Let's learn a few words from this clip I hope you learned something new 😊 We'd really appreciate it if you could share these videos and give us a follow❤
There's a good scene in House where he's calling various people for whatever reason and for one of them he does a bad English accent. Wild to me that he's ACTUALLY English, playing an American, impersonating a bad English accent 😂
And then here I am. English is my second language and it was very helpful😂 cos that is a word I don't hear often. And nephrology is clear as class. For some reason. Idk where and when I learned that. But I am really into medicine
My old GP was very similar to the House character. He would get the gist of it, interrupt you, then leave the room without saying bye or anything. It was very strange, but the guy knew his stuff.
Hugh Laurie is a true Renaissance man. Graduated Cambridge University in archaeology and anthropology. Was on the Cambridge rowing team (a big deal) and training for the Olympics (had a gland disease and had to stop). Has written a best selling novel. Plays multiple musical instruments and has released two gold/platinum selling albums (jazz on the Warner label). With Stephen Fry and Rowan Atkinson made two of the most enduring comedy series ever, and in drama was the highest paid TV actor for House. The man can do it all.
For me it was the other way around, I’m German and I grew up with Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie (a tv channel showed both in English when I was younger) and I was shocked when I first heard his American accent. That accent just didn’t sound right to my ears.
If Hugh Laurie was a real trickster he should have never revealed his British accent, then ever now and again been like "hey, check out this British accent I can do" and nobody would have ever known.
Well, he was already famous here in the UK beforehand so that would have been known and it’s known that he was born in the UK. But interestingly, he did keep his American accent when in the States. Stephen Fry told a story about meeting him in America when he was filming House MD and when they met up for dinner, he kept his accent American because it helped him when he needed to do it for the show even though Fry told him to stop it.
I love Hugh Laurie in House. I am watching the series right now and the show has been over for 12 years. I never got into it when it started 20 years ago. Absolutely love this series! It is brilliant! ❤😊
Have you not seen his previous stuff, mainly comedy, daft British comedy with Steve Fry, Rowen Atkinson (mr been). It's worth a watch, but I do know how it carries to an overseas audience.
Never caught it yrs sgo but one cold wknd I stumbled into HOUSE and watched 38 hrs non-stop ❤😊. Incredible intensity and then a gr8 laugh, then moreso.. Totally Awesome Hugh 😮😊
My first neurologist was basically a female version of House. Loved her. She was pure black and white, if you did what she told you then she was nice, if not you saw her angry side. She's the reason I got my tubes tied (I'm on meds that cause fatal foetal abnormalities) and called up a friend hers who was a throat specialist when I got a virus that coated the inside of my mouth and my oesophagus with ulcers, making it impossible to eat or drink. My gp prescribed antibiotics the size of horse tranquillisers 🙄 the throat doctor sorted me out though
He’s been on our TV a lot lot longer, what’s weird is why your country insists on a US accent 99 times out of 100 no matter where the actor is from & not just English generally.
@@haynesy1476A lot of us, even here in America, watched him on shows like Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster. I’m surprised so many people didn’t know of him before.
I actually watching House since yesterday 😂 So still in season 1, but few months back I was like:"What? Why don't you have that on your shelf?? You need that!" So, I bought it and I am enjoying it. Crazy enough...it pushed me to go for a medical job. Which actually happened. I was thinking I was not good enough to do anything like it. Cos...the knowledge you acquired for anything around patients... it's a lot. But somehow turns out. I was a lot better at that, than ANY subject at school including biology 😂 So, yeah...It gave me the last push to go and try it.❤
@@somerandomguy2073well now I feel like a dick about my comments because I'm like I would have liked to know what a nephrologist does rather than hear what alleviating means, but I would have never taken the time to skim through the channel to make sure if it was a English as a second language channel lol
Just yesterday a friend was telling me about Hugh's band & talking with him after a performance, saying what a nice guy & down to earth man. So, he's making people happy on more than one front!
Binged watched all the series last Autumn, loved this. The characters were fantastic especially the complex House. Laurie is a talented actor, made me go from being sympathetic to totally disliking him. I'm used to his British accent but he seemed so comfortable being American, convinced me anyway.
No nephrologist would have your sense of humor and your grasp of the ironic!! Your depiction of the effed medical corporate world on screen was so prescient -- and it was my first introduction to a system I would later need to learn to negotiate! Thank you, sir!!❤
It's amazing how much time has passed. I remember watching this show from the beginning, sometimes with my mother, sometimes with other family members. In different states. People have passed they were alive when I first watched this show with them.… It was a great show.
This video is a beautiful micro-example of the cultural stereotypes too, the American braggadocio never takes long to seep through, and the British self effacement acts as a perfect foil

This really caught me off guard lol. What is the target audience for this short? People who know what a nephrologist is, but not the word alleviate? Wonder if this is a creation of AI :D
@@kiverismusic people who like Hugh Laurie and/or House, I would imagine? He does such a convincing American accent his real accent sounds like he's doing an accent
Only if you were not aware of him before House. He was pretty well known in Britain and some other Commonwealth countries well before House.
He's actually a one-half of an iconic comedy duo, "Fry & Laurie."
