  • How I became an Ultrasound Technologist: my college journey to becoming a sonographer
    WHY I chose ultrasound
    HELLO FAM! And welcome to my channel!
    I appreciate you being here always.
    My name is Geselle and I am a sonographer that loves life and Disney.
    Thank you SO MUCH for stopping by!!
    Today's video is long, but very personal and near and dear to my heart. It's my story of how I ultimately became an ultrasound technologist/ sonographer. Many of you have been asking how I got into the field and if I love it. First off, I love it! Secondly, everyone's experience will be different. Where you live, what college or program you go to, what high school you attended, how you study... everyone has a different journey. This is my personal journey and what I went through to get to where I am today. I had my share of struggles and confusion, times where I couldn't get through a class, and had to repeat classes, but I made it. This is a story of life--ups and downs, setbacks and failures. But I wanted to share it because if I can do it, so can you. I am someone who battles with overthinking and anxiety. I want you guys to know that it's possible to achieve your dreams. Believe in yourself as hard as it is and know that if you truly want something you can make it happen.
    In this video, I give tips on how to study, things you should know on how to get into a program, what it's like to be in ultrasound clinical, and advice/recommendations on other little details. So it's surely a video you should watch the whole duration of so you don't miss out on some key things that helped me get through college and ultimately my sonography program. I went through a bachelor's program for general sonography. I tried to shorten the story as much as I could but I wanted to make sure you guys get to hear my experiences, my struggles, and my achievements! I hope my story can help you out in any way. If there's anything else I can do, don't hesitate to comment below or DM me on instagram. I will happily answer your questions!
    Thank you so much for being here, for supporting this channel, for growing in life with me. We are on the road to 1,000 subscribers! We made our September goal of 500 subscribers! I really appreciate you all. Stay safe, be kind, stay PAWSitive. And we'll see you on the next one!
    XOXO, Ges.

    Just two years ago right out of high-school I went out of state to study nursing at a college that was way to expensive and also distracting my grades werent the A’s and B’s they needed to be to get into the nursing program so I came back home applied to community college and found out about ultrasound. So far my grades are great and I’m applying to the ultrasound program next semester something I’m very excited about. I’ve recently started watching your videos and it’s just making me more motivated and excited for this future 😊

      Amberly Delacruz wow your story is one that people need to hear, because it’s okay to also go through that, and I know it must’ve been tough. I too didn’t get the grades but that doesn’t mean we’re not smart or capable!!! Things do change when you enjoy the subject! I’m so proud that your grades are great and you’re applying to the program!!! I’m so happy for you 🥰 can’t wait to hear about you and your success, don’t be a stranger 🤍

(I haaaate tests) lol. But it’s not about the grades that make you a good tech, it’s how much you’re willing to learn and to study/ focus/ and prove you want to help others and work on your scanning/ patient care skills. Hope to see you around and hear your journey! 🤍✨

    I have known that I wanted to be a Sonographer since my freshman year of high school. I started college right out of high school and then about a year in life happened (marriage, kids, job..) and I had to put my education on pause to focus on family. After taking a 4 year break, I started my college journey again in August of 2019 and I am so glad I made the decision to do it. I have been dealing with the repercussions of slacking off my first year of college, which really hurt my GPA, but I'm finally able to apply for the program after this semester and I'm so excited and proud I have made it this far. I love that you made this video to share your college journey, it's nice to hear what others have gone through to get where they are. It is very inspiring!

Mine for example was apart of the health sciences program called "comprehensive medical imaging" with a an emphasis in ultrasound. You can also look up on www.caahep.org to find accredited schools you can go to! Definitely join Facebook groups online to see if there are anyone who went to school in the Chicago area! How long did it take you to graduate? I am in my third year of college and thinking about switching from nursing to sonography. I started my nursing program and am beginning to realize I don't think nursing is for me. I mostly went into it because everyone wanted me to. This is what makes wanting to switch so hard for me because I don't want everyone to be disappointed in me. I am also scared to switch because that will put me behind a year so I would be in school for a total of 5 years instead.

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  3 года назад

      Hi Mikayla! It took me 6 years of school in order to graduate. It would have been 7 if I didn’t get lucky to get in when I did, I was an alternate so I could have been pushed back a year but thankfully wasn’t. I’m going to make a video on my specific ultrasound journey. Hope you can stay tuned for that. But I realized nursing wasn’t for me. And that’s the same for me, my family wanted that for me as well. But I switched because I found something I loved. I think if they see you switching to something you’d actually enjoy and like to do, I don’t think they would be disappointed. You can explain to them how you feel, many people go through what you are going through, and what I went through. Don’t be scared if you find something you love. It’s not a race, but I can tell you this much.. I don’t regret it at all. I hope this answer finds you well. ❤️

    can you please make a video about continuing education after completing an ultrasound program? Is it possible to test for a registry in Vascular if you completed a Gen/OB program?

    • @lolgeselle

      Brittany Griffin yes!! I can do that 🥰 vascular is included in general ultrasound as well! So you can sit for vascular! If you go to ardms.org it can show you what you need to sit in for those exams! Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned for your answer featured in a future video!! ✨

    Ate! May mga important question po ako sana po maisagot nyo🥹
    Plano ko po mag radtech pero d ko po naabutan ang enrollment. Isa lng din kasi ang school dto na may radtech so ang 2nd choice ko po ay ang nurse. Makakuwa kaya ako ng mga tech-related speciality kung nurse lng ang career ko?

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  11 месяцев назад

      Kung gusto mong mag-radtech, i suggest na huwag kang mag-nursing. Kung nursing ka, nursing lang ang kaya mo. Ngunit maaari kang palaging mag-nursing at pagkatapos ay pumunta sa radtech. Bahala ka! Good luck!

    Did your sonography program not require you to be an x-ray tech? Where I live you must be an x-ray tech to apply for sonography school! So altogether it takes 5 years of college (1 year prerequisites, 2 years radiology technology program, 2 years ultrasound program).. love your videos and personality, so cute ❤️

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  3 года назад +5

      ava marie hi love thank you so much for watching! My program actually does not require that. 😱 But wow I’ve heard that was a thing in other places! But that’s great too because now you’ll also know how to shoot X-rays and that makes you more versatile and more knowledgable! Are you an ultrasound technologist who knows how to do xrays 😍😍😍 we have a tech like that at our place!

    Do you recommend applying to CSN Diagnostic Medical Sonography program?

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  3 года назад +3

      Lanesia yes! They are accredited by CAAHEP and have a good success rate. They offer both the general track and the cardiovascular track so all you have to do is decide which track you plan on doing. They also have a competitive program. The minimum GPA is 2.5 but obviously you want to have the best GPA to get in compared to other students. And it’s an associates degree so if you’re okay with that, then sometimes associates can be better for someone rather than a bachelors. The degree doesn’t make a difference in pay, what makes the difference is bachelors takes longer to get, you can do more with a bachelors such as become a lead tech somewhere, be able to get a masters to become a director of a radiology department, or perhaps become a supervisor. If you’re not looking to move up, then associates degrees work just fine. I hope this was helpful! ✨
