Thanks for the review it helped me to keep looking and I settled on the Gazelle G6 Gazebo Deluxe because it has windows in the mesh and another door for better ventilation and also roll down sides for complete rain protection. Its expensive but worth it!
that's the same with all screens of that size. What we did that worked GREAT was to use a DeWalt battery-powered fan blowing air OUT of the door which creates a flow of air consistently throughout and really pushes the heat out. The higher you set the fan, the more heat it pushes out. Just our experiences. Thanks for the review.
The small fan sounds like a great solution to what (to y'all) is a MAJOR problem w/ the Gazelle. A larger mesh would allow the bugs/insects access to the interior, thus, ANOTHER prob for y'all in Florida. Guess, sitting under an awning is the solution, for some. Y'all Be Safe!@
we just got ours and you right about heat. we where at a beach campground no shade during a heat wave here in del. i had a fan inside to move air later in the evening. I rather put a fan in it then deal with bugs. best part is setup and take down.
We have one too. We like it and are happy we got it. But definitely agree. The biggest con of this screened tent is: When it's sunny & warm it can get HOT inside the tent. We made somewhat a solution to this by adding an additional layer of shade....we just rig up a small blue tarp to the "ceiling" by attaching it to the support poles. That helps a lot. And we have the exact same metal stakes with the orange....definitely need to upgrade the stakes!
Sounds like a keeper for me. I'd be using it in October in Michigan during archery hunting as a place where I can sit with a couple buddies and be protected from light rain and wind. So I'd be using the wind panels. Of course the stakes are junk; I have my own. Also, like a hub hunting blind, you guy it out from the center hubs too.
It would be good if they gave a couple of options on mesh size. I hear a lot of people in the more southern areas talk about no see ums but in the northern areas the enemies are mostly mosquitoes, black flies and deer flies and the mesh doesn't have to be that fine to keep them out. In hot weather being able to feel a breeze is important and you might not be able to plug in a fan
I’ve owned a lot of high quality tents, by different manufactures, and I just bought a Gazelle T4. I bought new stakes when I ordered the tent. I have never had adequate stakes come with any of them. Just the way it is

I just bought one and got 6 wind panels for it. I also got a wood stove and some stuff to make a stove jack. I got some mylar emergency blankets to attach to the insides of the wind panels. I plan to use it as a hot tent. UPS just delivered the gazebo today. Waiting on the blankets and panels and the stove jack supplies so I can put it all together. I've been wanting to make a hot tent with the mylar blankets attached to the walls of the tent, but couldn't figure out a good way to attach them to a regular tent without making it permanent or putting holes in the wall of the tent. I saw these and it all came together.
I have a Gazelle tent that I love and was looking at clam shell screen tent. Living and camping mostly in the south I am going to go with tent with mosquito netting. No see ems not an issue where I camp; mosquitoes big time issue.
No tent I’ve ever had came with good stakes, guess is kind of standard to include crappy ones. I’ve had my Gazelle for a few years now and personally I would much much rather put up with some heat than bug bites, maybe I haven’t encountered the temperatures you have although I have camped in Death Valley in late Spring and I didn’t get as hot inside as you mentioned. Hi Kim, It's Matt. I'm replying from my other channel Native Sugar Shack. We never did find an alternative that suited us. When we boondocked with other RV'ers who had other brands and compared notes we had all come to about the same conclusions, but it does depend on the climate you happen to be in I suppose. I want to do some boondocking in my Honda Odyssey, but I have two smaller dogs and do not feel safe just tying them out. Thought a clam would give me a place to relax and let my dogs run around too. Maybe a reflective shade blanket over the top?
💯 agree! In NC, I can’t really use the G6 from late spring through early fall because the gazebo is too hot. I’ve given up on using this to avoid mosquitos. But I still like it for sun, wind, and rain protection and for storing my stuff. I’m not ready to buy the cool top deluxe G6. I’m thinking about modifying my old G6 so that it breathes. Specifically, I’d cut out the mesh on the two sides that are diagonally across from the door. With those 3 sides open, I should get plenty of ventilation (and mosquitos, alas!). If I ever needed to close it up, I’d just use the add-on wind/rain panels. Cutting up my gazebo feels like sacrilege. But it’s either that or let it gather dust in my garage. Have you ever done something like this or know of anyone who has? How’d it turn out?
I had the same thing with the clam model. it works best when you are trying to be out of the wind and its cooler out. I also upgrade the stakes and you have to run ropes from the side tie downs.
I have a clam too...i love it. Camped a few weeks ago...unzipped the door and you could feel the cold air rush in. I'm not looking forward to FLA summers. Ha. The Clam stakes are huge and solid.
Thanks for the heads up on the shelter I too would not be able to be comfortable with the mesh. But we want to set one up on the patio with fans inside ours would be in the shade. Smoking is done outside and we have west Nile concerns. Would be nice for smokers as long as you midigate the heat.

