More than one official needs to be held accountable for this epically disaster of a call. I seriously believe it is a conflict of interest if officials choose to bet on games which they officiate, as that is the highest offense regarding violation of ethics in such a profession. I am uncertain how to speculate any other narrative after viewing this grievance of an act.
Years ago this cost Georgia a game. AJ Green at home last sec touchdown brought back for celebration. With all the cameras on the field they couldn't show it. His mouth wasn't moving his arms nothing. He just stood there in the enzone listening to the cheers waiting for the team to run up. Two remaining long ball attempts failed and we lost the game. Still convinced the ref was dirty.
The trouble is the rule as much as the ref. The call is based on part (e) below, which prohibits "obviously altering stride" when an unopposed ball carrier approaches the end zone, so it's a technically correct call. Yet any reasonable sports fan knows the call is garbage, and the ref probably should have exercised some discretion and not tossed a flag. Here's the official list of actions prohibited by the NCAA unsportsmanlike conduct rule: "Specifically prohibited acts and conduct include: 1. No player, substitute, coach or other person subject to the rules shall use abusive, threatening or obscene language or gestures, or engage in such acts that provoke ill will or are demeaning to an opponent, to game officials or to the image of the game, including but not limited to: (a) Pointing the finger(s), hand(s), arm(s) or ball at an opponent, or imitating the slashing of the throat. (b) Taunting, baiting or ridiculing an opponent verbally. (c) Inciting an opponent or spectators in any other way, such as simulating the firing of a weapon or placing a hand by the ear to request recognition. (d) Any delayed, excessive, prolonged or choreographed act by which a player (or players) attempts to focus attention upon themself (or themselves). (e) An unopposed ball carrier obviously altering stride when approaching the opponent’s goal line or diving into the end zone. (f ) A player removing their helmet after the ball is dead and before they are in the team area (Exceptions: Team, media or injury timeouts; equipment adjustment; through play; between periods; and during a measurement for a first down). (g) Punching one’s own chest or crossing one’s arms in front of the chest while standing over a prone player. (h) Going into the stands to interact with spectators, or bowing at the waist after a good play. (i) Intentionally removing the helmet while the ball is alive. (j) Dead-ball contact fouls such as pushing, shoving, striking, etc. that occur clearly after the ball is dead and that are not part of the game action. (A.R. 9-2-1-X) (k) After the ball is dead, using forcible contact to push or pull an opponent off the pile. (A.R. 9-2-1-X)" from cfoaref.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/FR21-Rule-Book.pdf
I mean if that’s in the rules then this wasn’t technically a bad call but it’s stupid that it’s a rule and it’s stupid that they enforced it. Just because it’s a rule doesn’t mean it has to be enforced
And when a player on the other team retaliate with I cheap shot later on because of this taunting let it go too right? I was a college ref involved in two bench clearing brawls because of stuff like this
Nanny state is breaking through into every facet of life. This is an absurd call not unlike the marsh call in the NFL that cost Chicago the game against Pittsburgh last Monday Night.
Ridiculous call. I'd have to put it right there beside the call against Kansas State in their Pinstripe Bowl against Syracuse. The K-State receiver scores a possible game tying touchdown, gives a brief military salute to the fans in the end zone and gets the penalty. K-State is backed up 15 yards , can't make the two point conversion and loses the game 36-34. This kinda stuff happens a lot to teams like Iowa State and Kansas State.
Damn that announcer may have been right, that's one of the worst calls I've ever seen in all my years of watching sports, that was ridiculous. I've seen a few of these type calls this year and I'm not sure what the NCAA is trying to do with rules like this, these guys are making u billions of dollars every week, STFU and let them play ball, I'm not saying let them goes crazy and stuff like that, but come on the kid ran are great route, great play call at the time, he got 6, let him be happy about it for a minute
Agreed I think the ref was trying to fix the game for the higher ranked team, OSU. Then realized he couldn't tamper anymore because of the crowd reaction, which is probably why ISU ended up winning the game anyway. Would have been a bigger story if ISU had lost.
The dude literally did nothing. Looked behind himself to see if he was getting chased and then jogged into the endzone. That really is one of the worst calls I've ever seen.
