One thing to note about that is in pve you can't pick wild dinos so the grab/thrash thing doesn't work. It still dashes and does damage but you can't grab anything. On larger creatures it was giving the buff but it didn't appear to be doing the gnash (not completely sure on this). It seems like the regen has either been nerfed or doesn't work in pve either
*Pro Tip* If you use a base crossbow, shoot it once and WAIT 7 seconds (7 Mississippi's) then shoot again and repeat. This increases the chance of KO'ing it rather then killing it. Oh and don't try taming it on land, it will knock out but instantly die when it wakes up. Don't unmount it either or Instant death.
only problem I have with the Xiph is the Megs existence, it just seems way better as a pack creatures just worse as a mount (but it does have a tek saddle too)
You've covered more info on this then most other arktubers, I would love to know how they would fare in the underwater caves tho. Currently I like to ride a weightheavy basilo (to carry all the loot) while commanding a pack of 5-6 megs. Trouble with the megs however is that every once in a while they breach the surface for random reasons and instantdie.. fucking annoying. Once had 5 out of 6 megs do that on me in the middle of the hardest underwater cave, so dumb. These guys dont seem to have that weakness, and more so then that seems to be able to heal themselves. Could you test this possibly? I don't have enough hours in the day to do it myself, and you seem to be the one trying to make some youtube monehs.. :>
Thanks! and I would think that a pack of them could do just fine in caves with good stats and saddle, but the sharks bleed is just so consistent and strong that i would think that you would notice a drop in dps if you took them in instead of sharks. Specifically due to the damage reduction of dunkies armor, mate boost, and alpha boost
@@Doth_ mm then the question remains, does the increase in dps from sharks outweigh the benefit of having fishies that doesnt randomly die near the surface level, plus however in/significant the heal might turn out to be after a long ocean run. :> Ill probably give it a try but will be a while before Ive properly tested it.

And no go, cleared all spawns etc. It was fun, i cleared the tree spawns and lived up river in the swamp, sent out my battle rafts - alot of fun. ASA however, all spots are blocked - but you can place a new raft/motorboat in the interior rivers. It kinda sucks, because one super cool new ASA metal meta is a dunky - in the underwater pool with the Island submerged metal nodes. Legit, easist method imo as a small or solo tribe. But...I cannot float out of the rivers to ocean now, so lame :(

Why did they make it impassible for the rafts to transit from ocean to interior rivers on ASA island map?
on ase there were a couple spots where you could. It was not fun going throught the swamp with a boat but it was possible. Havent tried on asa though
