I've been looking for a 10.3" upgrade to my Boox Nova Air 1. I read a lot of PDF scans of old books and I love my Nova but the 7.8" screen is just a tad too small for doing that comfortably. I love the pale grey aesthetics of the Nova as I don't enjoy reading or note taking on devices with visually heavy black frames. So I was really excited about the Go... I just *wish* it had a frontlight. I won't be able to use it at night as I read in the dark while my husband is sleeping. Such a shame. I understand why they did it but honestly my Nova Air is a great reading/writing experience even with the little bit of distance between the writing and the screen. I think they have just tried to copy the Remarkable without really thinking about how they could appeal to more users. Also, I wasn't so impressed by reviews Ive seen about latency, I've heard there is some intermittent lag but they might have solved that with updates now.

Thank you for your brief review. I just wonder why you think it's not suitable for note taking during class? It's the main reason why I stuck with the Boox system and I bought this to replace my 4-year-old faithful Note Air. The Go 10.3 is snappier and has a phantastic note app. It is complex with a learning curve but offers me a lot more than the reMarkable 2 did. Only Supernote has a note app that is comparable in its usability for me, with the star tags, keywords and TOC capability, though I still seem to prefer the Boox for writing.
Also it may not offer a micro SD card but you can use a USB-C stick instead, along with the other file transfer options.
However, I do find there is more ghosting on the Go compared to the Note Air 1. Not sure why and I hope future firmware updates will tackle that. It's not enough though to deter me from it.

I agree. The bit about note taking on this review is well off the mark.

Fantastic review, exactly what I needed to know. I'll stick with my reMarkable2 for now, amazing this 4 year old piece of tech is still unmatched in the most important ways. As for book reading, lack of a front light is disappointing.

I can't approve of RMs subscription model. I don't want to to pay a subscription for basic functionality. But I agree about the frontlight.

I think you emphasized too much on the E reading section of this device. It is not its primary use, that is of note taking.

The Boox device has two major problems: 1) it's been programmed to "phone home" to Beijing, potentially sending all your work into a big data collection center which can then be analyzed for its content and linked to the user, for better or for worse; 2) there is no discernible way to transfer your - often confidential work - onto an external SD card or USB-C thumb drive. Those two aspects are simply deal-breakers for many.

I mean you could just not enable the WiFi connection if you're only using the device for note-taking. I side load all of my books via hookup to my computer which is the same way I get my notes off my device. Would prefer to have an SD slot though.

@@BanjoPixelSnack We ended up returning the Boox for the reasons mentioned above. The hardware itself is wonderful! When we attached an OTG thumb drive and then SD card, the device recognized both, BUT, there was no way via software to transfer our work, much of which is confidential, onto the thumb drives or SD cards even though both showed up and were recognized. THAT is a major flaw.

As opposite to Google which would never collect data and use it.

Stopped watching this review at the point he said “I can overlook the touchy-feely aspects of a product because they don’t matter”!?

But he then said - but when it comes to devices like e-readers you cannot do that :)