The stake issue is pretty much the norm in the tent industry. All the tents I’ve ever bought come with crap stakes and I’ve always have had to upgrade the stakes straight from the initial purchase. I keep a stock of aftermarket stakes in my camping gear.
I hadn't thought about the heat build up. I have a small portable A.C. unit that I could use but then you need power. I'm an old time tent camper and I have replaced the stakes on every one I have bought with the heavy metal ones. Great review.
For stakes I use those big nails you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot. They are used to nail landscape timbers together. Buy a large washer for each nail. You can drive them with a hammer and remove them with the same hammer or use a crowbar. Those things you have in your hand break like crazy.😀
I do agree with the part about no air and what I did was keep it if possible setup in the shade and I brought a Vacmaster Air Mover Blower Fan Dryer Cooling Carpet Wall Floor Dryers 3-Speed set it up on a bucket and it moves the air in a way it feels like AC lol and I also got a blowup couch and man oh man I be so relaxed I rest for hours. Now one note when it’s day time and I’m out doing stuff I open all the triangle vent and front door then as it starts to get nite time I close them and turn on the fan I don’t even go inside the RV and get under the AC
With the cams collapsing because of the wind, did you use the provided guy rope to hook to the cams so they don't collapse. Also, Florida, it would not matter what gazebo you have, it's going to be hot regardless. I agree with the wire stakes, easy upgrade. Other than that, it's a great product.
Mountainsky Aerial Photography sorry, it’s been a while & I don’t recall the details. I likely did use the cam stakes, always do, but sandy soil & high winds were the problem. Better stakes did keep it from becoming a tumbleweed. Thanks for watching!

I do not know about battery but regular fan helps a lot. I set the tent in sun and I felt myself very comfortable with fan and gazebo provides shade from roof. I have chipper brand $120 or so
Brenda Sweetapple we’ve found that it will provide some protection from light rain. I’ve not noticed leaks around poles or seams, but I wouldn’t leave anything in there that can’t get wet because of the screen walls which provide far less protection from rain especially if there is wind involved. I adore your After the Honeymoon videos and your partial after the fact. I purchased my RV awning and the screen with it in Quartzsite. It does allow the breeze while blocking the sun. It's not handy to set up as you did in Florida to make a community shelter. The screen can be purchased on Amazon to enclose a regular pop up.
Problem w pop up shelter solution is no bug protection. I’ve seen people (on YT) putting reflective tarps over the top of their Clams to reduce the heat going in through the ceilings. That’s what I’m going to try.
I would miss the breeze... wud be nice with a roof vent. And would need a fan... I'd maybe put a diff hanging net over the door like a curtain so u can keep door open and maybe get breeze that way.
The lack of a zippered floor to keep rattlers and scorpions out for western use looks like a limitation to me. It looks like it might be good for use in the mountains. Still there are snakes in the western mountains.
Hi Cindy, We didn't sit in either, as I recall nobody did. I believe the screen is the same on both, very tiny. Looking at them side by side, there may have been tiny differences, but overall it's as if they could have been made on the same assembly line on a different day if you know what I mean, very much alike.
Those stakes they supply are a joke! Like you, we use the metal stakes! That is the number one problem with these type of outdoor rooms. Heat! If you follow 70 degree's, they are great! Thanks for sharing the truth of the matter!
Great review. Can the roof stand up to rain? Once Clam reviewer said he got soaked in his Clam from water seeping through seam holes stretched by the pop-out feature of the roof frame - which it seems is why I would buy one of these designs. (I had the same wet experience in a pop-out hunting blind). I see both shelters have attachable side panels as well.
cabincreek not as well as I had hoped. It can handle a sprinkle but not a rain storm & if you don’t anchor it down well it can become a kite... don’t ask how I know this, ha!!
We have a Gazzelle too. I agree about the airflow but the Clam is the same. It does work well when it’s cooler when you don’t need airflowWe used it for bike storage in Yellowstone and it snowed. The weight of the snow collapsed the top but no damage. We replaced the stakes too with the same metal stakes you showed. I think a screen shelter that fits over a picnic table with a courser screen that keeps out larger bugs would be more useful.
Hi Matt, my wife and I just bought a 2018 Forza. We now know not to use regular toilet paper. Our half bath toilet is plugged. Were do you shut off the water so I can clean the pipe out? When open the water keeps filling the bowl up. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The long lag bolts work well to hold down a tent, and quick with a cordless impact wrench, may need washers as well!

100% accurate about the heat build up inside one of these. We were shocked how stuffy it got in there in spite of the walls being mesh. :/

Yes, you're right. As long as you can negate the heat it will serve you well. The mesh is definately tiny enough to help prevent pest spread virus.

Try MSR Groundhog stakes. I replace all of my tent stakes with them.

Do you think a battery operated ceiling fan drawing air in (blowing up) would help pull cooler air in along the sides and help push out the warn air?

HI.....Great info, One concern I was wondering is was there any leakage while it rained around the poles or stitching.

Greg Hettig turn off the water pump or the water faucet outside. It’ll probably take a few bowls of water to depressurize the water lines.
