Not sure which is more impressive... Tango's prediction of Martyn's betrayal or Solidarity's Hunger Games prediction of the winner.
It's the difference between a keen observer and a fortune teller. The fortune teller may not always be correct, but is more impactful... no matter if that impact is positive or not. The observer makes predictions based on fact, so their foresight is more consistent. They are equally impressive, if you don't believe in coincidence.

@@SierraNight Some people on Scott's video were even saying Scott let his ally win again because he didn't try to escape the lava bucket fast enough. Apparently not remembering how fast lava kills an un-armored player and that he wouldn't have had time to escape, or the fact that he wasn't expecting a lava bucket from behind and thus wasn't prepared to run.

Martyn's chaotic and villainous win really contrasted Double Life's ending with Scott and Pearl's friendship.
Look at how the last three seasons ended and then look at this one.
Grian and Scar did a fair 1v1, no armor, no weapons.
Scott, Martyn, Pearl and Ren did a fair fight. They used weapons and armor but it was fair.
Pearl finished off Cleo and Martyn, then Scott let Pearl win because she deserved it.
And now Martyn joined in this season and decided to BACKSTAB EVERYONE.
YESSSS, this ending was a long time coming. It gets old when they do the chivalrous thing every season.

There have only been four Life series?! I thought there was more! I might go back and watch all of the others while we wait for season/series 5! I only watched a few videos before this season/series and after this I regret not watching more because this was a heck of a ride!!!

As much as I would have loved to see our first 2-time champion, this was a win long coming. A bit brutal and underhanded, but I've noticed that's been emblematic of this run. He saw every chance he could and he took it. I had a feeling this would happen after the Scar kill and his sudden alliance with TIES.
2 podiums, and now a win in just the last three series. If there's a season 5, he's going to be a huge force to be reckoned with.

When Grian killed scar, he regretted it.
When Scott won, he felt bad about pearl.
When pearl won, she felt bad about Scott.
But when martyn won

honestly I remember on grian's vid I specificacally wondered if the drowned would drop a shell, and then i saw scar pick it up... did not expect any lore to come out of that interaction but was so psyched when it did!

This was amazing. You, sir, have an excellent sense of story and when to seize the moment. And even though it seems to have been an in-the-moment decision, now that I've watched this through a few times, I can absolutely see how that final betrayal moment was set up. Maybe that was in the editing more so than in the playing, but either way, it works so very well. I really, really love the pulsating vision effect when the rage (or the watchers?) start to take over. And the ending is mind-blowing. It hints at so much and raises soooooo many more questions.
Martyn's going to remember this season in the next one isn't he!! I assume that the fragment being protected means that his memories of this won't fall apart because he won. But I wonder who does that 🤔 did the watchers or the listeners protect him...
Edit: I guess it did say they were the listeners oopise! I also noticed the little detail of his scarf being the red winter flag, I love that!!

As someone who just watched Martyn's lore stream that came out today, it seems like they all have their memories of the past seasons, but they don't hold their negative emotions (betrayal, anger, etc) from last seasons because the Watchers feed on those. However sometimes a bit of them slip through the cracks because the season started too soon, or the Watchers missed a little bit. It's confirmed Canon now that Pearl was replaced with Lizzie for an episode (by the Listeners) because her soul wasn't given enough time to recover, due to the amt of trauma the ending of DL had for her. (She asked Martyn to give Tilly back to her, he gave her Tillys "ashes" and she reacted very emotionally). And then Tangos Rage is confirmed Canon as well, because the Watchers sometimes accidentally let a few things slip past them.
Gotta say, that countdown with everyone's voices was a FANTASTIC touch and I got the goosebumps! Well done Martyn villain arc!

I didn't expect to laugh even harder but that anticlimactic end was just something else.
It was always shaping up to be somewhat contrived, personally I'm glad Martyn just shut it down at the end lol, no more mercy in the life series from now on

What a sharp contrast from Pearl's win last season.
People on Scott's video were saying he let Martyn win and thus forfeited a second/third win (third overall, second that he forfeited). I don't think that's true, especially seeing it from this side--he really didn't have a chance to get away. I agree Scott is good at the game, but not good enough to escape a lava bucket and diamond sword combo without armor. Especially with the element of surprise added in.
I never really understood how scary kill-mode Pearl is, OMG. Her vid makes this interchange sound so friendly
Watching both Scott's and Martin's POV made this season even better.
This series was amazing! I loved the time aspect allowing people to get more time
I love the ending. 2/3 of the endings in the life series before ended in a relatively calm way (double life and 3rd life) so having an ending where betrayal took place and it was simply every man for himself, with martyn just going crazy is exactly how i imagined the series to end, glad it finally happened. Well done martyn!
I mean I wouldn't call DoubleLife's ending calm... with Pearl slaughtering 4 people and then Scott blowing himself up... the series ended in bloodshed and a bang, about as good of an ending as you can expect
genuinely one of the best endings to a life series thus far. sure the others are poetic and full of regret but there's something so satisfying of being able to go fully feral at the end. gods the beauty of the "THIS IS A DEATH GAME" followed by the best betrayal ever

Came here from Tumblr because I heard you were getting a lot of hate for the betrayal, I'm really sorry to hear that because it's completely unjustified and personally I really liked it. (and it even tied into the ending of 3rd life!) Also a lot more interesting than a fist fight between the final three :)

@@ashleytailor4285 its from an old series grian did (forgot the name) and in that they had “gods” called watchers. In the last episode of grians series he had become a watcher when he left. There are also these other (i think) gods/demigods that are called listeners and they dont really like the watchers. From the stuff martyn has posted im gonna guess that he has spoken to watchers before but is a listener or atleast somewhat connected to them.

