      They should jsut made these “specialists” tied to the class system as a whole… yes it would disrupt balance to a degree but only add additional flavor to what specialists offer what , yes it would be another overwatch but it would’ve made more sense for the dev team to do so rather than gut the entire system for what they advertised on offer….

      The Engineer class wasn't successful, that's stupid. There was literally no reason to play Assault in BF3/BF4. The carbines were literally just slightly different assault rifles, some were straight upgrades to assault rifles. If you didn't care about reviving/healing, you instead had the only anti-tank weapon in the game, which doubled as a direct-fire instagib grenade launcher. You had other gadgets as well in BF4.

    The specialist system was stupid from the start. In a game where anyone can use any weapon, any secondary weapon, and any secondary gadget, its stupid to have “heroes”. The point of heroes in games are to have unique playstyles, but in battlefield, the point of heroes is to pick you passive and primary gadget (and looks). At that point, you might as well just make them subclasses for the already existing role system.

      They wanted to create another overwatch to sell skins but forget it's a battlefield and roles along with nation skins were always distinct and easily detectable. Now there are no nations just team a and b with everyone taking whatever weapon kits and gadgets they want it's a mess,you can't recognize that someone is medic or support or sniper at glance and gameplay suffers due that. Dice already gave up on updates for this game it did happen even quicker than bf5 at least half had really enjoyable tank combat while bf2042 has zero redeeming values. At this point ea will kill them after they mess battlefield one last time honestly it may not be a bad idea it's better to close studio than to keep desecrating rotting corpse every new game.

    • @Jestersage

      More correctly speaking, it's more or less Apex's system. Each hero (Legends) have 1 passive (itself may be multi purpose), 1 tactical, and 1 Ult, and then you pick up whatever gun that happens to lie around. Even in the Control (domination), though you can pick one of the 5 weapon kit, you can still pick up dropped guns withotu changing your entire legend.
      The biggest problem with chasing Apex, however, is that it is already in EA. They are basically making the same portfolio instead of having variations.

    • @HaugeBauge
      @HaugeBauge Год назад +3

      Movement and damage should me like in Escape from Tarkov tbh. What bothered me in Battlefield 4 the most is that sniper rifles didn't oneshot to the body, except 2 snipers that you could pick up on some maps. It's just bad weapon balance, and not only on the snipers, that's why most people always play the AEK and that oneshot shotgun in close combat. Just like the fact, that headshots dont oneshot with every weapon, it discourages skill and aim and encourages playing the best weapons, like the ones I mentioned. Getting some sweet long headshots with assault rifles with zoom scopes would be nice, but no, the opponents just keep running like marathon athletes after getting hit in the head lulz.

    Honestly the funny part is hardline took what was good about 4 and tried to improve on it.
    Take the class system, they added the ability to grab meds and ammo from the backpack of support or assault when as we all know, occasionally they don't drop them...no matter how much you spam the request.
    Another thing was cops and criminals had two very distinct silhouettes.
    However, unfortunately that game was met with criticism and accused of having "unoriginal" gameplay.
    Personally I think hardline was one of the best in the series, had a great campaign, was optimised pretty well, took the good things about 3 and 4 and improved them. And even tweaked the vehicle combat so it wasn't as easy to get splash damaged by rocket spam from the level 140 ah1z pilot on the other team.

    The feel and look of BF4 is also just so much better, look at Shanghai and Dawnbreaker compared to Kaleidoscope, there are papers and trash everywhere, damaged buildings, fires, destroyers in the background firing cruise missiles, barricades around buildings, shipping containers, logistics equipment, sandbags, the ambient sounds. The new game feels so sterile, devoid of cover and life at the same time. The loading screen music for BF3 and BF4 was phenomenal as well, sometimes it even has radio chatter in the background. Playing as soldiers, in uniforms, not specialists felt like you are in combined operations warfare, you have marines, jets, helicopters, tanks, light armor, marine banter, and none of the cringe voice lines or specialist nonsense. You are a marine, you are there to take an objective and support your team and squad. Badger was more forgiving to BF2042, saying that change to BF formula with addition of specialists is not an issue, because it's still fun... As many times many others said before "Even a bag of turd can fun with friends".

