Thank you for all the work you put into making this video! That's a lot of string changes and editing! I really like that you displayed the note with the brand, size, and string information for the duration of each sound sample. It really helps since I'm often listening but doing another task and only looking up sometimes. It really helps to have your videos to watch during this strange and stressful time. I appreciate all the work each of you does to make it happen, and the efforts you're taking to stay healthy to keep supplying our ukulele needs. Much love to you all. Stay safe and take care :)

Love these videos! I can only aspire to someday own one of these great instruments that you demo. In the meantime, I've been blessed with some fabulous sounding (if not humble) instruments to grow into. You guys spur me on to learn more and play more knowing that I'll earn the right some day to own and actually do one of them justice! In trying times with lockdown inevitable, and physical ailments snapping at my heels, I've found endless peace and inspiration in your passion for music, art, fine instruments and incredible players. You help bring new life and voice to ancient trees who's lifetimes of struggling and growing strong on beautiful hillsides and mountains, breathing the wind, sun and rain, gives their wood the complexity we cherish. Then, in harvesting and carving and making beautiful instruments, you imbue them with new life and release their stories through our music. The very living breath and soul of Hawaii and Aloha is present in what you do. I take infinite pleasure in this cycle of love and expression. Thank you so much for the gifts you bring!

Beautiful sentiments here, Gary. One thought for you: If you're playing an instrument and enjoying it, then you've" earned it." If you play discordantly, but you play it every day and that playing brings you some peace and joy, you've earned your Ko'aloha tenor. If, alternately, you're a beautiful player who never plays, well then you no longer have the right (in the best sense, not the legal) to own that instrument. Beautiful instruments deserve to be played, but not necessarily beautifully. Aloha mon ami.

Please send my regards to Joel. Great work on these strings! Big thank you! Will definitely order more once this COVID-19 issue goes away.

I must say the Aquila Super Nylguts definitely has it’s characteristic “boomy” sound. Whilst the Worth Browns added a wider, warmer, mellow sound. Then the Uke Logic ones had without a doubt the most crisp and clarity. Finally the Worth Clear’s were a bit of Brown and Logic. I think it’ll all come down to your preference and the soundboard of your uke. These will all certainly have different effects on a different tonewood and bracing system. So if you feel that you need more punch or boom, Aquila is your best bet. If you need more warmth because your uke’s clarity and punch is already there, Browns. If you need to emphasize your notes and you already have a pretty Woody sound, Uke Logic is your bet. If you need more balance between the emphasis of your notes and a warmer sound... Clears are the ones the sound sample suggests. Keep up the great work you guys! Love everything.

I appreciate that you shared the theme that your own ears and your own playing style and the instrument's spirit are all dynamic variables. There are a lot of right answers. That's great! Mahalo!
And I was amazed that the concerts and sopranos sound so great. Especially the Kanile'a concert. Never saw that coming!

I would love to have a demonstration of uke logic high tension vs soft tension strings. Thanks.

    • @Swimmer808HI
      @Swimmer808HI 4 года назад +2

juddee maxwell soft tension is softer, easier on fingers, can be flimsy/buzzes if the action is too low on your uke. High tension feels good but can be a little tight, louder tone, more sustain. Really depends what your style of playing is and if you do more finger style (soft tension) or strumming based (hard). Hope this helps, soft/hard tension strings are extremely subject to one's playing style, type of uke they play, and the action of that uke.

I am loving Noel's low tension strings on my K1 but I want to try the high tension ones I have ordered them a couple of weeks ago, not sure wether they will get here or not with all that is going on. It took two sets sent to get one set of low tension strings all the way to Plymouth in uk lol. They are the best strings I have tried so far on my Uke. Her indoors gives me some stick for trying so many types of strings but until i have tried them all i wont know will I. I do love the sparkle with these strings. Thanks for the awesome podcasts please keep them coming stay safe. Ps has Kalei done his flies up lol.

Aquila Super Nylgut on Kanilea Tenor it's
not so open and clarity is weak but mids is amazing sweetness.
Koaloha Concert Worth Clear is the best (stock).

Jan Nyan, I too love and use the Worth Browns but I’ve added the Pepe Romero low G. It is a low squeak string and it doesn’t overpower the Worth Strings. Enjoy your strings!

Mahalo nui you guys! So informative! I couldn’t help but notice all the Low G comparisons were done only on the KoAloha ... does that mean you recommend the KoAloha for Low G and not high g? Or you don’t recommend the Kanile’a for Low G? Thanks. I know it’s so time consuming to do all the comparisons but this just stuck out for me. Mahalo!

Corey - which strings did you like on the KoAloha Concert? Just curious, I have pretty decent speakers, but what comes through watching a video is different from what a player hears in the room.

This video stands as a remarkable testament to both the players and all of the amazing instruments they played. It's truly a joy to watch. That said, I'm hoping you will consider a follow up video. In it, perhaps you can reach some (more or less) objective conclusions about various strings so that we players are then liberated to make subjective decisions based on our preferences on which strings to purchase .
I suspect it's both inaccurate and fruitless simply to state that "it's all subjective." I think, that's it's objectively true that , e.g., some strings add warmth/bass to the overall tone while others add brightness/treble. Couldn't you start there and proceed to develop a few other objective categories? That way, we're informed without being, well, subject merely to the (subjective) opinions of your musicians. Such a video would be immensely helpful to those of us who need to travel hundreds to miles simply to visit a genuine ukulele shop. Finally, the video could wrap up with the musicians offering their opinions on what strings they love and why. I certainly value the opinions of great players, especially those whose tone I seek (unsuccessfully to be sure!) to emulate. E.G, something like " I generally prefer a warmer set of strings on a soprano to reduce any brittle sound."
That kind of video, ones that provide both objective facts ("string X is thicker than string Y") as well as expert opinion is the video I expected this one to be. Hopefully these comments provide food for thought, and perhaps the impetus to add a new shoot. In any event peace to you all, and thanks for the great work.
