  • Olympic Champion Koji MUROFUSHI is certainly a busy man and Athletics New Zealand was quite happy that he could be able to come for the 1st time to New Zealand and be , alongside American Don BABBITT, one of the key lecturers and presenters at the New Zealand throws conference from 13 to 15 November at the Millenium Institute Auckland . Every champion has something "special" and certainly Koji is somebody special with his friendly but strong personality and his "Japanese" Cultural approach of the hammer throw that he shared with the participants at this conference. This 17 minutes video is showing some of the most interesting moments and exercises during the practical sessions with all of the best local athletes as well as some initiation and coaching exercises proposed by Didier POPPE in a more classical approach of the event.

Ja, I know. For example, when you look at 12:48, this is now in Germany a rape because she had no consensus smile in her face! Hahahaha. I see athletes at my stadium, they only train sprints, 400m, hurdles.. and when it comes to javelin (few times a year) or discus, oh, it´s very pathetic throwing. In pole jump they nearly have the same results as in high jump.... pathetic too. Hammers need the safety net... you can imagine that nobody wants to do the extra work...

Very good video, thanks alot for it!!
When all the guys are doing the drills with that wooden stick, why is Koji like "touching" it on different spots in some certain positions? It looks like he is feeling the tension in the stick? And what is that "ninja drill" for? :-) Best RegardsChris

Koji is helping the athletes stabilize on the four points of balance needed for hammer throw. At around 12:37, Koji will just barely touch the athlete and she topples over.