I realize that as an Iowa State fan, I'm biased. But how was *that* unsportsmanlike/taunting, when ISU running back Breece Hall got a touchdown later in this same game and struck a damn pose without incident? Hutchinson's celebration was far less showy, how does he get flagged? Just another bit of evidence towards my theory that the Big 12 is where they send all the refs who weren't good enough at the game to make their dads love them, so they can crush somebody else's dreams like theirs were.
After watching every Big 12 Football game this fall, I’ve got to admit I’ve never seen one play like this. There has not been ONE TD called back due to a taunting call except the one called on ISU vs OSU. (I record every Big 12 football game to watch them later.) The worst thing that could have happened is if this Ref caused ISU to lose this game for a totally bogus call. Thus, it was a major win for ISU to overcome OSU and the zebras on the field. Kudos to perseverance to ISU players & coaching staff on their win.
I’m a Texas Aggie and we see a lot of hate calls from Refs all the time. But THIS is one of the worst calls I have ever seen in college ball. It’s really bad.
This kid was actually smart enough to check and make sure he had enough space to start celebrating, something that a lot of players haven’t in the past and regretted it, and the ref took away his touchdown anyway for it.
What’s weird isn’t that they called taunting but where they think the foul occurred. The ball is spotted on the 18 meaning the ref said he “taunted” on the 3. He turns his head around on the 17 until the 9. Then starts to slow down and do, I guess, his taunting high step on the 7. Then puts his hands up 3 yards into the end zone.
Seriously? You actually fucking think that's comparable? I didn't know refs get shot at when they call a game and I'm pretty sure refs don't ever get fired for shit while cops do even if their not in the wrong so take your political agenda bullshit outta fucking football
I saw this live and questioned it... I still do. Turing around to see where the defense is... normal. Those steps can be attributed to looking backwards... I don't get it.
It's shocking how many people commenting think they know the sport, yet clearly missed how "high-stepping" into the endzone became a penalty, with points removed from the scoreboard, in 2011. I guess a lot of people are new here, or something. Literally taken from the rule: "Examples include players finishing touchdown runs by high-stepping into the end zone or pointing the ball toward an opponent."

@@scvanguard1 high stepping is absolutely taunting when nobody else is around.
This looks like how the refs are always rapping the Razorbacks
😄🤣 I was looking for a Hog comment lol! We have a few worst calls ever.
So now turning your head around to look back for pursuing defenders and then changing your gait slightly as you go into the end zone qualifies as "taunting"? Beyond absurd.
The rule specifically states "high-stepping" is taunting.
I guess if you do it in the last 5 yrds to keep someone from a shoestring tackle, its still taunting?
I knew it. It had to be something automatic and not discretionary. Thanks for the explanation, Mike.
That was barely a high step if any. Looked more like he was transferring his weight too the other leg
@@willeodsson I agree but they are looking for the taunting stuff vigorously this season.
High stepping is not taunting.
@@mikecreger9702 Why this season? Did some horrible thing happen to make them crack down on it?
I'm an Oklahoma fan so no love lost for these 2 teams, but I remember watching this live and I got super pissed! Had nothing to do with my team, but this kind of shit has a trickle down effect amd we've already seen it in the NFL, like grow the fuck up these are people playing a passionate sport and even with that this was as ticky tac as it gets. For shame Big 12 refs For fucking Shame!
Taunting doesn't affect the outcome of the play. Tf are they getting that from
It does. They took away the touchdown.
I was there, they literally called it back
It was because the "taunting" was before the touchdown. Still a terrible call tho
@@chasebethersonton5169 Play yes. Game no.
The enforcement was correct. The decision to call it in the 1st place???? No.
Unsportsmanlike conduct for looking back to see if someone is near him??? To steal the line from ESPN, C'MON MAN!!!!!!
One extra long stride at the 3 yard line....I almost can't believe what I'm seeing
That’s total bs
This type of stuff always happens to protect bigger schools from upsets
Years ago this cost Georgia a game. AJ Green at home last sec touchdown brought back for celebration. With all the cameras on the field they couldn't show it. His mouth wasn't moving his arms nothing. He just stood there in the enzone listening to the cheers waiting for the team to run up. Two remaining long ball attempts failed and we lost the game. Still convinced the ref was dirty.
