  • Bernie and I unbox and build our first 24" BMX bike, the Monza BMX in chrome with Skyway Mag wheels! It's our first 24 and Bernie and I couldn't wait to put this together and see how it compares to the 26" Monza. We were pleasantly surprised at just how good the sizing was! Many thanks to Monza for sending us this bike to try out.

    Guys you sold me on it. I was looking at other bikes, but the retro look of this brings me back to my youth. Just ordered one this morning. After years of road riding, and mountain biking I so looking forward to getting back on a BMX bike again. Thanks for the great content from another old fart.

    Just turned 60 here in SoCal grew up on pre BMX and went to BMX later. Been having flashbacks to those days and considering a BMX bike to go with my OG diamond back MB and Kestrel road bike. Thanks for the video it gave me good vibes having been stationed at KBay aways back. Thanks again

    I don't mind The Gooseneck being Gold color.And or the Seat post clamp being Gold.and or even Sprocket or The Cranks being Gold.But that's it.I normally prefer The Bike to be Fully Chrome.Or The Frame to be painted and The Handle Bars to be Chrome.But This particular build on this Brand is still awesome.It's definitely an 80's vibe.Nice Job Guy's 😎👍🏾enjoyed The Conversation.

    For the pedals u could have saved the reflector, smoked them black with vinyl film. Then if you wanna get fancy you can add a led light strip behind the reflector . It would have to be battery powered obviously.

    Perfect size for Bernie! I think the reason it feels bigger is that it comes with full rise bars, most Cruisers come with 6" rise bars. The 1st thing I would upgrade would be the grips. Also, the "boot" on the V-brakes goes on the end of the noodle, it's to keep the dirt out of the cable. Another great video guys! Mahalo for sharing! Aloha!

    Moto Mags were the sh_t back in the day...... if your goal was to have a 45 pound bike. Those things were like manhole covers. The three best thing about Moto Mags were the stock coaster brakes, the incredible amount of extra weight you were privileged to drag around, and of course there was the added benefit that they came with pre pitted aluminum fresh out of the box.

    For the front brake, I don't think you would need to swap the spacers because it's not a v-brake that's bowed out. People usually swap the spacers just to get less bowing from v-brakes. For the v-brake sticking on one side, first take the brake off all the way and when you put each arm onto the post, make sure it slides on easily. If not, use sandpaper, clean, and try again. Once they slide on easily, take them off again and use grease on both posts. Then install them and bolt them down, adjust the cable, etc. Then, pull the brake lever tight and hard about 50 times. This will set the brakes and stretch the cable a little. Then you can start working with the fine adjust screws. They work in the opposite you would think. If you screw one side in, it will pull the arm outward. Adjust them a TINY bit at a time until you get it perfect. Squeeze the brake lever tight again another 20+ times. One more fine-tune if needed and you're done!

    • @cruisinginthe808
      @cruisinginthe808  Год назад +1

      Thanks once again for dropping that bike shop knowledge for all of us to learn from! Had no idea you had to squeeze that lever so many times, but it does make sense! Appreciate you homie!

      @@cruisinginthe808 also to adjust front brakes (caliper style) you just use thin cone wrench on the flats on the front side of fork, in between caliper. Rotate the entire assembly to achieve desired results. It's nice they include the front brakes now. The mx2 levers have 2 cable positions, one for v brakes, one for caliper style. That black part in the lever just holds cable in the correct hole. Those levers allow you to have matching lever set on 2 different types of brakes

    Note: Non-metal MAG Wheels, please use caution....Since it's NOT metal, the sidewalls that hold the bead of the tire cannot sustain suitable tire pressure for applied racing applications...making jumps difficult for riders weighing over 155 pounds. The soft sidewall of the rim would release the bead on the tire....

    Hey guys I hope your both well, I was just wondering what the chrome is like, and then you answered it. Are you sure that the stem is not polished alloy. In the 1980’s I can’t remember why I did it, but I had a gold anodised SR Sakae Stem and I took to Metal Work class at school and sanded down with a low grit emery cloth and buffed it with a wire wheel and it came up excellent, unbelievable just like chrome.
    My friend use to do it by hand to his Araya Rims that were anodised, because the brake pads would make it look messy and uneven when it wore of, and again it came up excellent polished side walls and coloured rims…….😳

      On the Monza owners Facebook group, which I encourage you to join, even if you donʻt have a bike yet, Iʻve seen people post that they are over 6 feet tall and love the 24". Some of these tall guys swear by it. Itʻs hard for me to say itʻll fit you because I donʻt want you to buy one and then find out you donʻt like the small size. If you can find a 24 and a 26 to ride, that would be my suggestion. That way you can test it out to see. Some guys like the small, nimbleness of the 24" but others like the bigger 26" or 29". Try and check out the Facebook group though and see what others are saying. I like the Monzas and I think you will too if you can find the size for you. Thanks for the comment and good luck! 🤙🏻

      Are you talking about your bike? Is this your own Monza? If so, try and loosen that top bolt going down into the stem, then loosen the two side bolts below that that clamp the stem to the fork. Line up the bars with the tire, then tighten those two side bolts first, and then the top bolt. Not sure if this helps or not but I hope you can get that tightened!

      A friend of ours just picked up an old Kuwahara Laserlite that was in someone's garage here locally. We were trying to figure out if this was mine that my mom sold to some kid back when I was in college but it wasn't. It would be really cool to build up a Kuwahara! Thanks for that suggestion and thanks for watching!

    Wonder what kind of weight limit these bikes have?

    • @cruisinginthe808
      @cruisinginthe808  8 месяцев назад

      I checked with Monza and they said 242 lbs would be the max weight for their bikes. I’m sure it could handle more but for warranty purposes, I think that’s why they went with that number.

    • @cruisinginthe808
      @cruisinginthe808  5 месяцев назад +1

      Iʻm 5ʻ9" and Bernie is 5ʻ4" so for us, the 24 is ok. But the top tube on the 24 and 26 are pretty much the same length so I know of guys your height who swear by the 24. Some still ride the 20! If you can get a chance to ride a 24 to see, that would be my suggestion. It doesnʻt have to be the Monza, but something with a 22" top tube like what the Monza has. Then you can see if that size is ok for you. Wish I could help you more! Good luck! 🤙🏻

    • @cruisinginthe808
      @cruisinginthe808  Год назад

      I’m 5’9” tall (or short!)! 😂 It’s all a matter of preference and riding style. A lot of guys over 6’ swear by the 24 because they want a nimble, agile bike like their 20 was back in the day. But others just want to cruise with it and so a bigger frame is better for that kind of riding. Have you seen Monza’s 26? Thanks for watching and I hope this helps!!

    Make sure your brakes are working GOOD and the brakes and rim are DRY before doing wheelies!!

      It's my first time using rims like the Tuff Wheels and the braking is.......interesting. Kinda honks a little like a duck and vibrates a lot. Is that how they are? We put on the Skyway brake pads too.

    • @TuesdaysTurn
      @TuesdaysTurn Год назад

      @@cruisinginthe808 Should be minimal vibration, but I guess that depends on the pads and how fast you're going. But yes, clear pads work best on mags, and clear pads are notoriously loud. Make sure they're toed well, and break them in, 'bed' or 'prime' them by short strong brakes like 30 times or more, and then recheck to make sure the pad is still toed and in the right place. Good luck!
