greetings from the hills of west Ireland. Great to see a youngling who is enjoying the beauty of growing stuff instead of wasting away on the phone all day. well done, my little cottage is surrounded by herbs, fruit trees, and plants and flowers for the bees and wild-life. I really appreciate the tea bag concept - thank you for sharing! I'd like to offer a suggestion: avoid adding honey to hot tea, as high temperatures can compromise the medicinal properties of raw honey. Instead, consider incorporating it into warm tea to fully enjoy its benefits.

I really want to try fried sage now. Sizzling is because of water in something, so letting them dry out probably means less sizzle. You only have to put 1-2 fresh ones in at the same time to see if they sizzle much more. That's what I'm going to do.

Hey y'all, I spent one summer while in the army in the mountains near Salt Lake City at Camp Williams. We were out in the field on the mountain late summer early fall and all you could smell was sage 24 hours a day. It was like my mothers sage and onion turkey stuffing and every Thanksgiving I still think of that summer. I watched a video about planting smelly stuff to keep the critters and bugs away from your main plants. I planted sage, rosemary, lavender. The sage and rosemary grew alot. I have a whole bunch of sage that I clipped off my plant yesterday since today was supposed to be our first freeze in Wyoming. I wanted to know what I could do with it. Started drying some for the tea . I can just fry the rest and see what it taste like. Next to find something to do with my Rosemary. I think the idea behind wilted sage leaves is to reduce the water content in the leaf to concentrate flavor, but still leave the leaf supple enough for frying. @@AuxhartGardening ok, that's good. The average annual low here (zone 6) is around -4F, and can get down to about -15F on very cold years. I know people around here are able to grow them as perennials so they can survive, but they generally lose their leaves at some point, I just wasn't sure when. Temps here should stay above 15F for a month or so though, the coldest part of winter here is usually late January to mid February.

In my area the sage stays green all winter. It's a mild winter, but we still have below freezing nights for a month or two.

What are the staples made out of? If it's just metal I can't see it doing any harm in the compost.

They're sharp, and never break down. I can't imagine running my hands through my soil and getting a staple stuck in my hand.

@@AuxhartGardening Fair point, I don't really drink tea so I didn't know how sharp they are.

Made a delicious chicken dish with sage, thyme, rosemary, garlic fried in butter. Add some honey and chicken broth.
