- An update of my home server rack. I just got in my side panels as well as moved around some of my servers. I'm going to probably sell some of the IBM x335 servers, so that's pretty much the reason for the rearranging. Had to also rewire the whole rack as a result.
*Update* 4/20/2013
I have been getting a lot of comments and questions about what I use this for or what I do for a living. So just to give you guys an update, I have recently moved to a different location and have made some changes to my home server room. We currently acquired some space in a data center for most of our production servers that we host on. My home servers are just for server testing and development as well as light weight hosting and proxy serving for some of our clients. So that is pretty much what I do. Testing, development, deploying, hosting and managing servers/networks. I also do some IT consulting for some small businesses and that is what we host, we also host and manage their infrastructure through VDI technologies.
If you have any other questions feel free to drop me a message and I will do my best to respond quickly or if you want to inquire about some hosting that we could possibly provide for you, I can help you out with that to.
Thanks for all of your nice comments and likes, I really appreciate it.
one of the cleanest well organized cabling i ever seen bedsides a data center.. man, that server rack is sweet!!
I just LOVE how you got proper ventilation to it!
A few hours ago I were moving some things in a tiny server room without ANY ventilation except two holes in the door.. Could hardly breathe!
@PoweredbyCiscoIBM What size of rack screws do you use for the rack. I have a set of IBM x336s to install in a threaded rack but I don't know the exact screw to use when at Home Depot. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I've liked your setup and cable organization since the first video of yours I saw. Looks great.
Fantastic Job!!!!! I am currently relocating my servers to new cabinets, I am doing the cabling exactly the same as you have done. I have been wiring industrial network and control panels for years, can't stand untidy cabling. My biggest hurdle is a 40 Amp power supply I will need to install.
excellent setup. I'm jealous. The cabling is very clean. You did a great job.
Wow, very nice!! I personally love the sound of humming servers, kinda like some guys love the sound of a big block V8, or a Harley Davidson! Knowing you created that complex buch of machines and they are all talking to each other makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, LOL!! Again, great job, it's a masterpiece!
That is the coolest home setup i have seen. Nicely done.
Thats one awesome looking cabinet with fantastic cable management!
Well done mate; I too am a big fan of wire management and you nailed it!
Pretty legit ..till the cardboard cutout window exhaust
Such... perfect cable management! It's... beautiful. *Sniffles*
The tool is you. Ive got an similar center to that.
I host peoples webpages, Voice servers, mail server, stream server, file servers. And tons of other hosting services.
Its a additional income ontop of my normal job and also an hobby of mine.
Just because you are way to technicaly impaired doesnt mean everyone is.
So what do need all that for? I mean other than just awesome.
No patch panels? Did you terminate the jacks around the house one end with the wall plate female RJ45, and the other end just with a male RJ45 into the switchs? How fast is your upload speed to the internet? Anything less than 10Mbps upload is pretty bad when you have so many servers.
Stunning setup. Couple of questions. I have a small half rack setup with only 3 servers running and a few switches/routers and the heat is insane. How do you deal with that? Also what do you use all that for at home?
i love the cable management. good job
oh superb....is it the current cost? and actually i dont have any knowledge of servers, as I am a software developer. I want to host my web application at my place, and the servers that I use is the software that are downloadable at the specific vendors site(you must be knowing). Are these the actual servers which companies use(similar to this, but with huge amount) for their applications?
A work of love. That rack setup is cleaner than the one I used to run for my small web company. Is that whole thing for pictures of the family? or do you have substantial upstream bandwidth?
soo cool...music for my hears :D
Lol, He has a Stargate in the basement. Cool setup.
@PoweredbyCiscoIBM lol this server looks almost exactly like the one i built at our IT office but i put HP Proliant dl380's in it instead. Same rack and switches and cabling style. I personally have an HP ProL gl580G3 as my home server but i wonder why you would really have something as much as this. Are any of the OS's virtualized or is there an OS per server. And do you host websites or mail or something.
Are those cables custom-length or did you find another way to make them just the right length ?
Great cable management job! love it!
Some of us work from home and our business requires this sort of setup
Awesome set up bro! I love clean racks and hate it when I have to work on someone's noodles! That's termination skills~
just kinda curious, why do you have a rack server settup. what computing do oyu do???
wow that is really nice. What do you run on the servers? Unix or windows?
jealous....what services do you run at home? is it strictly LAN, or do you connect remotely as well? Man I wish I had a hive like that!
@PoweredbyCiscoIBM A server is not for browsing the web faster, based on your build you do know what your doing... Give the man a real explination...
Astounding installation! And what for model of a rack you use?
