I suspect he dies in this one in some glorious heroic moment of sacrifice, which would be fine with me. Purely from a griping emotional storyline pov. This type of storytelling has been mostly, if not completely absent from feature films lately in my opinion. But I’m probably wrong anyway...

@Jon Doe > I think thats what you are thinking of. Yeap ... it seems like they have problems putting old hero into new script. Jet fighter practical training demands top age of 35 y.o., am I right? I wonder how old original Maverick will be nowadays, something like 60 y.o.? As to promotion of the officers in navy / military - your information looks fine to me, thanks!
Keep in mind...SCIENTOLOGIST. READ ABOUT WHAT THAT IS AND KEEP IT IN YOUR MIND WHILE WATCHING TOM THUMB IN THIS MOVIE. HAVING SAID THAT, YES I KNOW IT IS A MOVIE AND LOOKS AWESOME. I WILL WATCH IT. SAW THE 1ST ONE IN THEATERS WHEN I WAS 11 AND IT WAS GREAT. SO THIS ONE, with what filmmakers can do with technology now vs 1986...should be GREAT. BUT...SCIENTOLOGY? Really? Oh...I meant Tom Cruise..not Tom Thumb. Sorry. He's so short...my bad. Yes there's a tad bit of jealousy there...hahaha. He is a awesome actor...but SCIENTOLOGY??? See I can't quit ....
I saw the first Top Gun while I was training as a Nuclear Reactor Operator in Idaho Falls at the S1W prototype reactor. Yep, the very first one for the 575. I went on to serve on the USS Carl Vinson for 7 years. I loved putting my hands on the F14, F18, S6, A-7, EA-7 and EA-6B's in the hanger bay. 3 WestPacs and a PacEx. It was my pleasure to help move that big a** ship through the water, and generate steam to launch all those great aircraft. 35 years later, I still consider my experience as a once in a lifetime opportunity to serve. The best men and women the US has to offer. I think this will be a great film that showcases what it means to carry on tradition. My Dad was recently inducted in the French Legion of Honor for his heroism in liberating Alsace back up to the Rhine River in WW2. He inspired me, and I hope these films inspire a new generation of Americans to put their country first and become a member of a very exclusive club. My best to all Americans and God Bless.

When the original came out I was already in the Air Force at the time. We thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. The movie had everything in it. Beautiful girls, beaches, bars, fights, and jets, jets , jets. I hope this one lives up the hype. I get concern when they make a sequel and I see the same camera shots (i.e. volleyball match, the instructor introduction, the piano playing, the motorcycle, etc. I hope this isn't a bad attempt at just making Top Gun 1 all over again. The first one was great, make the second one great...but on it's own, not trying to live off the memories of the first.
I don't remember any fights in the original? I do remember Iceman always trying to get a rise out of Maverick though. The closest thing to a fight was Mavrick grabbing the pilot with the rising sun helmet+giving him a little jerk for ..."We had him man...we had him" Grab "I'll fire when I'm God damn good and ready, you got that?!!"
I wish everything comes back to normal so we can go to the cinema's and enjoy movies ... feel really sad for those who have lost their loved ones. Stay safe ....
I'll never forget - back when they were filming the First Top gun...Naval Air Station, Fallon , Nevada. Tom thinking his Stardom was gonna pass for getting him through the front gate one morning. My friend an MP - Munson, asked that he please return after recovering his ID and Base Pass. After a short fit , he left and returned with it. 👍 Man, that was a LONG LONG time ago !
So awesome that Tom Cruise insists on this kind of authenticity in the filming. CGI has been a cancer in the film industry. If you can't do it right don't do it. Can't wait to see this.
Never been a fan of CGI. If you want an animated film, make an animated film. Also have never liked the fake pulling backwards with cables when someone gets shot. It's just too unreal. I get that they're movies and some like the over-dramatic, but I prefer a little closer to authentic action/reaction in the physical stuff.
sidefx996 The 1st one didn’t use cgi either. They used models and actual fighter jet volunteers. In fact, here is a little back story. During filming of the first one, the Navy told them they could only fire 2 actual missiles, everything else was models. Their repeated use of model footage from different angles was so convincing the Navy contacted them yelling they were only allowed to use 2 actual missile. The production responded with “We know. We did. Those are model jets and missiles.”

Me too! I saw it for the first time about 6 months ago and I’ve watched it twice more since then. I hope they don’t have to postpone the release a third time due to the lockdown 🙄.
The most amazing and speedy movie ever made, believe me!!!! I was twelve years old that time!
The Movie is an icon. Tom Cruise an excellent actor. I do not like his Scientology bias. But I like what he does to me when being on the screen. One inspiring person for sure. My best wishes go out to all Americans fighting this pandemic. Stay strong and see you again on the big screen sometime soon. Greetings from good old Germany.

Too little too late!
I suspect he dies in this one in some glorious heroic moment of sacrifice, which would be fine with me. Purely from a griping emotional storyline pov. This type of storytelling has been mostly, if not completely absent from feature films lately in my opinion.
But I’m probably wrong anyway...

I get that they're movies and some like the over-dramatic, but I prefer a little closer to authentic action/reaction in the physical stuff.

The 1st one didn’t use cgi either.
