I only saw the F 14 once at an airshow and was blown away by its power and maneuverability. Wow!! What an airplane and I'm so jealous of those pilots experiences!!
OH HELL YEAH! USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74), USS Chosin (CG-65), USS Vandergrift (FFG-48), and of course the ultimate Navy aircraft, the McDonald Douglas F-14 Tomcat, still the sexiest of the Navy Aircraft.
Well, the Navy could have cleared the Tomcat for the AIM-120 AMRAAM( or Slammer) once they entered service, but no one saw the need an so the only actively tracking(Fox 3) missile the Cats had until the end was the Phoenix.

...with 6 Phoenix-missiles the F-14 was too heavy to land, so thesy had to dump them if not used...! ( a VERY expensive procedure...!!!) ...so they usually used a mix of Phoenix and Sidewinders...!

I remember visiting South Korea on the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) when their president visited our boat. We performed an airshow and the Tomcat performed a supersonic fly-by about 200 ft ASL and rocking the boat hard. It was BEAUTIFUL!!!

It is a true digital masterpiece, an evolution of a product, developed and perfected by people who are determined to achieve perfection!

The F-14 Tomcat is about 400 mph faster than the F/A-18 Super Hornet and F-35, making both of those planes very lacking in the speed department and ability to defend their aircraft carriers. There is now a big need for the F-14 Tomcat once again. Without the F-14 Tomcat, our aircraft carriers are at risk. Bring her back!

That is exactly what I heard from some Navy officials and former officials that F-14 especially the D version Super Tomcat or ever better, the AST-21 would have huge potential in today's day and age. The airframe was so ahead of its time, the potential was never realized because technology took too long to catch up to the airframe potential. AST-21 was the design that was going to bring together the technology to fully support the airframe potential.

Awesome video! Very well done. One of my biggest disappointments is that I never got to see a Tomcat fly in real life. I've seen super hornets, F-16s, plenty of old warbirds, even an F22 and B1 Lancer fly-by but until someone reverse engineers an F-14 to NAVY spec and does a demo at an airshow my life will not be complete.
Just WOW! pretty sure I heard the turbo sound effect from Airwolf at 4:55. Only disappointment was you didn't use the line in response to Maverick about to pull a Cobra maneuver .."You're gonna do WHAT?!"
With fighter planes, speed = life. With a fast plane, you can do things you can't do with other planes and that advantage is life saving. This is they key reason the F-14 Tomcat is such a great plane. I was watching this F-14 Tomcat video and it suddenly dawned on me why and how it can handle so well; with that twin tail/rudder design, the force of a turn being generated by the tail is twice what it would be for a single tailed plane. Combined with the amazing power and speed of the Tomcat, it could use its engines to help it turn faster! I have never, ever seen any other plane that can do this so well! My wonderful Mom was a flight instructor for the U.S. Army Air Corps. in WWII and she taught me to fly. With what I learned from her, I became the best fighter, "pilot", in the world in Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator out of 1.5 million other, "pilots", including many who really were actual professional fighter pilots. In my opinion, the F-14 Tomcat is the greatest plane to ever grace the skies. Period. No other plane can do what the Tomcat can do. I, "feel", this plane. To have that much speed and power at your command, is a huge game changer. You can do things you can't do in any other plane. Even enemy planes, if they try to get away, with the Tomcat's blazing 1,500 mph + speed, they can't get away! The Tomcat is an absolutely dominating plane thanks to its lighting speed! The Super Tomcat needs to be built. It exists in blueprints. I am writing a letter to Pres.Trump asking him to look into building the Super Tomcat. With the new long range anti-ship missiles now on the scene, the need for a long range, blazingly fast interceptor/fighter plane like the F-14 Tomcat to intercept enemy planes before they can fire those long range missiles at the aircraft carriers, has arisen.

@@neilr4867 I heard a podcast where Meagan Varney was a guest. She flew the F-14D Super Tomcat and then later transitioned to the F/A-18F Super Hornet. She joined the Navy just to fly the Tomcats. She all but said the Super Hornet was a big let down after the Tomcat. She said other than better technology, it had nothing on the Tomcat and that it was a let down performance wise after the Tomcat. Severely underpowered (compared to the massive thrust and speed of the Tomcat), very limited range, had very short legs, she said it could barely go supersonic in full slick/clean configuration and once you load the weapons on it, forget it. Tomcat could hit Mach 2.0+ with Phoenix rails, tanks and missiles. She described how F-14 felt like a rocket ship to the moon going vertical with the loud noise from the GE-F110 engines as it climbed straight up.

With fighter planes, speed = life. With a fast plane, you can do things you can't do with other planes and that advantage is life saving. This is they key reason the F-14 Tomcat is such a great plane. I was watching this F-14 Tomcat video and it suddenly dawned on me why and how it can handle so well; with that twin tail/rudder design, the force of a turn being generated by the tail is twice what it would be for a single tailed plane. Combined with the amazing power and speed of the Tomcat, it could use its engines to help it turn faster! I have never, ever seen any other plane that can do this so well! My wonderful Mom was a flight instructor for the U.S. Army Air Corps. in WWII and she taught me to fly. With what I learned from her, I became the best fighter, "pilot", in the world in Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator out of 1.5 million other, "pilots", including many who really were actual professional fighter pilots. In my opinion, the F-14 Tomcat is the greatest plane to ever grace the skies. Period. No other plane can do what the Tomcat can do. I, "feel", this plane. To have that much speed and power at your command, is a huge game changer. You can do things you can't do in any other plane. Even enemy planes, if they try to get away, with the Tomcat's blazing 1,500 mph + speed, they can't get away! The Tomcat is an absolutely dominating plane thanks to its lighting speed! The Super Tomcat needs to be built. It exists in blueprints. I am writing a letter to Pres.Trump asking him to look into building the Super Tomcat. With the new long range anti-ship missiles now on the scene, the need for a long range, blazingly fast interceptor/fighter plane like the F-14 Tomcat to intercept enemy planes before they can fire those long range missiles at the aircraft carriers, has arisen.
Grumman was bought out in a hostile takeover by Northrup, which is now Northrup-Grumman. The F-14 Super Tomcat 21 does exist in blueprints and it needs to be built! @@neilr4867 I heard a podcast where Meagan Varney was a guest. She flew the F-14D Super Tomcat and then later transitioned to the F/A-18F Super Hornet. She joined the Navy just to fly the Tomcats. She all but said the Super Hornet was a big let down after the Tomcat. She said other than better technology, it had nothing on the Tomcat and that it was a let down performance wise after the Tomcat. Severely underpowered (compared to the massive thrust and speed of the Tomcat), very limited range, had very short legs, she said it could barely go supersonic in full slick/clean configuration and once you load the weapons on it, forget it. Tomcat could hit Mach 2.0+ with Phoenix rails, tanks and missiles. She described how F-14 felt like a rocket ship to the moon going vertical with the loud noise from the GE-F110 engines as it climbed straight up.
