You don't have to worry about the RAM. It loses everything as soon as you turn the PC off. You should replace all SSDs and HDDs entirely. You're good for sure after that, the attacker was not sophisticated and even this is likely overkill.

After a fresh install of windows on a new drive, you can safely mount the old drives as d: e: etc and copy whatever you need from them, but stick to safe stuff like documents and scan them with an antivirus. Config files from OBS, etc. should be totally safe, they're not executable just data.

Just so you know, RAM is what's called "volatile memory," which means it cannot store data without power, so there is not a way for your RAM sticks to be hacked in such a way that the hack would persist after removing them and transferring them to a new setup. RAM sticks are completely wiped within just a few seconds after each time you power off your computer, so they are completely safe to use in a new computer setup.

This. For the past couple of months I got hacked not in the game but my bank which luckily I fixed and got refunded by the bank but still quite stressful and annoying to deal with. (And I am legit extremely careful on my online spending.)

It makes a lot of sense to me. A huge part of college is social networking. Person who makes video games is going to want more exposure on their game. They happen to know someone who has a platform for video games. Seems like it would be a very natural series of events, if the person were actually their self.

Exactly social engineering situations is one of the most common ways people get hacked. People's lives are often more public than they tend to realize especially a content creator who life streams and probably divulges very basic info on the regular.

Typical scammers can't even string a basic English sentence together
Remove the drive from the infected computer.
Get the adapter to plug it into your other computer like an external drive.
Do a Low Level format on it.
This will remove any virus on the drive, including in the mbr/boot sector.
Doubt the clown did anything to the BIOS, put the sdd back in the comp and install your operating system back on it. Should be good to go. If you're worried about the BIOS, you can flash the BIOS with a thumb drive with the latest BIOS download from the manufacturer website.

I had my discord nuked the same way. A friend's account was hacked and said they were working on a game, and this particular friend was going nowhere in life so I was just glad they were putting their mind to something for once. It sucks because I legitimately have tested games twice before for friends on discord, so it sucks that it went wrong this time.

all i did was deleting all files made at that time and removing all malware viruses on the computer basically remove any suspicious applications from auto start and change every passwords. and you are good to go because it happened to me aswell :> its good to see im not the only one

My unsolicited advice: DBAN the drives. Re-flash your BIOS. Turn on and set up 2FA wherever you can. Obtain and use a hardware key like a yubikey where possible for an added layer. Switch to using email aliases for your accounts so you can see what they are targeting because they probably still are. Alert your friends since they had full access to your PC and are probably going after them now and will sell your info if they decide to give up. Also obviously, your old classmate might want to know they are owned. This seems like targeted spear phishing so they probably went through her stuff thoroughly.

The Severity of the situation could’ve extended way beyond the point of just getting hacked. They had full access to your accounts, and could legitimately “Dr Disrespected” you - if they wanted to, so PLEASE be careful to never give your information out online.
Make sure you get plenty of rest. I speak from experience when I say shit like this can happen to anybody. It’s the smartest of people that fall for it when we’re at our lowest. Either mentally physically or emotionally. People like this take advantage of people who practice Internet safety when their guard is down and they ran really thin. don’t feel bad about what happened because like I said, it happens to the best of us. I am glad that all of your things are safe. This is just a reminder to be extra cautious, I guess. Lol
You sometimes forget how much you have until you start losing it.
If you've reformated the ssd that had the OS on it, you should be fine. If you left it offline, you could manually remove the remote application, but it's safer to just reformat and reinstall.
The reason he felt confident it didnt matter if you changed your passwords was because he assumed he still had remote access into your pc and browser. Even if you changed the passwords on another device, they'd sync. He never needed to know your passwords, and probably never had them.
For anyone else who gets caught by this kind of hack, they can't do anything if the PC they have access to is offline. Shut down and disconnect ethernet. Then go to repair or reinstall while offline. They probably dont have your passwords, but you should change them anyway to be sure.
2fa is a pretty strong way to counteract this. Everyone be sure to go to your accounts and see if this can be enabled.
If you do an OS wipe you can wipe everything back to factory and itll also let you wipe the partitions off your hard drives also. Any phishing code would be wiped. Ram is volatile memory so it deletes as soon as your pc turns off/restarts. Just make sure you have your windows key when you do this.
Exact same thing happened to me on discord, hacker took my account from someone else they hacked on my friends list, and proceeded to try it with others on my friends list as well as charging for nitro boosts. i was initially a bit sketch about this "game they were making", but thought it had some legitimacy since it came from someone on my friends list