@@ashleytailor4285 it's mostly fan and martyn made now, its like a super big headcannon coming from Evo SMP and it's lore, where there were watchers controlling and 'watching' everyone. As grian went on to hermitcraft and wanted to leave Evo they made a little lore bit where they said he was a watcher and stuff. Tumblr and the fandom went crazy and wrote fanfics and made the watchers a bit scarier every time (spoiler: it snowballed, they're big scary now). Martyn saw this and made a bit with the trafficlight series where he makes little lore bits about it every season and Tumblr freaks out and stuff. In last life he said grian was a watcher "and you're more of... A listener"
This ending is also tied with the watchers and it is now my time to go to tumblr and read all of the theories.
Also, martyn is really underrated when it comes to that, as everyone is making grian watcher fan fictions while MARTYN IS RIGHT THERE LISTENER LORE GREEN INSTEAD OF PURPLE

This lore goes back to 3rd Life, or if you're being technical, all the way back to the Evo SMP days and the start of the Watchers and Listeners. Martyn gave a quick breakdown on it in the Life Series iceberg video on his shorts channel, and he has a longer breakdown of the 3L and LaL lore prior to this season if you look up "inthelittlewood shadow lore"

This was INSANE!! I've been rooting for Mean Gills the whole time and at the end I really really wanted Scott to win but the Impulse and Martyn needed a win as well. The ending was so satisfying with Martyn going MAD and destroying the others. Thank you for another great series!
After dwelling on the ending finale for a while, I honestly think it was the best, most interesting possible ending and way for this to go.
It was a ballsy as hell choice but it made for SUCH a fun ending and for something unexpected, narrative wise and just generally.
I’m glad we didn’t get a repeat situation of past series, like the planned fist fight. It keeps things spicy to change up how the “final fight” would go, and augh I’m just thinking so hard about it and it’s difficult to put into words.
Taking it into your own hands led to an interesting ending and it makes me think further about your character in the life series!! The themes of loyalty and lack there of, the rage, the mania, GAH, all so wonderful.
Great job on the ending and on your efforts throughout this season in general, and thanks for the wonderful lore :D
I think Impulse coming out on top in a 2v1 for team TIES would've been great, of course that's asking a lot but still with the inherited will from Skizz's final moments it would've been an amazing ending

I could be my pedantic self and count this as an ''unfair'' win to a series just like I did with Last Life back then, but the amount of passion and effort you put into the editing and storytelling on your episodes just makes me respect you like none other, Martyn.

Well, I saw this ending from impulse's point of view, so I had to come across and see Martyn's, and damn, I've subscribed after that, cause what a cool ending! I was not expecting the backstab, and it made for a very impressive and fitting finale.
Not sure if I liked the way on your way of winning but much congrats! It's amazing how there hasn't been a two time winner in Life Series and I hope it keeps it that way naturally.

Intesting question about limited life lore, When people get slain, they loose 1h, but the person who killed them gets 1/2h, where does the other half go? I would be happy to hear your theories

I remember watching 3rd Life and thinking it was super dramatic and like cool. I’m a bit older now, and watching LL and DL I felt like there was something missing. There wasn’t the same dramatic flair that I remember from 3L. (When I rewatch 3L, it’s not there either.) I still think all the series are awesome, including LiL, just lacking the flair I felt when I first watched 3L.
But this video is so well edited, and brings out each moment and doesn’t brush off each individual fight. It gives emphasis to the important fights, and brings out certain moments that I hadn’t noticed in other people’s episodes. The music adds so much, and I don’t know how to explain it, but it brought back some of that first-time 3rd Life for me.
Your/whoever edits your videos’ editing is amazing. Thank you for giving me back a small piece of my childhood :)

After getting around the Watchers lore, and learning that you've been pulling some strings all along, and a couple more videos on the topic in the last couple of days, I couldn't just sit around and came out here again to see _your_ finale, because I read on twt that yours was going to be around 35mins and went "Eh, that sounds like a long video, and lots of the people on the traffic fandom are rooting for him... I should definitely give it a go".
Not disappointed at all! The Watcher and Listeners lore got me good, love the animation (which I believe is a throwback? You've made it in a previous Life series too! I just saw that clip today!) and piqued my interest so much * ^ *

I love the ending! It really holds true to the over-all idea of these "death games" and all the lore and effort you put into making your episodes is amazing. I love the energy and chaos that you bring to the series, as well as all of the delicious lore. I can't wait to see where the story will go from here!

The people who dislike it don't seem to understand the fact that this is a game and everyone's friends with each other. There aren't any hard feelings, betrayal is literally part of the game.
I wouldn't have been upset at a fair fight at the end, but this was SO. MUCH. BETTER. You deserve that win!

TLDR the watchers began on Grian's channel as a metaphor for the audience and Martyn has kind of adapted them into these all-powerful all-knowing entities who speak in creepy riddles and are responsible for the life games

Slightly late comment but I absolutely LOVED how this ended!!! The countdown with the voices was so cool and the betrayal kill was so fitting after everything that had happened this episode!! I had watched Impulse's POV before this one, and you have no idea how nervous I got seeing you still fully geared while the other two had taken their armor off already. It was such a small moment before the betrayal kills but it was SO GOOD from the others' perspectives. It's like you could feel it in the air that something was not quite right.
Even before all of that, the second you laid eyes on Impulse and Scott in the distance. That part was SO COOL. The encroaching darkness and the drumbeat, you could practically feel the tension in the air as Impulse stared down almost certain death. What a wild series from start to finish! From your episode one boogey kill to here, an absolute journey was had

I LOVE that you betrayed them at the end!! It really shows that it's a last one standing, no rules, game. Also, the first season ended with a punching duel, second season was a battle royal, third season was a sacrifice, now fourth season is a betrayal. Gotta complete the set! :D
