My friend called me up and told me there were dogs barking at a hedgehog outside his house. He then caught the hedgehog and passed it over to me. Today we’ll be giving the hedgehog a little bath to relieve dried skin and also potential dirt that had been caught between its spines. We don’t know how old it is, or how long it’s been wandering outside without a home. It’s definitely not a wild one, as wild hedgehogs are non-existent where I live.

Since when he was found(yeah he propably was bleeding when the dogs attacked him) it was night, and the video was shot in day time, (there's plenty of natural light it seems like, so propably not straight morning) there was more than enough time for the bleeding to stop. One other guy in the comments mentioned that this hedgehog 'looks like the albino species', so his skin might let more light pass through, and so we see his blood inside more.

Some of my observations, as a hedgehog owner (over a year):
that "soap" at showed up at the end is actually his saliva, hedgehogs self-anoint which means when they encounter a new smell that they like or is powerful they will bite at the source of it, make their saliva all foamy and lick it on themselves. There are a few theories on why they do this but no one knows for sure. it is completely normal and healthy :)
he looks like a healthy weight and not missing quills from what i can tell so i don't think he was outside for long or has gotten sick, but please take him to the vet asap to make sure he's healthy, not that i have to tell you that.
He isn't curled up in a ball and is letting you pet him and bath him, which means he's been well socialized and probably had good owners. I suggest to get your friend to ask his neighbours if they are missing a hedgehog or know someone who's missing one, just in case he got loose by accident and they want him back (and tell them to be careful and never leave him unattended out of his cage). Hopefully he wasnt released because that would be horrible but he is soooo lucky to have been found by your friend and to have landed in the hands of an exotic animal lover. He'll do great in your hands!

I'm also part of a huge hedgehog Facebook group and they are willing to answer any questions without judgement so it's a fun time all around. What I've learned about hedgehogs is that they're pretty strange but straightforward creatures haha

Love this vid. I currently have 2 hedgehogs but have been keeping them as pets for about 6 years. The green stuff was probably from him "annointing" hedgies do this when they find a smell they like. They chew on it until they make foam and then lick it on their spines. Its some real exorcist looking stuff. He is a boy but what you thought was his peen was his tail, you can see it near the end of the video, but that belly button looking spot is actually where his junk is. Speaking of junk since he's a boy he may masterbate, just prepare yourself for that akward moment where you don't knock and walk in on him. Keep him warm and give him a hide and a wheel and he will be a great companion. I've found using fleece as a liner in a plastic tub makes cleanup easy. Best of luck to your new buddy, he'll love some of those super worms you got

Zog2000 I’ve had a hedgehog for three years now and what I have gathered is that you should not feed them super worms. Multiple hedgehogs have died from digesting super worms, one in the stomach acids, the super worm is somehow still alive and will chew their way of the hedgehog. But the anointing is very on point. I agree with you entirely.

@@nataliagalindez7756 neutral quills feel like a bristles on a cleaning brush. When they want space and quill up they can be sharp. But mostly you get tiny scratches, once you get confident handiling them and learning to read their body language its a non issue.

Hey Exotic I'm glad you're taking care of him. I have a hedgie too. Most likely he's not pissy he's scared. Hedgehogs are very tentative creatures. He's also nocturnal and he would be more comfortable in low light quiet environments (they have super sensitive ears). Hedgehogs typically aren't fans of water but he might be an exception. They can get hyperthermia and hibernate super easy.
The green spots are from self anointing aka him trying to blend into his environment.
Also "Albert" might be someone's pet. He looks super exposed to people. I would highly recommend taking him to a vets office to get him checked out.
What are you currently feeding him? I feed a mixed diet of high quality chicken based cat kibble (watered if the hedgie doesn't have much for teeth) with mealworms fed as treats.
I also recommend some research on RUclips because there are some really great resources on taking car of a hedgehog! All the best and good luck 🦔

@@Faith-zt3pq that's true but from experience hedgies can disappear in a second, if there's a way to snoop theyll go for it. The hedgie looks well fed and handled. It's possible its a mistake, you never know.
@@LootGobbinPersonal hmm, I've never owned a hedgehog myself but that does make sense. If the owners want to find him then hopefully they'll put up missing pet signs around the area, cause I don't know how one would be able to get their hedgehog back after it runs away, cause they're just so small.
@@Faith-zt3pq Just like any pet, if you take them outside you should keep a close watch on them because they could disappear in a second. It seems like the owner was pretty responsible considering how well the hedgehog was doing exposed to a new human in a completely new environment, they probably took them out everyday to bond.

I mean it's got soap in it. A bath is just you bathing in your own dirty water. That's kind of part of it
It’s the rinse that counts with any form of washing. The dirty soapy water can help to remove more dirt.

We have hedgehogs 🦔 in Sweden and they are kind curious animals. We had a female with 3 young ones in our garden and we did feed them. Don't give them milk but you can give them wet catfood, raw egg and such things. My mother baked pancakes 🥞 for them and they loved it. She did that very often. When we sat out drinking coffee ☕ the hedgehogs often came and they love soft cakes. They all got very tame so when we sat down they often climbed up in our laps and was very friendly indeed! They often get killed by cars that the sad truth...when they feel threatened they roll up and think that their spikes will protect them...

Green bits might be moss, grass stains, leaf goop, something like that. The color reminds me a LOT of grass stains. The spines look colorless, so I’m not surprised the stains show so well.
He also seems pretty active, so he might be young. Unless old hedgehogs are just as curious as young ones.

The green spots are just from the grass from when he was outside, it doesn't hurt the animal at all.
For example, whenever you rub your knees against fresh grass, it'll leave a green stain.

I used to own a hedgehog. I recently have to give him a new home due to my health. I’m still little sad about it.
If you are going to keep that hedgehog you’re going to have to give him a 10 inch diameter wheel for running, lots of cloths or little blankets for them to “ bury” themselves in (they love to burrow), and that green stuff on him quills are from him. He was eating something and then he licked that green stuff onto him quills, people are not use why they do it.

That definitely looks like a domesticated hedgehog, at least I have never seen a wild hedgehog that light colored. Not to mention he is extreamly social, most wild hedgehogs (even some pets) won't uncurl for hardly anything unless they feel totally safe (aka not anything near them)

I don’t know what country this guy lives in but it looks like a African pigmy hedgehog people keep them as pets here in Britain. Wild British hedgehogs are very placid we have rescued ones at my work place and one woman worked for a charity that’s just hedgehogs and she bought one in that had just come from the wild the day before it was extremely calm cooperative and like this one they are known for being so chilled. African pigmy hedgehogs tend to be way more defensive
This hedgehog is extremely friendly, especially considering what he went through before Exotics took him in! He was definitely someone's pet, you can tell just by the behavior and the fact that he's comfortable with a human and inside a house.
@@9kazcat from what I've seen, British hedgehogs are quite a bit larger than this guy. Both species are very cute though!

It looks like it might me. Most hedgehogs I've seen have the typical grey and brown sort of coloration, and this little dude seems a lot paler
I'm also pretty sure it's an albino. I see hedgehogs pretty frequently in my garden, but none of them were ever this light in colouration. You can also see that his eyes are red around 7:23
