Well for me, the cellphone tray is very minor issue, doesn't matter to me it's not padded, or no room for charging cable, the car is pretty solid, very good chassis, superb road holding, luxurious comfort, it really is a fun car to drive. The CVT itself is a huge improvement over the initial version. The sound insulation has also improved. The additional active safety features (AEB, lane watch, blind spot monitoring) is good to have, but it's not the ultimate necessity for a car, what's most important is driving safety awareness, controlling emotion on the road, good attitude, good behaviour, no ill feeling, that's the most important thing, accidents will happen despite millions of safety gadgets if drivers are still self-centered and careless on the road.
The Proton's ride and handling feels like a more expensive car. I directly compared it with a 2018 Myvi and it just feels so much more planted and confident in taking corners. If Proton can keep the handling DNA and bring the next car up to the level of features the Myvi has, that will be good for the brand.
Kudos to the upgraded interior. Agreed that LED should go with all variant. Hope Proton watched and do something. Thanks Hafiz for the review. Proton does have the driver's confidence and fun driving than Perodua ☺️
why is it that when you guys talk about safety the passive safety systems like HPF is never mentioned for the Protons. Active safety systems gets all the mentions but those are just accident prevention tools, when you actually get into an actual accident that active safety systems cant avoid (and its usually those high speed ones) you'd want good passive safety and Proton has that.
Proton implement HPF in their cars since Preve era if not wrong. At the time it was head and shoulders above even some well known imported models in safety aspect, not to mention Perduo. However, looking at latest Aseanncap results, Myvi performed at least on par if not better than Iriz/ Persona. But there also seem no mention of HPF in Myvi too, so can anyone please enlighten how Myvi achieve such good ratings, if no HPF is used at all?
true 👍🏻 agree not a lot of reviewers mention that Proton focuses on the “Passive Safety Features” (after accidents). Tbh, it kinda makes me sad because they sort of making that Proton is not a good brand, only focus on looks than safety. Truth is they do focus on safety, it’s just passive safety features.
Despite the lack of AEB, I still feel like the strong frame that the Persona & Iriz have makes it a safer car. Honestly speaking, after using the x70 with all its safety features, i find it to be more distracting and in a way making me a less attentive driver. Perhaps I’m the kind of guy who likes a more mechanical interaction with a car.
The reason Iriz still drives better than the 2022 Myvi is because the Myvi still uses the variant of the chassis of the 2005 Myvi. Perodua has no capability to engineer any new chassis on their own, they have to take whatever chassis available to them donated by Daihatsu or Toyota. Other than a more stable high speed drive, the 2022 Myvi still crash over bumps like the first Myvi did back in 2005 (is the same chassis anyway). The Axia actually has a much sorted chassis compared to the Myvi.
I think more mature consumers might realize not everyone needs AEB. still think the Protons have a better safety package with their HPF construction. Also the ride and handling, seat comfort, driving position and so on make it a nicer driver's car with character.
Constructive criticism is always good, though may not go down well with everyone. Besides, I think I have seen proton-hating reviewer before, so I can tell the difference.
Proton didnt see the new myvi coming arent they? I dig the look on this Iriz especially the interior, but after watching this video I realize maybe I over expecting the Iriz. I didnt like the myvi but they really set the new standard this time around. The first time I saw the new face of the myvi reminds me of the face of the Aruz (The face of someone who about to sneeze) but from some angle it look pretty modern. Plus perodua has put a lot of money redeveloping this Myvi. Im pretty sure they feeling some pressure from proton with the launch of X50, Iriz active. Whatever it is, kudos to both proton and perodua. You have made us proud as a Malaysian.
This is a very good review by Hafiz on the Persona and Iriz models of the various sectors of its styling, engine performance, gearbox, comfort, tyres and safety features. Good work !
Finally. An honest review of the Persona and the Iriz. There has been too many reviews that only praises these cars but hardly anyone of them would like to talk about their weaknesses and compare them to the obvious close rivals Perodua.
It's amazing how despite being a 2014 car with improvements here & there, it still drives better than the newer Myvi's. However, they really need to ditch that old punch cvt, really ruins the otherwise great car. Pakai 4AT pun better 😂. Ps: that centre console reflection looks really annoying. Let's hope there's an aftermarket screen protector of sort that can reduce the glare.
I'd still prefer CVTs for efficient power delivery but maybe different type of them. Not the Punch unit. If torque converter auto maybe more than 4 speed might be ok.
To be honest, I prefer the CVT for in-town driving. Sure, sometimes it's a bit jerky when the clutch disengages but it's not every time but what I like is after the clutch disengages, there's no shift shock when you gradually accelerate (I'm comparing this to the 4AT on the Saga BLM & the old Honda 5ATs since I'm used to drive both). I think if Proton switch to a different vendor for their CVTs would be a good move, especially if they could use the D-CVT (which is not likely to happen) from the Perodua Ative bcoz manual mode FTW
Iriz already has bad fuel consumption. CVT helps to improve the fuel efficiency because it has better power delivery. Instead of going to the AT proton needs to focus on continuously refining the car and adding more features to bring it to Myvi's level. Pros and cons in the Iris vs Myvi
Having proton stick to the cvt and perodua following this trend shows how far ahead proton was. But the only obstacles that proton face is the Malaysian mindset of not educating themselves before making decisions or purchasings. They all follow the people around them or the media told them what to do. Weak
Perodua offers stable fuel consumption and reliability...myvi is hotcake since they also offer the good looks..these 2 protons might lack both but offers so much more in everything else
Nice review mr.shah ....agreed proton persona is a nice elegabt all rounder package...would be great if you could do a comparison video between the persona and the new myvi....as the new myvi has stepped up its game very much..
I just have a question to proton, how much longer the buyer need to wait for proton persona premium spec. Executive and standard spec easily to get car why only premium spec so hard to get the new car 😓
Definitely bro. People who signed since august didnt get their premium persona yet haha. Poor persona, promote their car while having production issue. Stupid
Still cannot go lah with the signal stick being on the left side. The older protons had them properly on the right and then they went and changed it. Also how is the iriz supposed to challenge the new facelift myvi with all its advanced features? Just with looks, arbitrary driving experience and a slightly cheaper pricetag?
I remember reading somewhere that the reason for that is because Proton needed to follow ISO standard which UK is using so that they can export there back then, instead of JIS (Japan) standard.
Gaji 3k sebulan. Tq
Hi Mr Hafriz, I am Ganesh, I have made my mind to order a persona, however the standard version of it. I would like to know is there a difference in terms of NVH between the variations of Persona? Just to know. Thank you.
I went for a test drive on the Persona Premium 2022. I enquired is there any issue with this car. SA mentioned the 40:60 opening compartment some have issues (noisy sound due to loose hook or something) which need to be adjust during servicing. Not all but some cars have this issue. And also proton have removed black roofing from the Persona premium which is a huge bummer for me. Still waiting for my car . 5th month now. :(
Proton with armrest suitable for single guy like you where your hand got no where to put but on the armrest , because myvi user busy putting their hand on their girlfriend’s thigh or holding hands. #justsaying
The difference between Proton with the other cars is only about the car weight are almost 1.2 tan .They should make a lighter car like the other brands so the car will be more responsive and fuel efficient. Other than that, they really need to provide more modern safety features like Perodua did such as blind spot monitor and others. Anyway, Good job proton and keep improving
As ironic as the Goodyears are "decent" for performance, they are never, ever refined. They have always been noisy and hard-riding. On the Myvi it gets so much louder later in ownership. However, a lot of reviews miss the point when it comes to Passive safety. These are things that the eyes can't see. To be honest the current trend of electronic safety nannies have created such terrible drivers never before seen in years of Malaysians driving. So maybe an intervention is definitely needed here in terms of the over-reliance of Active safety assists.
It’s because of the side impact rating! Some carmakers had to make the centre console not rigid otherwise they will receive less score on safety rating.
To be honest at first the new centre console look good from the photo but it doesn't when the console move with leg and the rear still look ugly. Compare new myvi Pros: handling, hpf, price Cons: resell value, aeb, after sales I think people will still choose myvi to be honest

