Which side had the better cries?
Sword and shield
Gen 1
sword and shield
I've not had the opportunity to play the newer games on switch and other platforms so this was interesting to me, I'd say most of the older are preferred to me, same as the art too :/ the 3d models don't seem that good.
gen 6-8, sounds less muffled and more _C R I S P_
Every pokemon: *Higher quality versions of their original sound*
Pikachu: PiKacHu
Raichu too. It sounds so awfull
Raichu sounds weird to me, but not terribly awful
imo they need an option in modern pokemon games to toggle name-saying
exactly why do Raichu like that
PiKaChU
Gen 1 Pikachu: *Electronic sounds*
Gen 8 Pikachu: PIKACHU!
That one caught me off guard.
That was so weird how it sounds.
It's actually recycle from Gen 6 and 7. He has a separate faint sound (Pika...)
it's actually like this
Pika CHuuuu
Gen 8 electabuzz sounds even more electric
I like how they added something to make some of the cries a little more resembling to the creature it represents
Like Meowth and Golduck or Raichu getting some electric noise
Some fire pokemon with fire sounds too
Yeah, it sort of feels like what the original was trying to emulate, or how we imagined they sounded like in our heads as kids. I really like what they did with them.
I love the rock mons getting crumbling rock sounds
The best is ekans with the rattlesnake rattle, completely unique.
I do miss Raichu's (and Infernape's) "rageful" cries.
It's kinda funny how the starters just got progressively more low pitched
Then Pikachu and Eevee learned English for no reason other than to flex
@@Wings_Of_Nightfall English Pikachu: I sleep
Eevee noises?: REAL SHIT
In fact there a4e only like 15 cries in 1st gen, but they were changed pokemon to pokemon ._.
Nidoran (M) goes higher pitched, and the "enhanced" cries from SwSh are recycled from XY, ORAS, SM and USUM
@@FigureFarter Yeah, literally anything that existed in a previous title is suddenly the "only thing that'll cut it" to Nintendo with Pokemon.
I love how it falls into a rhythm of the Gen 8 cries basically sounding like echoes of the Gen 1 cries, and then along comes Pikachu at 0:55
I guess it's because his or her voice from the cartoons is too iconic
Pikachu had to ruin it :/
OMG I died XDDD
And you can even hear Raichu’s zapping more than just its actual cry at 0:57
Scarlet and Violet reverted it to the original one
i really appreciate the little fire, water, electric and rock sounds you can hear in the background of some cries, it’s a nice touch
I love how you can hear a rock cracking for golem's gen 8 cry
@Qwerty yeah my bad its probably just the newer gen cries
@Qwerty Golem will be in BDSP tho
I miss the old Raichu...
I like the new one, the electrical sounds add so much !
New one is far better
Now you can hear it's electric
newer is better to me
Same the new one feels off.
Don't attack me
But imma be honest I feel like the people who dislike Raichu's new sound are just gen 1ers who automatically hate everything the new games have, no matter what it is
I'm glad they changed Charizard's cry. Now it sounds amazing and not like a Rhyhorn
Rhyhorn sounded like Charizard let’s be real. Charizard’s old cry matched his previous forms better.
@@CEDL0W rhyhorn probs got it first tho, since it's one of the first pokemon
@@eltonmateusnevesneves I think that was actually rhydon. Rhyhorn could’ve came later but again I’m not certain
Lmao
Nah, for me the Charizard cry is classic.
Serious i cant hear the fire red opening withou the charizar cry im sequence
This...uses Gen 3 cries and Gen 6 cries as comparison. That would normally be fine, especially since some Kanto Pokemon don’t exist in Sword and Shield and all the cries except Eevee’s have not changed since Gen 6, but the title is misleading and causes it to be made even more inaccurate as it still uses Eevee’s old cry.
The way I can tell it’s Gen 3 cries and not Gen 1 cries is the fact that they’re more upscaled due to a lack of Game Boy limitation AND that Haunter’s cry is not its original cry, as it was changed in all three generations, keeping its Gen 3 cry in Gen 4 and 5 and then given a new cry based on the Gen 1 original in Gen 6.
Lads we have a true legendary in our midst. What a spot!!!
Maybe He's Using Fire Red And Left Green
And the thumbnail for this video says "Gen1 VS Gen8", despite using the wrong graphics for both. Not even trying to be a stickler, was just really confused seeing a 'Gen1 comparison' depicting Gen4 sprites etc. Either this channel very loosely knows the subject, or just rushes out their videos.
