  • Went to Eastchester today to take pictures of the old bus companies' RTS, classics, and CNG RTS-06s.
    7901 and 7904 were there, with others.
    Also found a few old 90 TMC RTS-06s from QV.
    The bus with the back open is the same one as the one with the front taken off, 270.

    RTS-06s from 1990. Going on their 18th year. But as soon as this hybrid order from NYCTA comes in, NYCTA's TMCs are gone. The MTA has plenty of 1990-1994 TMCs left, but the CNG models have been retired, and their hybrid order is too small to retire all their TMCs. (I think, unless they have less than 100)

    The oldest RTS still around in NY is not running but it is Green Lines GMC RTS 03 1012.

    my stepdad's a mechanic...we could turn an RTS into a party bus or haul my posse around penn state. plus these old detroit diesels got the best sound out of any bus. screw what the epa says.

    9700s and other PBL buses are in the process of getting retired. The MCIs are there because Eastchester is not only a storage facility, it is also a depot that does express Bronx runs.

    @BXM4C That yard is the Varsity School Bus Yard (former Command Storage Yard) and there are 2 Command Fishbowls, Jamaica Buses Fishbowl 3001, Green Bus Lines 1979 RTS 03 1012, and 2 Command 1984 RTS's 351 and 354. I don't know of anymore buses there. The Command Bus Depot is now called MTA Spring Creek Depot but I don't think MTA owns the Varsity Yard. Those buses at that yard are owned by Jerome Cooper I think.

    i miss the RTS models,those pill shaped busses were cool ,daewoo made a variant of it in korea in the late 80's~90's,many are still working, most of these busses could be overhauled or sold complete to other buyers or foreigen transit systems,some of these busses still rollin in mexico on their retirement :P

    What a shame to see all those buses go bye-bye. I liked the RTS CNG, and TMC models

    That does look pretty cool on that TMC. I used Windows Movie maker, I added the pictures and stuff, then selected transitions and effects from a drop down menu on top of content you can bring up, and dragged it to different slides.

    In Toronto, Montreal, Hamilton, Canadian transit systems it is 18 years old. They so a much better job of preventive maintnance, paving streets, rebuilds.

    I just learned a bus's lifespan is only 12yrs! So it was their scrapping time from 1980-1993 they were delivered.....

    The Green Lines RTS 03's retired in 2000 due to Green Lines taking 7 Queens Surface TMC RTS known as 1143-1149 in GBL and 6 Queens Surface Orion V (ex-WMATA rejects) known as 5545-5550 in GBL.

  • @QueensBuses

    Yeah. CNG RTSs were awesome.

  • @QueensBuses
    @QueensBuses  16 лет назад +2

    Well it depends on the model. The RTS-04 did a good (about) 20 years. The CNG RTS was about 12 years. The Orion V is going for about 14 now (the 1993s are). 1991 TMCs are running strong for MTA, going on 19 years, and NYCTA has a few. It really depends though.

    They could of converted them to diesal. the ttc does the same thing. They do not replace the cng tanks, but they convert them to diesal.

  • @23145567
    @23145567 15 лет назад +2

    The reason why the RTS CNG's got retired is because the CNG tanks must be replaced every 12 years. I guess the MTA didn't think it was fesible to give them new CNG tanks so they got retired.....

    #270: we have those here in Puerto Rico. Bad buses. Transmission problems, electrical problems!
    7409 : Old New York Express Bus Service Bus, are those still in service or ??? I would love to purchase one and set it to work down here. A few old NY buses are being used as party buses and limos!

    THose CNG RTS' were off the hook!!! Loved the tranny's on them. Does anyone have any idea why they were scrapped but they kept those POS 8000 series RTS'? Does anyone have any pics or sounds of the 1981 series RTS that were remanufactured? (7000 series)

    Sadly most of these busses are gone

  • @gmcbuses
    @gmcbuses 14 лет назад +1

    That is exactly true. The Fishbowl buses would of ran till 1999, if not for the EPAs stupid local law. The GMs Rtses would still be running. Mass Transit is not the problem, it is the solution.

    lol , the subway reminds me of "bowel movement' anyway! but it was much worse 25 years ago !,canal street station looked like a huge urinal with lakes of piss on the floor between the passageway, a occasional 'sleeping dog' turd could be found down there too :P
