since getting more into vinland saga I really love Canut's pure hatred at the very concept of God. It seems in the time frame that he isn't quite capable of rejecting Gods existence, but instead he just rejects the idea of 'Gods plan', and is spiteful towards something so all powerful allowing the world to exist as it does. The conviction he's found is incredibly cool.

When talking about kiling the king, Canute just uses the word "yaru." This word has multiple meanings and can just mean "to do something" as well as a euphemism for "to kill." So anyone overhearing the conversation wouldn't get the context.
I feel like if Askellad revealed the truth of Floki putting the hit on Thors then Thorfinn might shift his anger elsewhere therefore rendering Thorfinn useless to Askellad. Initially when Thorfinn was just a kid he might've felt indifferent to him but as he grew older and became a killing machine it was a pretty obvious choice to not let Thorfinn know so he can keep using him
