    Common problem on most modern headlamps. Seems to be worse on Xenon and LED lamps as they don't generate enough heat to turn the condensate in to a vapour which can leave via the vents. Hence it's rarely an issue for cars with Halogen bulbs that are regularly used as they get really hot. Great video went in to lots of detail :)

    Hello guys. I had lots of condensation that no amount of hairdryer heat would remove. Then the headlight burned and a week later the adaptive on that headlight was giving a fault warning. I removed the headlight, disassembled the ballast and the adaptive module that is also underneath the headlight. They had lots of water. I used contactor cleaner for the rusted contacts and put the headlight and modules in the oven for 10 minutes in the lowest temperature. Repwated a couple of times being careful not to melt the plastic. Then I sealed the lens as shown on this video, now the ballast is working and the adaptive module is not giving fault codes. I only spent the cost of the silicone. No shop will want to help you save money like this. Thanks for the video. It was inspiring.
    PS. I suspect the water entered through the rear cover As it seemed the seal was not being pressed at all and at speed in the rain water was sipping in. The screw posts are too long for the cover to seat properly. So I used a Dremel to make the posts shorter and make the rubber seal tighter.

    * UPDATE * This fix carried out 10 months ago is still free from any condensation, I mean even though there has been plenty of cold weather since there has not been one single instance on water in the headlight or fogging up since this solution was carried out..

      Got same issue after 3 months after car was repainted. Passenger side ok. Driver side mist leaving the top cover off while driving the heat will clear the mist. Or using heat gun and enclosed box. I believe the fix is reseal the clear cover on the housing and all gaskets. I made my own thin gaskets from silicone from hardware and placed oem gasket ontop. Very tight seal. No more condensation. Cost me about $70. New adaptive light cost $600. Good video.

  • @BjornBuzzurk
    @BjornBuzzurk 6 лет назад +5

    The gel you are thinking of is a good idea actually, we use it offshore in electrical components thats goes subsea. It is a dielectric silicon oil. Overheating with this is no issue, it will transfer heat pretty well. However, not sure how "easy" this solution is tho, it is pretty messy to work with. But thanks for the videos again, as always, and keep them coming :)

    • @carlubetv
      @carlubetv  6 лет назад +1

      bshagen that’s interesting, if I have the issue again I’m definitely be trying the gel, I am however very confident that reselling the lights has solved the problem.

  • @mu6554
    @mu6554 2 года назад +4

    So I’m confused here. What was the key to remove condensation? Was it replacing rubber seal on the top of the housing (when you open the hood), was it splitting silicon grill in between the headlight housing, was it the silicon bags?

  • @InTheMiddle95
    @InTheMiddle95 Год назад +2

    I made the mistake of returning a wet ballast like that back into it's place just so that I use the seal on it since another aftermarket ballast is actually powering my bulb. Now I have condensation on the new headlight 24h after installing it. So learn from my mistakes - don't return a wet ballast back into the headlight. I will deal with this issue later on but silica gel packs are easing the problem so far.

      @@carlubetv getting the power plug from the back of the light was a pain in the grass, removed all of the bulbs and used a hair dryer on a low temperature but long duration (25mins). On the Mk2 focus ST it leaks on the corner at the indicator side, I used alcohol wipes to clean and then a black all weather silicone sealer. I'm going to let it cure over night in my house as it drops below freezing tonight. I won't know if I'm successful until Wednesday morning 👍

    You would think that the obscene price that we pay for a quality automobile, that this problem would not be an issue. I have made an appointment with my dealer to look at this issue. (answer) Prevent it! If you can't prevent it from happening again, it's time to invent a headlight casing that this will not occur.

    • @carlubetv
      @carlubetv  5 лет назад +2

      Steve Mumma (nylonguitar) I couldn’t agree with you more but even if you bought a brand-new four series they do it as well, they have moved the position of the ballast though to the back of the headlight so when it does get wet you don’t lose your headlights.

    Hi, just purchased an e92 with adaptive xenon, keep getting a right dimmed light failure warning light and bulb goes out, turn lights off and on again it’s fine for a few minutes and then the same, it goes off, on, off, on, off and then failure warning light, is it the bulb or the ballast do you think 🤔 many thanks for your help.
