KC is like a bro you meet after dinner to talk about job market and life

Also mentioned this in one of the videos. Honestly, it feels like talking to a friend that knows you even more than family. Market is really tough and sad right now, but each notification from this guy makes things a bit more bearable.

That’s because he’s actually experienced it. It’s not like that uncle that tells you how you will go to a college and get a job for life without having ever been college.

Shockingly similar story here: Software job -> pissed at job -> hated job/burnout -> quit considering career switch-> did a lil coding for myself and reignited my passion for coding -> many months off -> tried to find a new swe job as the market turned sour -> let me innnn -> new job -> somehow I'm by far the best software engineer I've ever been. Life's a funny fucking thing. Lesson learned: I love building things and I won't let a company/job make me forget that source of joy again.

I'm at the "quit (well, laid off, but quitting has been on my mind) and considering a career switch" step, but the coding/creating itch has been coming up again.
Though I did one of those pre-interview round tasks recently for a company and absolutely botched it. The moment I started working on it is the moment my burnout kicked in almost instantly, which is a shame because I feel like I missed a possible good chance.
Oh well, it is what it is.

It's not the software or coding that wears me down; it's scrum, corporate bureaucracy and rigidity.

To add on the last part of the video with personal feelings. I really love computer science, but it's not the only thing I love. When I'm forced to be engaged with only one love for a large portion of time, every week, for the rest of my life, I'm undoubtedly going to get burned out with it. All I can think about is the time lost to enjoy other loves.
I'm not saying I hate working either. I just hate how MUCH I have to work.

I am so glad that I found your channel. I completely agree with everything you said, especially the part where you said code being as an intersection point between arts and technology. I am somehow going through this same phase after 6 years in software engineering. I just quit my job and thinking of taking a break. I most probably won't switch to any other field, because I love coding and building things. Lets see how life takes over from this point. I am hoping for the best 🤞🏽

I'm gonna be honest, my jaw dropped when you said "we" work on our task like big project that we used to do in college, I thought I'm the only one doing that. Your goal to help people in tech felt less lonely does paid off.

Bro the segment at 7:09 describes me to a T.
I don't care about the corporate ratrace, I wanna do my tasks, get paid, go home. I didn't start tech to deal with people, I started it to deal with computers and apps.
Edit: Also, on your comment about art, if you really like music, I suggest finding a DAW you might like and starting to play around, the process (at least to me) is fairly similar to coding, while being different enough that it doesn't build on the burnout.

I like how you see software development in an artistic way. I myself am an artist, going into tech, and I couldn’t agree more! I like more back-end, and I am a composer. To me, the process of building feels very similar somehow. The use of another language that translates into something that people “experience” is kind of amazing. Good video. I think you are on the right track. Sometimes a set back is nothing more than an opportunity to reassess our priorities and learn from our mistakes. It seems to me that you were in the wrong job, not the wrong industry. Changing your work environment and goals might be all you needed. Cheers!

Your point on taking up coding as an intersection between art and coding hit home After switching careers to get into the gaming industry, I knew I wanted to be a game designer but I heard the market was too saturated with designers, so I instead picked up coding instead in hopes of building my own games that way and still being able to do design. I've been doing QA for about 5 1/2 years now, but in my free time I really enjoy building games for fun!

Sometimes you need a break. I got fired from a software job, I hated the job and felt useless. I took a couple of years out doing odd jobs and studying random things. I eventually got back and now I'm a Principal Engineer.

I think fundamentally the problem is - software is not fun generally and frankly is not meant to be fun.
It's a tool to make a living (again, for most people).
What is fun for sure is manifesting your own idea that improves your life in some way.
But even my favorite video game as a kid got boring after 5 hours straight.
Work sucks, and having to commit the best 40 hours of sunlight to it per week is soul crushing.
Not to mention being forced to please a mf boss who you hate (in many ways to me this is worse than working 40 hrs/week per se)
The only way around it is to find alternative flows of income and/or simplify one's life so full time income is not necessary.
I can it feel in my bones, my biggest regret in old age will be to have not had many beautiful experiences with loved ones, to have not seen much or experienced much of the world when I had vigor, all because I stressed myself out into slaving most of it away to please bosses, shareholders and the tax man.
I truly believe that, in general, the efforts to get people to view work differently or to 'hack' things like changing one's environment are intended to keep the worker bees humming and the elites replete with children's blood.
You get shamed to death for not slaving your life away.

In my opinion, you don't like coding per say, you like build things with you intellect, logic, and/or or hands. I would create your own business that allows you to fulfill these basic human needs. We were made in God's image, this give us the ability to create.

Bubble finally burst. We had 1 million jobs in demand for the next ten years, and in return. 5 million people are trying to get those 1 million jobs.
This career feild will turn into finance/aw where you have to be the top of the top of your class and only get through the door with connections and prestige. You guys did that to yourself though, no reason to blatantly brag and tell everyone how to be successful