I vaguely remember this. I am a GA fan. Do you remember who they were playing?
The trouble is the rule as much as the ref. The call is based on part (e) below, which prohibits "obviously altering stride" when an unopposed ball carrier approaches the end zone, so it's a technically correct call. Yet any reasonable sports fan knows the call is garbage, and the ref probably should have exercised some discretion and not tossed a flag.
Here's the official list of actions prohibited by the NCAA unsportsmanlike conduct rule:
"Specifically prohibited acts and conduct include:
1. No player, substitute, coach or other person subject to the rules shall
use abusive, threatening or obscene language or gestures, or engage in
such acts that provoke ill will or are demeaning to an opponent, to
game officials or to the image of the game, including but not limited
to:
(a) Pointing the finger(s), hand(s), arm(s) or ball at an opponent, or
imitating the slashing of the throat.
(b) Taunting, baiting or ridiculing an opponent verbally.
(c) Inciting an opponent or spectators in any other way, such as
simulating the firing of a weapon or placing a hand by the ear to
request recognition.
(d) Any delayed, excessive, prolonged or choreographed act by which
a player (or players) attempts to focus attention upon themself (or
themselves).
(e) An unopposed ball carrier obviously altering stride when
approaching the opponent’s goal line or diving into the end zone.
(f ) A player removing their helmet after the ball is dead and before they
are in the team area (Exceptions: Team, media or injury timeouts;
equipment adjustment; through play; between periods; and during
a measurement for a first down).
(g) Punching one’s own chest or crossing one’s arms in front of the
chest while standing over a prone player.
(h) Going into the stands to interact with spectators, or bowing at the
waist after a good play.
(i) Intentionally removing the helmet while the ball is alive.
(j) Dead-ball contact fouls such as pushing, shoving, striking, etc. that
occur clearly after the ball is dead and that are not part of the game
action. (A.R. 9-2-1-X)
(k) After the ball is dead, using forcible contact to push or pull an
opponent off the pile. (A.R. 9-2-1-X)"

I mean if that’s in the rules then this wasn’t technically a bad call but it’s stupid that it’s a rule and it’s stupid that they enforced it. Just because it’s a rule doesn’t mean it has to be enforced
You know it's bad when even people on the other team are booing the call.
Wish this video were right, but officials made calls just as bad against ISU multiple times in the WVU game.
was at the game, ref's got booed rest of game and we didn't stop at all🤣
The game is eating itself, ain't worth a shit no more
This is literally the worst and most absurd call I've ever heard if I were a coach I would not have my players continue the game until corrected
They must have been the refs in Pittsburghast night for the Steelers and Bears
As someone who worked security for that game, during the commercial break after we scored that drive they booed the ENTIRE time
They're kids. Let them have a little bit of fun out there.
And when a player on the other team retaliate with I cheap shot later on because of this taunting let it go too right? I was a college ref involved in two bench clearing brawls because of stuff like this
Woah, that is unusually bad. It's not just on a regular play but a touchdown too.
Nanny state is breaking through into every facet of life. This is an absurd call not unlike the marsh call in the NFL that cost Chicago the game against Pittsburgh last Monday Night.
Dude looked back to see how close the defender was how's that unsportsmanlike SMH
Fact check: this is indeed the worst call in college football history.
There’s a difference between a “bad” call and a non existent figment of your imagination call.
Best part was 3 plays later same guy gets td
Ridiculous call. I'd have to put it right there beside the call against Kansas State in their Pinstripe Bowl against Syracuse. The K-State receiver scores a possible game tying touchdown, gives a brief military salute to the fans in the end zone and gets the penalty. K-State is backed up 15 yards , can't make the two point conversion and loses the game 36-34.
This kinda stuff happens a lot to teams like Iowa State and Kansas State.
Dude, I swear some of these refs have it out for us heartland teams.
I disagree with the refs call and I am routing for the other team!
I'm gonna be in the minority here and say it was a good call. That celebration was so weak it deserved to be flagged.
As an O State fan, that call was horrible! I am glad ISU scored a TD on that drive to make it right. Good game ISU.. y'all beat us fairly and squarely.