They don't even use the right 3d models
Dawg ain’t that deep lmao
0:29 the modern version of weedle vaguely sounds like "we are young"
ruclips.net/video/Jiupj4PyL4U/видео.html
@@cisreal570 amazing lol
Isn’t Eevee’s cry “Eva” in SwSh? I’m pretty sure its not the electronic cry it had back in gen 1 but it works i guess lol
In Let’s Go Eevee! and beyond, it’s cry is “Eva”
But this video used the Gen 6 cries as Pikachu had a different cry in each generation past 6
And this video showed every Kanto Pokémon, including the ones you CANNOT transfer to Sword and Shield from HOME. This video is inaccurate.
@@SeanWheeler100 yeah, pretty much
@@SeanWheeler100 I guess it was done for the views
yea this video is more Gen 1 vs Gen 6. I think this is when they remade all the cries on 3DS. The video title is innacurate af
1:33 oddish look so depressive in Gen 1 😂
:/
._.
That's not gen 1. That's its sprite from FireRed and LeafGreen so that would be gen 3... Gen 1 games weren't even in colors yet. I feel old now that people can't even remember how the old games look 😢
@@dundee6402 sorry I'm not a pro in Pokémon but thanks.
When I first heard the updated cries in X and Y, I was reminded of Pokemon Stadium and how it did something similar.
I appreciate how they made some of the more similar-sounding cries more distinct, like Vileplume and Aerodactyl.
Imo Stadium did it way better
1:29 gives anyone who has played a Pokémon game cave flashbacks.
I never played a Pokémon game...
ABSOLUTELY I REMEMBER THIS CRY THE MOST AND AAAAAAAAA
Doesn’t Eevee now also use its anime cry?
Just in lets go
@@JuanAlvarez-pc7ws No, it uses it in Sword and Shield as well.
"Eevui", is what it says. Both generically, Dynamaxed, AND Gigantamaxed.
@@raymaikerutrue
I always loved that electronic buzz noise at the end of half of the gen 1 cries, it's so cool sounding and otherworldly
0:55
Gen 1: Sounds like the other Pokémon
Gen 8: pIkAcHu
0:57 Gen 1: every game crash
Gen 6: me when i put water on my laptop
Tbf when I watched the anime first before the games so I was a bit disappointed but ngl now that I'm older I can see why Pikachu being the only saying its own name (except probably Eevee) as a problem.
Gen 9: Same as Gen 1-5
I love how they kept some of the 8 bit sounds in their cries, sometimes It's obvious, sometimes your need earphones, but still, i like that they kept the sounds 😊
Thats Not 8 Bit ist 16 Bit
Oh wonder I can’t tell the Pokémon by their cry’s as well as I used to. For years I knew all the first 4 gen Pokémon by their cry’s but now I can’t do it as well. Some of them changed a lot.
How did I not notice that they've changed cries until now? I've played the old games and heard the old cries, I just didn't think they were different to the originals
Cause you're an avocado?
@@Staraptor19lmao
nostalgia blindness lol
Because they’re basically the same cries with tweaked pitches
Pikachu:
1st gen: kvxlxzxKZJL
8th gen: PIKACHU
One thing I appreciate they added to the cries are the elemental sound effects, like the splash sounds for the water pokemon and the static sounds for the electric pokemon
They did a really good job of remastering the cries, and adding enough to make it sound cooler
Pikachu:
Nah, the originals will always be better, I will never forgive what they did to the first generation.
@@ChileFut2023as someone that grew up with gen 3-5 id say the new ones dont miss at all. Except them missing on just a few mons each gen tho.
@@ChileFut2023you are so wrong but i respect your not accurate opinion 👁️
1:45 I really like what gen 8 did with Parasects cry
I can't say I really like Raichu's new cry, it just sounds so weirdly different from the bold loud sound that it used to have.
1:59
Meowth's cry became more catlike
Isn't that what they wanted to achieve?
Anyone ever notice how Charizard kinda sounds like he has an electric guitar behind his battle cry?
5:25 that's Gen 7 eevee,it's supposed to say "evba" or "eevi!"
Eevui
The only Gen VIII game that does not have this cry is Sword & Shield, as as the other ones do.
@@Awesome_Dawson_Films_Official I kinda remember Sw&Sh having the "Ehbbai" cry 'cuz it came after let's go, but I commented that 3 years ago (the heck), and I'm a bit lazy ti verify in Sword again, so we are both right? or wrong?
3:47 I think Drowsee-Hypno got the best upgrades
Drowzee (my favourite of all time) got upgraded, while for Hypno was better the original cry in my opinion
cloyster? ninetales?
0:45 Spearow Fearow
1:44 What the HELL did they do to my boy Parasect?!
Made him more distinguishable from Mewtwo
@@derpycats8072 they're pretty distinct I think, ones a humanoid cat and the other's a bug with a mushroom on its back
@@alecrutz956The cries, man.
