Very nice explanation Ovidiu you saved money to repair vs replacing. Have a good understanding of what causes the moisture issue and how to repair if needed. Thank you, 😆
I just watched one of your repaired videos and you are awesome, I’m the proud owner of a M packaged e61 and all you need is a little common sense and videos like yours. Thank you so much. 🇨🇦
Thank you so much for the video. I have water inside my e60 headlight, and no clue how to find the cause before watching this video. Following the steps in this video, I was able to find out the issue. It was the seals around the lens cover! The wires inside the headlight crumbled, and caused a short, which also killed the AHL function. I guess it created sparks and melted the sealant. In some area, the plastic also melted! I guess I’m lucky the car didnt catch fire. I’m bringing the headlights to a professional to repair all the wires next week as I couldnt open the cover myself. I tried using heat gun and failed.
Thanks for this video. Very helpful. For those in the UK, Home of Headlights in London reseal headlights at a very reasonable price. I'm a happy customer, having a BMW F10 left hand side headlight resealed.

Great repair! I had the two cap area and one small area leaking. I fixed. But I still ha the a leak around the screw which adjusting the headlight. Do you know how can I fix that leak? Thanks.
If you arent confident enough to remove the lens to get to the source then your best bout might be to use some Butyl sealant and use it to cap off the adjustments from the top, the only issue is everytime you may want to adjust the lights you will have to apply some heat to take the sticky Butyp off and redo with Butyl once adjusted.
Hey Ovi, great video, RUclips needs more people like you. I've ran through all the processes and found out that my ventilation vents (the U-shaped things with sponge in it) are missing. I have 4 holes with no cover and I think that's one part of the problem. Do you know the diameter or where to get spare parts? No BMW site has them as a single unit to sell. It's just a stupid tube, I know, but I'd just buy it for some euros instead of "building" something myself that doesn't work properly. Keep up the great work!
After disconnecting the parking sensors, is it necesary to initialize them with electronic tester? Or it works just by reconnecting them again? Thanks!
No need to initiate nothing, only to erase the error if you want to have the car clean, if not when you will go with the car at someone like me will tell you that you have removed the front bumper at exact date hour and mileage:)
Great video together with Part 1. @M. Ovidiu Question...do you recommend a repair if the black housing is cracked on top and if yes how? (F11 LCI, 2014 right headlight)
You are using a "fake plug" to seal the plug connection pins (video-time: 4:25). Where can I get this one, shall it be an original, or can I get it cheap? Do I need to close this opening before washing?
@@MOvidiu Oh, sorry, maybe a wrong wording, it is usually a terminology in scale modelling. :-) I meant, the plug is not the one from the car. But, the original from the car is connected with the cables to the rest of the car, so I think, I will not cut the cables, but seal this connectors by some other solution to avoid water coming in.
Hi there. Thank you for the fantastic tutorial! Subbed your channel :) What is the piece of black sealant you used at the end of repairing the crack (the one you dried with a heat gun)?
Headlight sealant it’s called butyl tape widely available on eBay. You can get it in a roll with different thicknesses or in a tube similar to a normal silicone.
just passed a year of F10 2013 ownership, great car completely great but headlight started having much condenstation inside and the fault has started appearing on my dash so I've never hitted Like and Subscribe button faster. Im trying this in few days so I'll leave a review aswell
Good job! But still, is it reasonable to remove ALL modules? Few minutes later You drilled some holes anyway. Most of the water could be sucked (or let drip) out through the drill hole(s). I had no splashing water inside, just a lot of condensate inside the polycarbonate lens. So I opened the top cover, over halogen bulb and inserted a small weak hairdryer (Philips Stylist or smth), lukewarm setting. Additionally I used a blower heater (also modest setting) to warm up the poycarbonate lens from outside. Within 20-30 minutes the headlight was all dry.
Hello! depending! the question is not wheel placed ! the time to do a certain thing always depends on the knowledge and experience of the person involved in that operation !
I find I can dry the moisture out of my headlight while it is in the car by putting a hair dryer on the lowest heat setting into the top access port. depending on the amount of moisture it may take a couple of hours but I don't have to take the headlight apart.
Good job, but by doing that you resolve the cause but not the problem! important is to find and fix the cracks from where the moisture has managed to enter inside the headlight, yes you can remove some moisture as you say, and resolve it for the moment but you don't resolve the cause!
@@MOvidiu Oh, I understand that. the point is that you don't need to take all of that stuff out to dry it, just dry it in the car and then take it out and fix the cracks.
All good, but to make it better i wash headlamp with distilled water, and with IPA, and then dry it - to prevent dried water leaving stain on inner side of the glass
What would you recommend if you don't have a dummy plug to use. I'm trying to find a leak and but air coming out where the electrical connection is makes it hard to find.

Hello ! the car headlight needs those breathers ( vents ), when it works the air inside heats up, the hot air increases its volume and needs to go outside, and vice versa when it cools down, as long as the headlight is as it was designed nothing bad will happen with it, problems arise when this process is interrupted by an unsealed lid or a crack
Video is extremely well done ! But I do not understand, the headlight is in general open with the ventilation tube, but the cracks cause the water condensation…
Yes it is open with the atmosphere, because the headlight when it works the air in it is heated and expands and needs to come out ..when is cools vice versa. The headlight will never condensate from the breadhere if they are like factory mounted them
@@MOvidiu Thank you very much for respond. If I understand you right , the breathing feature is working like a one way valve ? Means normally no entry of humidity through the vent. Am I right ? You can try that, but won't work for long time, firstly the silicone won't adhere correctly, secondly will look like a carpenter have work on it 😉
👍
It was more simply and solid to change just the front cover of the headlight, it's not expensive a front cover for F10.
Yes, you can do that too!
can you send the link for the cover for the f10?

Pls repair my headlight :(
Hello ! you have all the necessary information to do it yourself :)
Why would they do adhesive for a freaking light what happened to O-rings seal ,no wonder the F10 I have will be the last BMW for me just completely garbage quality
These cars are not made to be repaired at the curb ! ,the headlights are non-repairable they need to be replaced to do a guaranteed job. but even so they can be repaired refurbished with aftermarket parts and/or parts recovered from other used headlights, but can't be guaranteed! being a luxury brand, this is they policy and vision!
