The film is a film of genius. Warhol's powerful artistic instincts on vie at maximum level. Of course, a stunning recording of the VU at the peak of their underground fame..
So wonderful to hear Mo's drums thumping as loud as they actually did. Usually they'd get mixed way down in studio recordings -- almost to nothing in some cases. I'll never understand why.
I love to see anything filmed by Danny Williams. This is the definitive live version of White Light/White Hear. Cale' bass and the double guitar attack with Mo producing the eternal beat. Just incredible. Thanks
@@steveshattah If this is the Boston Tea Party, then it is Cale's last appearance with the band. If it is Doug, I'm amazed at how similar his playing is to John's.
Cale left in September'68. This is from December '68. Check out the Boston tea party show from January 1969 it's as good as this one but sounds a little better. Check out the guitar amp tape from Boston tea party March 15th 1969 but make sure you find the good sounding one and not the crap sounding one.
Great, great version.Been listening to them constantly since 1980 never ever get bored. This is much closer to the sound of the Cale era than other recordings with D Yule. Has anything ever rocked this good bar Little Richard?
meters pinned to the red! i think that is Yule tho - if you listen to this 1969 version, sounds like the same walking bass ruclips.net/video/hU8mwe73nh4/видео.html
@@eddietasker9110 Point taken, both totally rocking. In Bo's case a Man from the Future that built a drum monitor in the back of his amp and installed vibrato and distortion inside his self-built guitars before we even got to the 60's.
I don't think today's hipster kids realize; reality (ie. everyday life) was actually in black & white in 1966. At least in NY; California went full color sometime in '65...
John Cales playing bass on it but shows him playing Viola, actually this sounds more like the Doug Yule years but I could be wrong. But feels like Andy Warhol filming but not sure if editing was done much later. Confusing for sure.
i think cale's last gig with the band was sept 1968 - this post says the concert recording was in december of that year, so i imagine it's yule on bass. the video collage predates this recording, and warhol and the group had parted ways shortly before cale was booted.
This isn't 1968, and they certainly aren't performing WL/WH in this footage. This is why the recent documentary was disappointing, so little footage of the band playing.
That whole album is amazing. Harrowing and dark and yet you feel uplifted when it ends.
Just like Sister Ray said
Because it ends?
What a nice young clean-cut boy, Lou Reed.

Mo has the most unique but recognisable sound, my favourite drummer from that era.
If you haven't seen it already, this explains: ruclips.net/video/26Y-qPglJQ0/видео.html
@@cliffordsaffer1413 yeah, in short she said her drumming i supposed to be the backbone of the track something steady for lou and cale to get back to
Mo never got the credit due. For blazing a Rock'n'Roll trail. For blazing for young musicians, men & Women alike. A true legend.
Wow, a priceless historical document and a perfect window into the Warhol/Velvets scene.
The video is from early 66 the music is from late 68 long after John cale has left the band.
U can tell by the softness
Its November 1965, there is a video that shows parts of this concert at the factory, no ofense.
@@maxgorsic9191 It's not from 68, sorry should have stated around early 66 for any smartness looking in.,the point being its not 1968.
John Cale left in 68 after the release of the album.
Discovering and listening to VU has changed my life. Thank God for music!
omggg i thought it's just a live performance video but it's actually 5 minutes of pure joy, well done😳👏👏👏
Fantastic,Sterling’s guitar tone is amazing!

Doug Yule on bass. Cale was already gone.

Wagner-Hunter did a much better job than Reed-Morrison.
how does this not have more views? perfectly captures the way TVU makes you feel :)
literally this is so good
You're not wrong, I bought a bootleg 12" of bosten tea party gig in the 80's played so fast could listen to it
Cause it's 50 years ago.
yeah VU meters pinned in the red. Is it Cale on bass or doug yule? oh never mind, i just figured it out
So Raw
What a Great musical time capsule
Never being in on the NYC downtown scene in 1968 this seems extraordinary for it's time.
RIP Edie Sedgwick. She is wearing the earrings.
This is the best version-even better than studio recording
Check out 'The Complete Matrix Recordings'.
VU in SF in '69.
This is better than excellent.
Amazing, wish there was a video like this of Sister Ray
The heaviest band at the time. Also, groundbreaking. In every way.
Correct. The rest of the world is still catching up.
Thank you for posting!
Perfect. Great film great music
The best darn band ever.
Amazing ✊
This is so good... another Days of the New masterpiece
That was great.
Timeless
Camels soooooup on amphetamines 💯🎸💯
Groovy
OMG this is historic!
Seminal scary stuff!
pure aesthetic
What a wild video. Wish I were there. Kudos to you.

This is a great version
God bless America. !!

All the Super Stars Just Great! Miss Andy!
They were like a 21st century indie band!
Like they dropped out of another universe
Just as good live as the albums
♥️👏♥️

lack of sterling footage is what gets me
Edie looks pretty amped on that bubble gum.
So much better than the shit that poses as music these days.
perfect timing too! Jonathan RIchman had to be at this show, we might not even have the Modern Lovers without this show
Watch that speed freak...
There is actually only about a 1:40 of very cut film of Lou Reed at the end of this video.
cale looks like he just stepped out of a medieval fresco LOL

Good stuff
Is that Edie Sedgwick (sp?) chewing gum in slo-mo round 0:45-1:00 or just some random audience member not affiliated with VU or Andy's Factory?
That’s her!
@@hobochangba7638 what a cutie 😍
Lous vocals are turned down a lot, but besides that, great recording and love how loud Moes drums are.
Never can get enough of Mo
Lou Reed looking disturbingly like Robbie Williams! 😄
P pop pop
who dat at the end of the film?
This is rapidly moving from one of my least favorite to absolute favorite VU tunes.
How did it energetic that low, lol
the film is not from 1968
Malanga was in it, you reckon more factory, could be right

I was just questioning that! This has to be earlier since Edie Sedgwick was there and she had a fallout with Andy after 1966 I believe.
There's a violin on this track?
John cale on bass?
No this is post John, early Doug Yule period.
@@timneave3240 ah ok cheers
I thought it was surely him on backing vocals, Doug Yule is a hell of an multi instrumentist as well
There's not a single frame of them here from the Tea Party, nor of them playing "White Light/White Heat." Trump sez, "Fake news -- two thumbs up!"
Meget inspireret af Stones
The velvets have only love songs or love songs about drugs
Beats MTV
Good ol' psichotic hedonism
4:40 - who the fk is this?
Heroin
Great music and band..HATE the video!
This sucks.
Crank!
