I think women by nature, often compare their looks with other women. This is a natural this but can be double edged sword if not managed properly, from young age they like to be special and the prettiest compared to others while for example, boys doesn't matter for them but more about wanting to be the best at something compared to other boys. now it is a double edged sword cuz for women, it makes them take care of themselves, but it goes toxic and negative when it is about negative comparisson and constant comparison, same for boys, it push them to do better at certain things, it starts from lets say about playing football and being the best at it, as they grow up, it becomes more about wanting to be the most successful in the room
all women have that feeling it is natural and same as men, that's why compliments for women are mostly about their looks while for men it is about how good they are at doing something, now what I'm saying is, back then, for women, the scale was much smaller, just a comparisson for an example around her friends or relatives, while social media opened the gates for everything and right now, the competition seem to be a lot bigger, let alone the trends that often change so quickly, etc, putting more pressure on women to be like that or else, they don't look good enough
makeup companies and lot of big corps exploit and abuse that and dont care about women just so they can sell more products and even monetize women and their beauty for their gain, do you notice how when selling expensive cars they use good looking women too?
idk if my ideas are all just thrown together, but i hope you get my point, social media made things a lot harder, lot of big companies that act to be in favor of women, feminism and all that, contribute to this and continue to let the idea of women are nothing but to please men and tools to exploit for profit

@assad37216 This makes sense yeah, it doesn't help that certain industries make it worse for example the music industry, a lot of female artists have to show off their bodies or brag that their beauty is what made them successful in getting men, I have noticed that car commercials sometimes use attractive women, even companies that sell perfume for women use a woman that fits the perfumes aesthetic which might send this message that they expect a certain type of woman to use that specific perfume and most of the time they include an attractive man so it goes back to what you've said about how companies make beauty a competition and making women feeling like they need to be the "sexiest" or generally attractive enough for a man and maybe even the general population. Your point does make sense though (:

Ill be honest,i only watched the first 4 minutes of the video. Doesn't your entire argument about pretty privilege being caused by patriarchy fall apart due to the fact that men also experience it? Attractive men will also have more oppertunities in life compared to unnatractive men. How can u explain that if patriarchy is the problem?

I get what you're saying, patriarchy also affects men though, if you've watched the Barbie movie, it shows how some men can make the problems worse by following the patriarchal norms. Pretty privilege isn't the case only for women.