Completely new hardware isnt necessary.
Hacking ram memory can only be temporary, in order to access user data and such while the pc is powered on. That is because when you power off the machine, ram loses all its content.
Wiping storage by formatting all the drives is a good idea. Im fairly certain that would get rid of any lingering malicious stuff although i could be wrong somebody please correct me.
This a textbook example of a phishing scam. Those programs usually arent sophisticated enough to "hack hardware" especially if they target individual people.

Yeah this exact same thing happened to me last year, these guys are full blown idiots btw. It’s actually really scary though, but literally changing access info for anything kicks them off. I also completely swapped my hard drives and everything, real pain in the ass man feel for you I was right there with you last April.

lol, I did the same thing, same scam and everything, I went to a game college so it made sense. I was so upset, luckily I was fast and none of my friends got hacked. Discord team was able to get my account back shortly after.

I thought that would of been your first major flag to "test out a game I'm working on". Even then, fair heads up if people do have this sort of thing happen to them, because it's happened to me.
If you download the file, you can go into the properties of the .exe and see any form of attachment or second .exe that attaches itself. Sometimes, you can even put it into winrar or a Hexeditor and see what's inside.
Stupid thing, but you've learned now, glad to see your accounts are fine.

@ElMigol_ I had a similar situation like Wallah. Mine was a Tale of Paper which had a 500MB file, it contained a Steam.exe Launcher and attached a Silent Runner called Rarerage.
Alot of these can be found in the comment section of properties. I made a video a while back, but otherwise, if it's too good, just ask.

i mean i had my hunter deleted, by what i asume was a trials hacker that got annoyed and logged into my account somehow and deleted my hunter, when i had a god roll adept horrors least, and my fav shotgun roll i have never seen again in 2 years still because its tied to dares and is not at all easy to farm,,, i contacted bungie about this and they kinda said "womp womp, gun is bye bye." its annoying how they just dont care if you lose your hard to earn stuff. i changed my password immediately after it happened, but the damage was already done..
also never got that horrors least roll again because they sunset ADEPT HORRORS LEASTS, F**K YOU BUNGIE, WAS A GOD ROLL. they could of deleted everything if they wanted, but just my hunter and a few god rolls.... but man let me tell ya, i didnt play d2 for like 3 months after that happened, and i was so annoyed with bungie for the lack of support for people that are effected by hackers (still am upset at bungie btw i dont think my view on them will ever change)
luckily he seemed like he was 14 and not the smartest guy, he could've easily changed all your passwords before you did when you were still in the dark about all that, atleast if email verfication is the only factor and you dont have 2FA enabled for that. since he had access to your computer like remote control he can just check your emails and everything. you were really lucky there!

crazy thing 2 weeks ago i got hacked the same exact way but he actually changed the password to my discord and main email and i ended up losing everything linked to those with microsoft refusing to help me get it back i actually lost everything
RAM can’t get hacked. Assuming your OS is installed on an SSD drive such as an NVME, just do a flash format which takes literally 5 seconds to completely wipe the drive. Reinstall Windows and you’re good to go. I doubt they infected your BIOS.
Don't worry about hardware, if you completely reinstalled os, I think everything is okay. Glad one of my favorite utubers is still okay hahah. So again it is a software issue, everything is fine, don't though away ur computer parts)

Thats the thing ab discord no matter what you dont download or even click on shit in a discord dm. Its more often that not a scam. Especially if you thought it was someone you knew, an actual phone call or text would be thw smarter decision.