I sat here and watched the whole thing like a chat
I may have lost my hearing, but I still feel accomplished...in some way or another
Some sound almost exactly like the older ones while a few sound better and others... questionable.
I like the gba sounds more, they sound a lot more clear to me
Those are the original Gameboy cries. Not sure why they decided to present the cries in this video using gba assets.
@@Tuukkis No they're not, these are the gen 3 cries. So, GBA
It's just your Nostalgia bro
I do like how they gave the fire types and electric types fire and electric sounds respectfully.
Clefairy crie is pippi which is their Japanese name, i find it cute 1:16
Pretty much the German name as well (Piepi)
I will always prefer the nostalgia from those old cries :')
I agree, I kinda don’t like how the new ones sound like over kill, idk how to describe, just doesn’t feel like the original
@@riggsvsoliver ever since xy started they ruined the cry sounds, sprites
@@riggsvsoliveruhh....
The crys sound so much better idk what chall talking about. Especially the fire having the sound of the flames and other cools things
@@m1dn1ghtqt Yeah .. so when you're on fire your screams also make a flaming sound? I know Pokémon isn't realistic, but c'mon...
1:38 Gen 1 Vileplume: *Broken*
Gen 8 Vileplume: *Scary Sound*
It's probably just me, but whenever I hear clefairy's cry I keep thinking it's saying "wheat thin"
The eevee's cry in actual games is as the anime. The same cry, it said it's name
That’s just in Let’s Go and Gen 8. The cry used was its Gen 6-7 cry.
@@blueeclipse395 the video clearly takes into account gen 8
@@clankouga this video is inaccurate. Pikachu had a different cry in Gen 6, 7 and 8
@@mastercobragaming8780 eevee too, in 7 (lets go) and 8 gen
Why use the inaccurate cries from Gen 6 when you could literally use the cries from Let’s Go, which uses Eevee’s new cry?
Or why use Gen 3 sprites and cries when they can actually use the original Gen 1 stuff? 🙄
Honesty, most of the Gen 8 cries sound bad to me. the change in pitch, added reverb, or the extra layer to the cries does good for some them, but makes the rest sound worse
Pikachu's cry was so weird. The first game it had its own cry until its cry became "Pikachu". LOL 😂.
Jynx is the most beautiful pokémon in the past 4:59
The cries were changed in gen 6
I DIDN'T KNOW THAT :D
Gen V is gonna see some butchered cries.
Gen 5?
They completely ruined Stoutland's and Druddigon's cries.
ngl nidoking scared the shit outta me
Same i used to be scared of Nidoking's cry, but not anymore
I actually loved the new Charizard cry because I'm just a guy who loves the sound of engines, but I will always love the classic cry of Charizard
The new cries sound like garbage
Okay, in all honesty, in the earlier gens and due to the anime not being a thing yet, I can understand the cries. But today? Is there any reason why they can't do the same for every Pokemon like Pikachu?
not all the pokemon in the anime say their names, some neigh, others make various noises, some have been exclusively shown talking like humans (including half the legends).
That would be A LOT of work since not every name is the same in every language. And knowing how much GF knows (or not knows in this case) about data management, that would take a lot of space.
@@elegant_lilligant on the bright side, they'd have an excuse for shitty everything
You are right, they should make the pokemon speak or say another cry
That is awful
I don't know why but the old sounds are much more clear for me than the new ones
the new ones have so much extra distortion
Some of the newer cries sound like they're trying to break the speakers.
So glad they changed Pikachu and Eevee’s voice back to their chiptune voice in Gen IX. They might be the mascots, but they shouldn’t break the continuity of the games because of it.
They really did raichu and a couple of others dirty with the new game cries
I love how the new animal like Pokémon ones sound like their IRL animal counterparts, while still keeping the classic sound pattern,
1:08 Lol its jaw XD
5:50 I like how Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres have ice, electric and fire sounds at the end of their cries
Doesn't seem to be much of a difference except for Pikachu.
Okay, wow, I do NOT remember Beedrill's updated cry sounding that intense.
where's missingno?
He not there
Unpopular opinion here. Not really a fan of the cries remaining like electronic/static noises on the later generations. I understand why it was the way it was on old generations or if the Pokemon itself could realistically sound like that(Magnemite, Magneton, Voltorb, etc.) but for it to remain that way until now when the graphics have greatly improve but the sounds/cries couldn't let go of the nostalgia. I mean, if I were to encounter a large dragon Pokemon I'd expect a thunderous roar not electronic screeches.
2:04 wawa
Raichu in gen 8: **ray stock sound**
Raichu in gen 1: *AAAAGH*
I honestly prefer the OG cries lol
Agreed
Why exactly? Not gonna start a fight on the internet, but the "new" cries sound way crispier than the old ones. Is it nostalgia?
