  • An excerpt of Andy Warhol's 1967 film of the band playing to a packed house at The Boston Tea Party, the infamous former venue at 53 Berkeley St, Boston, MA.
The original film's audio volume fluctuates badly (possibly due to a camera/microphone issue, or the editing hack-job done on the film that resulted in the length of this song being cut down to under 1 minute), so I have stabilised the audio level in this edit, so that the song can be heard better.
Despite the poor audio quality, you can just about make out Reed singing "I got a fever, in my pocket, yeah, down to my shoes, hey babe I; I guess I'm falling in love. I got a hand calling forty-five times to ya, on the phone..." - lyrics which appear to be unique to this performance, when compared to all other existing recordings of the song.
Video & audio edited by Cam Forrester.

Thank you for this. I wonder how much material both audio and visual is still unreleased in both Reed’s and Cale’s archives. The Gymnasium show is the only gig so far to show up with good sound from the Cale era.

Indeed, I would probably cry if the Cleveland 'UpBeat' TV show footage ever surfaced...it's presumed to have been either taped over, or stolen...so who knows.
And yes, the Gymnasium tapes are gold. One of my upcoming cover/tutorial videos is based on the performance of this song from those shows - so keep an eye on the channel over the next few weeks! 😉

@@CAMFORRESTER they played several shows that weekend at the Gym, wonder if more of them were recorded?

@@nullvoid244 It's believed by many that John Cale has another tape from those shows separate to the one that's been officially released, which is where the alternate bootleg version of GIFIL is taken from...

My friend has an incredible live version of Falling in Love with the Falling Spikes on record. We make music together so the next time he’s around, I’ll rip it to an audio file put it on RUclips at some point - it should be out there!❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻

Do you have any good VU biography to recommend?

The recent Todd Haynes documentary about the band is good, but only available via Apple TV. Alternatively there is my Documentary on Maureen Tucker which covers the band's history from her point of view: ruclips.net/video/26Y-qPglJQ0/видео.html
Or there is also the 1986 'South Bank Show' documentary: ruclips.net/video/B1sbg_C-72c/видео.html
Or the 2007 'Under Review' documentary: ruclips.net/video/onTfEZAMZHI/видео.html
      Enjoy!

@@CAMFORRESTER Oh yeah the Haynes documentary is pretty good. Yours is really good. I was trying to talk about book biographies.

@@mudman3371 Thanks! Oh I beg your pardon... 'Up-tight: The Velvet Underground Story' by Gerard Malanga and Victor Bockris is very good, as is 'White Light/White Heat: The Velvet Underground Day-by-day' by Richie Unterberger

Joe Harvard’s, 33 1/3 series book about the first album is very good.

@@CAMFORRESTER The Todd Haynes doc is great BUT it's very lacking in content. Half the doc is about Warhol and Doug Yule is pretty much a side note that barely gets mentioned. A lot was left to be desired for hardcore fans. However newbies will love it.