Are you serious?! That is crazy, It's so clean, I love it!
as demonstrated by that BEAUUUUTIFULL tower. Although i must ask what on earth do you do with that!!! and did it cost closer to 4 or 6 figures?
my god!!! the energy much love you!!
One word , Respect tbh . Great setup .
Just a question but what do you use it for? i'm just curious
If you were rendering or storing video, or backing up your job files, I'd understand, but as it stands, just for testing, you must really be rich, to fire up this much power for no reason.
But power to you, you did it exemplary.
just a quick question, what country are you from?
@PoweredbyCiscoIBM 120 or 240? also what kind of PDU do you use?
Nice! I like the good old working on server!
@PoweredbyCiscoIBM agreed.... may i ask what you requires you to have this set up.... IE.... WTF do you do.... lol what sort of uploading and downloadign do you do...?
do you run several massive clouds form your house? may your into digital stores? idk very nice set up tho again... much respect...
Nice work mate! Looks very professional! Can you maybe tell more about the specs of the servers? And why u'r set those in your own room, in stead of in a server allocation?
Greetings from the Netherlands, John
Do u really need that many servers at home? Wouldn't you be better off with VMs? How much does the electricity for that setup cost?
wow nice set up! What do you use all this equipment for ?
what is that silver thing on the roof connecting from the server?
that's one hefty Electricity Bill! My hair is green with envy!
really loud, does that room echo through the house?
I'm such a geek I love stuff like this :D I've been dreaming of getting a professional data center.
Looks great, love this sorta video. Great job cabling too
Looks like someone has had their hands on the Companies IT cupboard.
Great setup! Just wonder about the pipeline what's made of
I feel sorry for his electric bill XD Nice setup anyway!
are these just simply connected with web cables? sry im from finland i may not know how to write that =DDD but anyways that simply? and they do the same thing like u have one pc then u say it to do something and then te others actually help it am i right? thats what i want to do with bunch of crap pcs =DD=D
Great rig that you have there man, Congrats!
But I just cannot help but wonder why do you need such awesome performance?
Can you shed some light on that for me?
Thanks in advance!
hey how many servers do you have in total, and whats the cost per one server? and hows the electrical bill?
I like it, How much did it cost though?
what are the reasons for having a server this size in your house?
WOW that is really nice... how much did you spend?
Whats your electric bill running all these servers? How much do you pay per KW/H?
Wow that's amazing! Nice equipment too!
This is awesome, but why? There's enough hardware in there to power 1000 websites... what's your uplink like?
how do you get them work together? just internet cable????
Why are there more than one LAN plug going into each server?
@PoweredbyCiscoIBM I dont get it. wouldnt you just get a faster ISP to brows the internet faster?
What are you using the IBM servers for?
So how mutch did you invest in this servers?
And what parts are you using?
What sort of Power is it using? 230v Or something similar
If you had to rate your electric bill on just that room per month, how much would it be do you think?
man this is insane... what do you do with servers?
Good job with the wiring!
how meany Mbps do you get from your internet service provider? and what do you use this for?
What does all of that do, give you better nettwork or?
Hey! Why do you have such a larger server?
That is great and all but will it blend?
Hi, I have slow internet connection about 2/2mb speed and have 5-10 website to host, so the question is can i have my own home server with one Dell PowerEdge1950 ?
all sites together bandwidth per month is 75-100GBs
These X-Series 3XX are loud as hell!
what is your power consumption and your final electricity bill?
Wow That is AMAZING!!!!
How much does that cost like all the hardware? total?
It realy soudns like some of the fans bearings are going bad tho. Might just be the camera but it got that classical rattling noise to it that signals a bearing going bad.
Hey just wondering what's your job title?? I want to go back to school for IT.
What do you use those servers for??
Epic!!
how much electricity it pulls per day?
Translated with google translate
Your connection speed must be fucking amazing.
What sort of Speeds do you get, 300mbps?
hold on that crazy. How can they remove the 25/25 connection. That connection is much better for DLNA, VPN, PLEX, and other file sharing protocols.
Gorgeous!
i wonder what u do in your home.. hope this not only for centralized your HD movies and PS3 games :)
great set up btw, since this was build in 2010 right?
i really like that rack but why do you need that?
if you make a shuttdown, is ther alot of work to gett it to run again??
Two power supplies at the top are not connected for redundancy, that is a minus.
What do you use all them servers for.
How much was all of this?
And power usage?
Thats is bigger than our entire school server across the school. Ps how many ethernet switches do you have. Pss how much does it cost
sweet setup, whats its use ?
This may be a stupid question but what can you do with that beast, i want to get one like that :)
What do you use this for?
What do you do with this kit??
great job excellent setup!!!!!
If it is not necessary for you, it does not mean that it is not no use to anyone.