The new/causual players did as well because most of them wouldn't do much more than the story and get max level. It took a good 7 months for them to start fixing it and they fixed it by the second year of the game for the most part. But it just shows how you can't please both sides equally. The hardcore players should always be priority because they are the reason the games stay alive, and the changes they like usually trickle down to the new/casual players and make them stick around more and have a healthier game.

    Think the root problem for these changes is that a lot of the devs that worked on BF3 and BF4 have left to do other things and the new devs didn't take notes on what worked so focused on what looks good than functionality. It's been happening a lot in gaming for some years that when the old guard leave, the new replacements change things as 'new equals good' rather than just making new maps or weapons, vehicles etc and keeping or improving functionality.
    There's a reason games like COD and Forza sell many copies without being too different.

    • @Registered_Simp

      I mean, SWBF already had a system like that which could work. The solution to their problem had already been solved. Just make it so that you accrue points towards specialists by doing things like playing the objective or teamwork. Then you can make the specialists have a certain gimmick which makes them notably strong, but not unkillable. It really isn't that hard...

    • @konradzukowski213
      @konradzukowski213 Год назад

      @Sasha Lemay The reason why they changed the system isn't that it didn't work but because before it wasn't monetizable or difficult to do so in its original form. People won't pay a ton of money for only 1 character who's played in 1/4 cases. Making game classless, EA increases chances that more people will actually engage into the monetary aspect of the game.
      Just look at how EA tried to change BFV with introduction of 6 vs 6 mode or making overall TTK shorter, more akin to CoD. Everything to make sure they squeeze out as much money as possible from people who would normally not play this type of game.

    I think a good example of having "heroes" in a Battlefield style game was the original Star Wars Battlefronts. Though I only can confirm for it being in 2 but not 1.
    First you had to earn them, both as a team and if you wanted to play them also as a individual. Though if I remember correctly if your team was getting beat up badly it had the chance of letting your team get a hero to make the game interesting. Second if you saw Darth Vader or Yoda or whoever, you knew you're screwed because they were POWERFUL! But that power came at a cost, you couldn't hide in a corner because you needed kills in order to keep playing them and if you got too far away from your team doing your own thing you'll get overrun faster than Palpatine executing order 66. Heroes needed their team's support to stay alive, and in exchange they can make serious pushes.
    They changed the flow of the game in a good way, were fun to play as (even die to), and also forced the players to be even more coordinated with their team rather than less.

    You can actually carry an entire team of 32 players to victory in BF4 under certain conditions, for example, if you're a tanker on a match of Rush and you're a defender, you're playing as an engineer with the mechanic upgrade, so you can repair faster. Of course, it's better to have a buddy be your gunner, who can jump out and fire rockets at the enemy tank and repair you, but if you're very good on your own, you will most likely be on top of the scoreboard with 0 deaths or 1 death.
    Also, if we're gonna be completely honest here, the classes in BF3 and BF4 were not that well balanced, because Assault had the highest pick rate overall, because he had the best guns and the ability to heal and revive.

At first, he was a copy-paste from BF3 and BF4 and then they nerfed him a little bit, so that he won't have the same 80% pick rate as in BF3 and BF4. That's what they said at the time. Back in the day, when these two games were played by a lot more people, there used to be many times more servers running Locker/Metro 24/7 than there were servers running anything else and people used to run M16A3 in BF3 and ACE-23/M416/AEK in BF4 all day every day.
      But otherwise, you're right, in BF4 on all other maps on Conquest mode, people tend to play Engineer a lot more than anything else, because of how vehicle-heavy the maps in BF4 are.

      @@vasilzahariev5741 i think that F-2000 is the best for CQB, but overall you're right. Also, there are a lot of LMG or SAW players in CQ maps. But i do not like Locker or Metro, so for me, most of gameplay time happends on Conquest large, that is why i said that.

      Assault had a huge pick rate but it has zero viable AT options.
      So the meta for infantry maps is assault spam but for normal play you'd see a mix of engineer/assault with recons and supports being niche picks for their rolls (support being a bit underpowered generally, and recon being the backrage class).
      I wouldn't call assault over powered, just the generalist pick that's strong but with flaws.
      The generalist carbines can compete in the same vallpark as assault rifles, outside of the specfic OP picks. Less of a class wide problem and more of a weapon by weapon balance issue.

    All I wish to see is "How to use the Gold Nova" re-uploaded
    But all things considered this was really cool to see you make a super well-made and in-depth analogy about the flaws of how 2042 alienates what made BF so fun.
