    I hope you still read comments. My C230 is having some electrical issue where accesories are not working when I'm driving(window, radio stuttering, headlights on for few sec then off longer, turn signals are not consistent when being used) I have changed the alternator and it worked for a day but the issue came back again. All those accessories work when the engine is not running, only in battery mode/accesory mode.

      Have you checked your battery? When a battery is failing, the onboard computers and electronics can go crazy even if you've replaced the alternator. I've had this happen to a BMW.

    My 2001 C200K M111 engine won't start properly. No consistency in the process. It might stall a bit at start up and loss of power while driving. Again, not all the time. I'm suspecting that this might be the culprit. Is there a way to diagnose the flap?

    • @jimjam1224
      @jimjam1224  6 лет назад +1

      Sorry for the late reply. I imagine that you have already solved this problem by now. Either way, the only surefire way to see if the flap is malfunctioning is to read the engine codes. The check engine light will illuminate and give you codes related to the flap. From there it's a matter of checking circuitry and the flap itself.

      do it ! Yup. I cleaned it well and even took it apart to clean the inside as well. Anything to avoid spending money, however even after cleaning it, the flap would fail about 10 mins into a drive. Replacing it was the best option.

    When you install the new one you need to mate it to the ECU or anything? Mine would fail sometimes mainly in the morning I would have to pull over to the car off and do the reset procedure and it would come back and work fine for a while sometimes a couple days sometimes weeks. I bought a new one it wasn't OEM and when I installed it the flapper was just bouncing like crazy no matter what I did I'm thinking of returning it and just getting a used unit.

    • @jimjam1224
      @jimjam1224  3 года назад +1

      Hello Michael. Once you install the new recirculation flap, there is no need to mate or reprogram the ECU. BUT, you do have to do a "re-learn" process with the new flap mechanism. Just make sure you clear the codes on the computer after replacing the new part. The issue with the flap is that once you install the flap and plug in the connections, you do have to adapt the flap. That's probably why yours didn't work. Here's a link that tells you how to re-adapt the new part. It's going to be the very first post. (basically you are going to need two people for this job and it's very easy. With the car off, one person is going to move the flap so that it opens about a half inch. Then they are going to hold it at that position. You are then going to turn the ignition to the 2nd position for 15 seconds right before starting the car. Do not crank the engine! Once you have turned the key to the 2nd position the flap will move by itself and the other person can let go of the flap. Please read the instructions in the link, they will tell you how long to leave the ignition on for each section). mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203/238472-learning-recirculated-air-flap-air-flap-reset-procedure-m111.html

    • @jimjam1224

      The M111 engine itself is practically bullet proof. In other words, it's a strong and reliable engine. Things to watch out for is the recirculating air flap. This part is part of the supercharger and emission systems and tends to fail on most cars. It's a common problem that is easy to fix. The coil packs tend to fail sooner than later as well and replacing those are easy. Other than that it's a great and fun car. If you can get one with a 6 speed manual that would be even better.

      An illuminated check engine light with an emissions code, loss of power due to the boost venting or escaping into the atmosphere, and poor gas mileage. Yes I did find a reasonably priced source and trust me, it wasn't the dealer. I bought it from I believe partsgeek. I don't remember. But I paid around $375 for the part. Yeah I thought about pulling one from a salvage yard, but I realized that this was a common problem and I'd just be replacing a defective part with another defective part. If you're planning on keeping the car, just buy it brand new. Just remember that you're gonna have to re-adapt the flap once you install it. I installed mine and after adapting the new flap, the car ran amazing!

      Symptoms are rough idle, very poor gas mileage, 50-60% loss of power, and a P0410 code from the scan tool. The code will cause your car to fail emissions since the air flap is involved in supplying fresh air into the exhaust system at cold start.

      It's Ok. Thank you for subscribing. Much appreciated. It seems like the actuator may be stuck closed causing an overboost situation. Make sure you check the electrical connections from both the wire harness and the connector from the actuator itself. Then take the actuator out and inspect it for any dirt or residue that could be causing the flap from actually opening and closing smoothly. The next best thing to do is to run a live scan on the car while driving. On the scan tool, select the recirculation air flap parameter and check the percentage while driving the car. If the percentage does not change when the car is under load (driving it aggressively) then the actuator could be bad and needs to be replaced with a genuine part. If you buy cheap or aftermarket, the flap will work for a weeks and then it will fail again.

      Comparison or not, if the flap is already giving you issues, you're better off getting a new one. Eventually the flap will not function anymore and no amount of cleaning is going to make it work. Hope that helps.