@@ayakashisanji I think it’s cos I spent countless hours playing HG/SS/BW and BW2 that those just sound... right? And less reverb idk. I just like em
@@cheyanne2001 Ah I see, thanks for explaining :)
@@ayakashisanji Eh they change stuff too much og is better
So strange!!! Never realized how similar the cries of Paras/Parasect/Starmie/Mewtwo/Mew were until today!
seeing this for the first time and it's interesting to note the small changes some had where they added elements of what the pokémon is (like psyduck sounds more like quaking sound, some of the the electric pokémon has some of a electric hiss to their sounds and dugtrio has a bit of earth movement added )
I love how animal sounds were worked into the cries like farfetchd going quack or just loosely adapted altogether like raichu. The drill noise in beedrill is both terrifying and awesome. Oddish and Bellsprout appropriately sound like cousins. And parasect laughing man.
Edit: IS TANGELA SAYING “hello?”
The Updated cries for most Generation I and all Generation II Pokemon is pretty much a mashup of their original cries with their Pokemon Stadium counterparts.
Bro charizard’s new one HAS to go with Sweet Child ‘o Mine by Guns n Roses no doubt
In my opinion, the old ones are btter
New ones sound disgustang for me
It's honestly kind of a mixed bag. Legitimately the Gen 1 cries are consistently less ear grating, but there a number of Gen 6+ cries that sound better. Overall I prefer the originals, but sometime I should pick out some preferred ones from Gen 6+.
While some of the remastered ones sound better, personally I prefer the older ones. I just wish I could find remastered variants that remain faithful to the old cries
0:55 Cries Of The Legendary Pokémon Mascot; Pikachu.
Every single one of them have that muffled electric noise. It’s so loud and distracting to the point where I can’t distinguish the cries.
I hope you end up doing Gens 2, 3 and 4 as well!
I know it would be a pain but I wished they went forward with more realistic cries like the stadium games, the cries there were phenomenal
It's a much better choice honestly to do more realistic cries than this hot garbage of 1980s beeps and boops.
0:55
I think it’s really cool they went out of their way to make the cries feel more unique with the added effects to some cries- cause let’s be honest, a lot of Gen 1 cries are just the same. So it’s cool to see them evolved like this.
Jesus, a lot of the updated cries do not sound good at all. I can appreciate that they wanted to update them because of the transition by raising pitches and adding reverb to them, but a majority of them sound ear grating.
Raichu was so robbed in later generations it's not even funny.
I noticed they added flourishes that imitate the animal the pokemon is based on (quacks for Psyduck) and what type they are (swooshes for flying type). Makes them sound more like animals.
I absolutely hate the gen 8 cries they SUCK so bad
4:30 Imagine if Charizard had this for Gen 6-onwards instead.
I like the new charizard, plus differentiates the two better, but its all preference
Nah.
0:12 4:29 Oh look they sound the same
0:13 4:30 Never mind they were updated, Still sounds cool though
why do so many of updated cries have a weird warble effect like they're gargling a mouthful of worms, especially persian's
In: “Gotta catch a what?!” Female raichu should said its cry.
Female raichu voices/cry: chu!
I just love that screech at the end of Doduo and Dodrio's cries
I like how Pikachu was all like, "Drggha" and now it's all like, "Pikachu"
6:07 mewtwo G8
I kinda wish they remade them but with more focus on making them sound more animal like instead of on making them sound like they did on gen 1. Of course this would not apply to the ones who already sound good or matches the pokemon, like Drowzee and Hypno or Magnemite, but changing Charizard's sound to a full roar would be better.
Absolutely. They limited themselves too much by nostalgia. Many of these just sound awful. They might be better versions but they sound ridiculous for most of the animal-like Pokemon. Charizards shouldn't be making mechanical buzzing sounds like Magnemite.
Title: Gen 1 vs Gen 8
-Uses Gen 3 cries
-Uses Gen 3 background
-Uses Gen 4 sprites
-Uses Gen 6 cries
-Uses HOME models
The only thing Gen 8 about this is the background on the right
Misleading video. Not to mention most of these Pokémon can’t be transferred to SwSh
Old psyduck: pixelated noises
New psyduck: BWAH BWAH
Parece que los modificaron para que parascan más ruido de un animal normal o más como natural
Are not gonna talk about how the newer gen bedroll sounds like the meme version
3:35
R&B Gastly: oohhyyeec
Sw&Sh Gastly: OHH YEAAAH
Every other Pokémon: digital noises become cyberized animal noises
Pikachu: Computer noises become *“Pikachu”*
3:49 oh no not him
I love that beedrill's new cry sounds just like an angry wasp. I love the gen 8 cries
