I've been cleaning & cutting fruit for over 10 years now, (and I'm not even that good) so don't be discouraged if you can't get it right the first couple of tries. Since so many of you requested a "knife tutorial", I'll be posting one next week along with a "Why I started my channel" video. Thanks again for all the great comments! I didn't realize that so many people love food the way I do!! It's like a big culinary family.

Thank you for this simple but effective tutorial. I was at my parents place over the weekend and I cut the fruits (melon, pineapple, honey dew) just as you demonstrated in this video and the guests, including my parents were very pleased with the presentation

This is the basic technique I use for cutting large fruits, especially for a group of people. I noticed that a watermelon, served with no rind, will disappear in seconds, compared to a similar watermelon served with the rind on. Same for cantaloupe and honeydew. If you want your guests to eat fruit, serve it up clean and convenient. (But leave grapes in small clumps attached to the vine, no one wants loose grapes for some reason.)

Nice video! One thing I like to do before cutting melons is thoroughly wash them with a light soap. Many ground contaminants still on the melon. When you slice a blade through them, you’re running the risk of contaminating the flesh.

We Chinese when we have fresh pineapple we like to soak it in water with little salts first... Coz that will make the pineapple more sweeter and healthier... For watermelon I sometime like to put a little dash of salt on it too ... Is wired to some people but it makes the watermelon more juicy and sweet... Hope u will try it next time...

maybe starfireneeki meant the way you cut it wastes some of the pineapple. i''ve seen my dad cut pineapples with spiral ridges which would save a bit more of the flesh.
and im curious, how do you make the pineapple core into a snack??

Yes he does, here in Indonesia we usually carve through the brown spots of pineapple in diagonal shape following the line of the spots so we don't waste the other part of the flesh that doesn't have the brown spots.

+Jen Tuesday From what I see, these cutting methods/tips are generally reserved to serving fresh fruits to guests while you're entertaining based on what professional cooks do in hotels or restaurants. I don't think even people with awesome knife skills will do these things while they're serving fruits to themselves or families... no?
