- Look who's back! Our old boy Adrian Chia is joining us in the 4th episode of our Drag Series, as we line up two of the latest 1L turbo models, and a naturally-aspirated 1.6L Proton Iriz on the KLIA runway. Which will be the first to cross the line at the 400m mark? The smaller 3-cylinder engines with forced-induction, or the heavier but bigger 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated block? Comment below!

Mine is a saga 1.3 cvt. When going out of a junction from standstill, seems like the engine is yelling the gearbox spirit from having a teh tarik at kedai mamak. STOP NGETEH CVT, WE ARE GOING OUT FROM A JUNCTION, COME HERE GET YOUR JOB DONE!
Each time the car standstill at a junction the spirit will say, NGETEH JAP, APA APA ROGER
And certain people said iriz takde pickup and ativa have pickup. Dont know if malaysian know what pickup means.
As the evergreen saying goes....there is no replacement to displacement....yeah baby..iriz deserves the win....jaguh kampung rocks...
even my cvt saga flx will always beat ativa and almera. those 2 built for efficency in mind.(is it really though? lol)
@@890705123 Agree that Iriz is the winner based on power, acceleration and speed compare to Ativa and Almera. Of course, Ativa can’t compare to Iriz and Almera as they are different categories and segment.
But not really at all. Even my words are not related to this video, but at least Almera and Ativa are good in terms of technology, features and more stylish. Moreover, CVT for both Almera and Ativa have good reliability and smoother. Now back to Iriz, it doesn’t mean that Iriz features are not good but since Iriz facelift just launched recently, it improves power including speed and acceleration compare to this video that uses previous facelift Iriz that launched in 2019, change to different type of Punch gearbox will lessen issues and improves reliability, facelift exterior design looks more sleeker, interior features are also good including additional features such as Digital Dual Air Cond and “Hi Proton”
@@esk4105 the new iriz is good ngl. But people seem hard to justified buying a old car(only facelift). I like what proton do to iriz,sadly it seem to late.
@@azriqhaikalazahari7148 But Iriz facelift is not that old, it is just new facelift. But Interior is really new which look fresh including dashboard too. Moreover, front design also look handsome and cleaner than previous Iriz facelift that launched 2019

Drag race is fun & exciting. But for normal cars, I prefer manual where you really communicate with your car!! Good effort bro!
I also love it as GC was backing the Iriz although he does not know what would be the outcome. While the others just down look the Iriz since the start, and even tried to still say the other cars are better by saying fuel consumption la, jaguh on its own la, etc. Just be proud of home grown car. Yeah, its old and less efficient, but still has its charm with better drive feel & cheapest to buy.
at least the other host from autobuzz admit he impress with iriz after he saw iriz going ahead. that adrian who drive ativa until end dont want to admit iriz is more better..
realized an iriz hatchback is heavier than an ativa "suv" , what the heck hahah prove already it doesn't deserve the suv name, we not talking abt aruz yet

Ativa use new casis and platform which is why the body is more sturdier and tougher than myvi milo body
@@arx117 Yes same engine. But the type of 1.0 toyota engine is quite different. Axia is 68hp without turbo while Ativa is 97hp with turbocharged engine.

Since there's none in the market a bolt on turbo kit for Iriz, I really want to see if there is anyone crazy enough to retrofitted the Iriz with the 1.6 CFE CamPro. It would be a cool project! Imagine the Iriz runs on the CFE engine 🤯
proton already ditch the cfe engine. 1.5 turbo from x50 will be use more

I'm just so SICK with Peroduas....drove the latest MyVi and I almost puked! Proton is always D' BEST Handling&Air Cond👍No Competition💯
That time, people buy Myvi than Iriz, because of reliability, more safety features and other features including all variants come with LED Headlamps and Tailights that Iriz lack, despite using Punch CVT but also good reliability but not as good as Myvi.
But since launching new facelift Iriz, reliability improves a lot since changing to different type of Punch Gearbox to lessen issues, using digital air cond, got “Hi Proton” and more detailed infortainment system, interior is quite new and exterior design is better compare to previous facelift Iriz 2019

I have the older iriz exec 1.6 in Sabah and taking it up Banjaran Crocker Kimanis Keningau road is no sweat. At D gear with 5 adults and full load it can overtake suv and pickup truck that is more than 2.0cc on the climb. Really powerful car. My in-laws thought it has turbo but it doesn't. The iriz now is going on its 6th year and showing its age but just a little.
I also have the x50 flagship in Sabah and kia sportage 2012 in semenanjung. Between the two the sportage i love a bit more. X50 the red dashboard aduh is yucky (wife like it) and proton signal and wiper switch side really not so nice. But proton fuel port on driver side i like.