Definitely rigged
Agreed I think the ref was trying to fix the game for the higher ranked team, OSU. Then realized he couldn't tamper anymore because of the crowd reaction, which is probably why ISU ended up winning the game anyway. Would have been a bigger story if ISU had lost.
The dude literally did nothing. Looked behind himself to see if he was getting chased and then jogged into the endzone. That really is one of the worst calls I've ever seen.
Welcome to the era of.... "cancel culture" .... !
And rigged bullshit
That moment the drunk guy at the end of the bar really is better than the refs
Good thing this was called. My kids were watching. They, for a second, thought having fun playing a game was alright. Shameful.
Next "Taunting, number 7, he exhaled after the snap"
Never heard of taunting negating a TD, nor did I even see #8 taunt.
That ref needs to be fired immediately.
He “high stepped” at the 3 yd line. There’s a specific rule against high stepping. Yes it is a stupid rule, but it was the correct call.
Let’s admit it. We’ve ALL seen SO much worse with absolutely NO punishment whatsoever.
After watching every Big 12 Football game this fall, I’ve got to admit I’ve never seen one play like this. There has not been ONE TD called back due to a taunting call except the one called on ISU vs OSU. (I record every Big 12 football game to watch them later.)
The worst thing that could have happened is if this Ref caused ISU to lose this game for a totally bogus call. Thus, it was a major win for ISU to overcome OSU and the zebras on the field. Kudos to perseverance to ISU players & coaching staff on their win.
Refs felt like no one was paying attention to them.so they will get the attention.
There's been a few of these calls this year? What are they looking for that makes this taunting?
Those refs should be terminated... immediately
What's wrong with taunting? If you are being taunted, just play better.
I'm not a fan of either team, but that was a terrible call. ISU fans should be furious with that call.
What's funny is that the refs missed about 16 holding penalties in this game.
Pretty sure that ref was compromised. He should be investigated. For real.
Wouldn’t be surprised if that ref had money on the game
Sweet! Now I wanna be a ref for all the cowboys games and call back every TD they make for this exact penalty! Absolutely nothing 🤣
There needs to be a committee that holds refs accountable for bad calls
Well now I have to look up the game to see what happens next.
Was this ref in Lubbock last week?
That's absolutely ridiculous.
I'm a Michigan fan, and yes, that's the worst call I've ever seen in my life. Love your coach.
Referees have enough to do without the responsibility of perceiving violations of this rule when it isn't flagrant.
Even worse they called him for looking back at the defense, not the wipe.
?!?!
The fix was on…
Officials are becoming like cops, hiding behind the zebra stripes and the you can't touch me attitude.
Seriously? You actually fucking think that's comparable? I didn't know refs get shot at when they call a game and I'm pretty sure refs don't ever get fired for shit while cops do even if their not in the wrong so take your political agenda bullshit outta fucking football
@@rhetthayes5981 I have the right to my opinion. Calm down dude.
I saw this live and questioned it... I still do. Turing around to see where the defense is... normal. Those steps can be attributed to looking backwards... I don't get it.
I've always said that officials should be made to do post game press conferences to explain their decisions.
It's shocking how many people commenting think they know the sport, yet clearly missed how "high-stepping" into the endzone became a penalty, with points removed from the scoreboard, in 2011. I guess a lot of people are new here, or something.
Literally taken from the rule:
"Examples include players finishing touchdown runs by high-stepping into the end zone or pointing the ball toward an opponent."
Insane! I couldn’t understand why the officials were helping Oklahoma state, they usually only help Texas and Oklahoma.
Big 12 refs hate Iowa State and West Virginia. Always been like that.
Protect the ranked.
There was unsportsmanlike conduct but not on the player it was the REFEREE! That had to be the WORST penalty I have EVER witnessed.
All he did was look back to see if he had pursuers. That isnt taunting.
I despise taunting. I find it childish and insecure. However, I find nothing in this video even close to the same zip code as taunting.
They called taunting on Texas last week for half way spinning the ball in overtime.
That was absolutely horrible. Heck if they enforced that in the NFL we would have nothing but 0-0 tie games. Pathetic!!!