Proton memang potong, how can they even assemble a car with such a wobbly center console like that? Pity to all the Malaysians that cannot afford better cars than these junk thanks to our useless tax structures....they deserve better
Actually I believe that feature is purposely designed to cushion the knee upon impact from side collision/crash, because the same 2021 Toyota Camry also moves. The high center console needs to be flexible, because it came into contact with our knee, the early Iriz with low center console is rigid though.
Totally useless for me, I bought Proton persona about few months bought the latest version, 1st I had gear box problem within 1month sent the car 3 times after settle that, now have new problem with the audio totally out,as in radio system n and for reverse audio all systems, after fixed 1 week ago and yesterday again same defect. Really pissed out..now I'm regretting buying this car, been giving me anxiety since I'm having all this problem.
there is no denying that Proton uses a red finishing on the iriz active interior much better compare with Perodua did on myvi advance hahaha
The red on myvi looks cheap
Absolutely,, the red seats in myvi advance looks like aftermarket leather cover seat.
Perodua slapped that red on myvi
Mcm designer intern ja yg design interior color utk myvi facelift tu 👀

Bought proton because of its ride and handling. And I got to admit, it struggles on the straight road but shine on the bends. 🙋♂️

Years later Daihatsu involved in safety scandal. Tin kosong cars in Malaysia are affected. Perodua cheated ncap tests

I would personally painted the black cladding on the iriz and lower it with aftermarket rims to give it a more wide body stance

The proton qc might overlook on the reflective screen which can reflect passenger chest area... Or are they😏
I hope you can do video of a review or walk around for your Iriz 1.3 Manual tho 😄

Why can't Proton can not support CarPlay?