Ativa+Adrian is the lightest yet it the slowest. I thought it going to be competetive between ativa and iriz.
You can feel the different when drive up hill..
Turbo is made to reduce the burden of a vehicle and also ends up giving small amount of extra HP, compared to NA engine. Iriz is 1.3, although ativa is turbo, it doesn't turns into a Skyline

Based on my experience for B segment car in term of handling.
Polo > fiesta > iriz/persona > city/jazz > vios > myvi

Can we have another old juara kampung? It may have lost its place in the line up but by putting it against those new c segment market, we can at least bring back its pride. I'm talking about Proton Suprima. For sure kalah one with new civic, Mazda 3 etc.. But it would be a great video to watch by many.
Looking at the spec sheet, 0-100 preve 9.6s, suprima 9.9s, compared to civic 8.2s, interesting to compare (new engine vs old engine cfe). I tried to potong civic at the highway using preve, civic couldn't catchup at high speed 😅

yg selalu dgr cvt kong utk proton ni model turbo mcm preve dgn exora.. iriz dgn persona jarang dgr cvt dorg kong.. tp rasanya yg model facelift ni dah ok cvt dia sbb proton dah tuning cvt tu utk lebih responsif so driver xperlu nak paksa cvt tu sgt...
I still remember a talk by Proton's engineer, when they introduced the engine for Preve turbo and the Iriz's. In comparison to the Waja's 1.6 engine (a Campro, as u know), they said that the engine block is different, the intake valves for the Preve is turboed, the Iriz is VVT'ed, as well as the output valves. I dont understand why people keeps calling the Iriz's engine a Campro. Even PaulTan! And not once I heard in this video call the engine a Campro! Feel free to correct me. I just cannot find the talk video, it was on RUclips years ago.
Preve cfe also have vvt at intake.. The block was campro just different at head and intake manifold
The cylinder block is still a campro at heart with the same engineering behind it. What Proton did was re-engineered the cylinder head for each iteration (Campro, CPS, CFE and VVT). Maybe just a few knicks by upgrading (piston head, con-rods etc) and stiffening the block in CFE, but in general, they're still using the 1st Campro as a based. Just like VW's ea888, it came with many iterations (1.8, 2.0) and generations (current in the mk8 is the 3rd or 4th gen), they're still basically the same engineering behind it with various improvements through years. So yeah, deep down it is a Campro.
CFE engine is 70% new design and components, the piston bore strok for example is 2mm shorter, It’s one of the engine that’s modifications friendly and the cast iron block have advantage over aluminium, most if not all drag car use iron block engin
Never thought of the gap between Iriz and 1.0l turbo car is this much! Looks like NA engine still practical against small cc turbocharged
Nope turbo is practical engine because fuel consumption better than 1.6 engine and road tax cheap

@@arx117 Agree. Every NA Engines are more reliable. Whereas for turbo engine, agree that maintenance for turbo engines is more expensive than NA Engines but depends. Anyways, not all turbo engines are reliable. If talking about Toyota, Mazda. BMW, Volvo, Proton that collaborates with Geely, Nissan and Perodua that made turbo engines, it will be more reliable.
interesting insight on the car performance.. fuel-wise, i notice that the primax 97 with pro race does save more fuel while i was on a long drive recently. really worth trying 👍

Ativa is an high A segment / low B segment car and should be seen as a direct competitor to Myvi, Iriz, Saga etc. Ativa is basically slightly smaller myvi with better handling and safety feature.
Dunno why people think Ativa = competitor of x50. X50 = high B / low C segment. It is 1 class above Ativa. It is like compare Civic and Vios really.
