First held in 1984 as an offshoot of the carnival in the Caribbean. The Summer Carnival Street Parade in Rotterdam, The Netherlands has remained true to its Caribbean roots, bringing a spirit of diversity to Rotterdam.

When the Rotterdam Summer Carnival first started, around 1.500 people attended the Caribbean festival. Today it attracts hundreds of thousands visitors to Rotterdam, and continues to grow in popularity.
