They got the art and tone perfect :) It's set in a "retro future" *alternative* history, where things diverged around 1950, microelectronics weren't developed until about a century from our timeline, but instead they went in to civilian nuclear power tech beyond ours, and culture sort of stayed around 50's/60s hence the music. It's also very snarky and full of dark humour, lol.. Tragedy and the consequences of the abuses of power etc are also a big part of it. "Vault Boy" is the name of the iconic cartoon character of the series ;)
Thumb up guy is called vault boy, he actually watches his thumb against nuclear blast cloud - if it covers the cloud, he should be safe, if not, he is too close (in radiation zone). Dog´s name is Dogmeat, he was companion in the game (often triggering traps when you did not want to).
That is very true, and the trailer successfully portrayed it. We just went in with a healthy dose of skepticism and were pleasantly surprised. This looks very promising.
Goggins is playing a prewar ghoul, a ghoul being a very heavily radiated human that has mutated, there are two types of ghouls, ferral and prewar, ferral ghouls as the name suggests are driven by their id bc that is all that is left of their psyche and aew basically "radiation zombies" if we give it an equivalency, and prewar ghouls somehow maintained their personality despite the massive radiation dose and mutations, and we say prewar bc they have been alive that long, we even see prewar Goggins' character on his horse at the end of the trailer as the bombs are going off.
I've played all of the Fallout games on release since the first one (except FO76; I'm not an MMO person) - it was basically a spiritual successor to wasteland, which I played to death on my Commodor, and they've totally nailed the tone. I was leery, but I think they're nailing the tone.

You should try 76. It is a good game and you can play it solo. Other players around you are just helpful fellow wastelanders having their own adventures around and occasionally joining massive server battles against wasteland monsters. It is a unique experience but undoubtedly Fallout in every aspect.
I played Fallout 3 and 4 and I have to say the trailer looks very promising I am so bloody hyped 😁, I simply can't wait for the series 😭. Ella Purnell also voiced Jinx in Arcane and did a absolute fantastic job.
Actually Fallout came from Wasteland and Tim Cain and back then his Studio was called interplay eventually obsidian. It got bad by Microsoft along with Bethesda. And Tim only wrote for like say the California area therefore that is why you're having a movie probably set in California
War... War never changes... Seeing ppl confused about what is going on that have no connection to the video games but are still very interested is pretty cool... Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 4 vet with over 1,100 hrs in Fallout 4... this universe has SOOOOOOO much lore and stories, and every area was affected and survives differently so things are fresh with every story, welcome to the wasteland gentlemen...
Fallout franchise is so unique and cool. Post apocalyptic with a little bit of fantasy, dark humor and 50s flavors. This trailer is superb. I suggest you to play Fallout on pc with all the improvements mods

I suggest Fallout New Vegas.
Play 3 then Vegas after that you have to play fallout 4. Never touch 76
