Was laid off back last year. Been studying leetcode and applying for jobs for about 8 months now, and I can confidently say it’s one of the worst experiences of my personal and professional life. I really like this video series because you accurately speak to what I am going through. Keep it up man!

Same here! I got laid off and had to grind leetcode for 8 months as well. It almost made me hate software. Even companies that just pay average were asking me leetcode stuff.

I am on the same boat. It's so depressing when you cannot see path forward.

Sounds terrible guys. Hang in there. What’s the key blocker though?
You aren’t getting interviews or the level of interviews is ridiculous? Or it’s just that they want more experienced folks?

Geez, what's your background. Fullstack developer with CS degree, how many years of experience?

    • @Sonyemman97

4 years experience from what I thought was a pretty reputable company. Specialized in backend and cloud development. It’s not just juniors getting screwed

About WFH. I think what people really don't like, even more than "the office," is the commute. Everyone who hates commuting needs to get "orange pilled," and at least start talking about how car-dependent North American city design outside of few exceptions, truly sucks. Image what it would be like to walk a couple minutes to a transit stop, sit for a couple minutes, then be at work. Or, even better, just walk or bike for a bit and be at work. I much prefer this scenario than either long soul-crushing commutes or being stuck at home alone Monday through Friday. The change of scene and being around others helps my mental state a ton!

Apart from the commute, it’s the interaction as well. I don’t like working in the midst of others, and I don’t like talking too much

The way I cope with working remote is by practicing my small talk and being RELENTLESS (yes that needs caps to stress the point) in making connections with strangers whenever I see an opportunity. I wasn't always social, but you can learn it. That has helped me. I just sit at a cafe, I take a break, someone reads a book and I ask what book they're reading. Now I'm in a conversation. If that conversation vibes well, I will ask his/her number for a follow up.
    Stuff like that.
Also, rejection and social awkwardness are part of the deal. I've gotten used to that. Fuck the fear, with all the love and hate in my heart: fuck social fear.
With that mindset, working remote is way way way better. The only thing it really misses is colleagues that work with you on something and that quick back and forth. But loneliness? No, that's completely solvable. You gotta be a bit intense/extreme about it if you have my psychologically shy make-up but once you understand and are willing to pay the price, it's solvable. Face your fears or face depression (or just go back to the office).
A life of comfort is not my life, I can't afford to have one.

I really like this approach. I feel like you have a good structured approach. I used to just do a chaos approach and cram and interview until someone gave me a job. Are you waiting to interview, or also interviewing at the same time?

  • @ameerashhab6721

I've been 3 years fulltime and I haven't done Leetcode since. Todays interview approaches are really shit and I honestly don't enjoy Leetcode at all. I'd rather build stuff.
Some companies don't do Leetcode style interviews and most do.
All the best KC, keep it up!
