It's nice that the machine is working again. However, it now has a different serial number or no serial number and the Windows key in the BIOS has been lost. With this BIOS it is easy to fix: Open the file in the Hex Editor, search for "LENV" and copy everything from the offset 75C000 to 75D250 into the working BIOS.

I don't know this model, but some models store the serial number, windows key, bios password, all in EC memory. If you can trick the EC to be dumped via JTAG or LPC to get a clean unencrypted image, and usually using an ARCompact disanssembler, you will find very interesting stuff in there. And yes, no need to insult people.

Its very common nowdays that the critical BIOS update is implemented by a Windows Update mechanism. Most of people still don't know that You have to update the BIOS to patch low level, critical security issue.

It is bad that Windows has started doing BIOS updates via it's Windows Updates. There has to be a way to disable this as it would eliminate these new software issues.

Because UEFI BIOS Firmware is apart from Windows Driver, u cant disable or untick this driver unless u disable Windows Update permanently or u can use 3-rd apps like WUMT

It's a bit off topic "Can un update kill your laptop", but can a simple RAM memory upgrade kill it to? Well. HP series 15 AMD Ryzen laptop: operation-new RAM module(unpack) upgrade, antistatic gloves on hands, fue screws etc. Turn on the laptop, no boot, just codes-error, after error. From M.2 SSD to "broken battery", below everything LT works slowly but good works. BIOS only sees the new module. Refreshing the BIOS because of the battery. I checked the SSD-dye.SSD and new OS installation are not a problem, but the clone battery-expensive lottery. There was no other. Updated BIOS, new SSD, win install. Battery back OK as before. But I still don't know what happened with the simple RAM upgrade(must takeoff cower)procedure. All the best Mr. Sorin

When flashing the bios in this manner, will the machine now have a different (or no) serial number, GUID, etc? (i.e. will it have the serial number of the laptop that the bios was dumped from, or possibly no serial number (and GUID, etc) if it was extracted from a BIOS update file??? Maybe this doesn't matter much?

Checking out that Revelprog there. Curious what the adapter clamp is called you use to clamp onto the bios chip and how the Revelprog compares to the MiniPro or newer TL866II Plus Chip Tester. I like how it has the extra socket built in. My current programmer required an adapter for that which I had to wire up.

I noticed that windows update sometimes shows firmware updates. They are bios update. Don't do them!
Every single time i tryed to do one with Hp laptops the update fully install, the pc reboot, fail to reboot, recover the old bios saved by itself somewhere and reflash it back. So AVOID windows firmware updates!

most laptops ive update using windows update does do this but at the first update after reformatting the laptop wndows shows its downloading the firmware for the bios update but doesnt get through and prioritize the drivers and hidden under the optional update there youll see the firmware being sideline so you can choose another time to update or not the bios. but ive experienced in different brand like maybe hp or dell that the firmware is automattically update via windows update and later version of windows 22h2 they dont apply this on different models and brands but for me always go to optional to check if firmware is not included.

Why does Microsoft have so much self-confidence for Bios update via Windows update? When i was setting up Windows 11 (bundled together with new laptop), it blue screened turning loging to MS account and the instsll never continued. Bios updates from Windows update sounds like rock solid idea 😆

Brother I put my fedora operating system on update and after that my laptop went to the same State as described in this video. It wasn't even turning off . I waited for its battery to die so it shuts down and restarted it. Now it shows the Lenovo logo and then turns off again shows it and it's a loop. I entered bios settings to install Operating system again assuming this might have corrupted the Linux os and it should work again as I install it now but I can't find a way to do that. Nothing is working. can I suppose that it is this same issue

It happened to me too once i think its something new in windows laptop automatically download bios update and do it on next restart... for me i had so bad luck i lost power in house for 1 second and exactly on that moment it happened :( so i needed to re flash bios manual with bios programmer. My suggestion to people is when they see something like that put charger into laptop and just leave it no mater how much time it take it will be ok.

A friend asked me to take a look at his Lenovo Legion Y530. If I press the power button, the power button LED and power LED on the side light up for about 11 seconds, then both power off for another 11 seconds, and the cycle repeats itself until I hold the power button for 4 or 5 seconds. No image on the screen, no fans movement, nothing. Could it also be the BIOS? I tried unplugging the main battery and CMOS battery, then holding the power button for more than 60 seconds, but the problem still remains. It seems to charge OK, after a few hours the charging LED went from orange to white. Before charging it, the power button LED and side LED would blink for 11 seconds, then stop for 11 seconds.

Hi, I also have a legion Y530, that has a really weird problem. One day it just stopped booting into any operating system, when it tries booting into windows it seems to freeze and shows a black screen after a few seconds of trying to boot. The caps lock button stops responding too. It does the same thing when trying to boot linux via USB or internal ssd, so I'm locked out out of any operating system. Wondering if it's a corrupted bios, but I don't have any tools to flash it with.
Perhaps you found a way to flash the bios without extra tools? I've read about panic mode reflashing, but it didn't seem to work on my model :(

I dropped a screwdriver on the board, touched the gpu chip and the board and sparked, so I think it has shorted something or burned the GPU. The thing is that the board has nothing visible damaged and on the other hand the laptop is functioning like nothing happened. It is using the INTEL 630 and not reconizing the gpu on the device manager.
