Fun fact: Peter Capaldi had wanted the Mondasian Cybermen back in the show for his entire run, so I find it quite fitting that he gets his last series finale with them. The fact that John Simm’s master is in the series was actually spoiled in one of the series 10 trailers (the one that plays after the credits of Smile), which is a baffling decision that I still don’t understand to this day. Still, I had no idea it would be that character, and I’m glad you didn’t have it spoiled before you watched it. The next episode is a favourite of mine, so I really hope you enjoy it.

I believe there was a leak at the time that John Simm was returning so the BBC had no choice but to announce it to prevent the tabloids.

This is such a great finale. I wouldn't worry too much about Simm's Master - I feel similar to you about his character in S3 and the Specials, but Moffat writes him far better as he's no longer crazy.

I always like when people get to enjoy the John Simm twist....
Sadly back in the day, the VERY FIRST imge of series 10, that BBC tweeted was "John Simm returning as the Master" and everyone was like "WTF just happend? BBC did you really spoil THE biggest plottwist in years?"

Fun (or not so fun) fact - we all had the John Simm reveal and the Mondasian Cybermen return ruined for us in a trailer!
Real shame as it’s a huge moment, especially for those who generally enjoyed Simm’s version of the Master… So was nice to see someone react who wasn’t just sat waiting for Simm to appear at the end like we were watching live

Missy is my favorite Master. The blend of comedy and drama with Missy works. I’ve never been a big fan of Simm’s master. Too over the top. It was okay though (especially as that version was being driven mad by the drums). But still. More later!

I love watching your reactions because you seem to have mostly avoided taking in 'popular' opinions and can give a totally fresh take. People may be even a little confused by your apathy (right word?) to John Simm's Master, but I find it so authentic and fascinating to see someone whose feelings have formed naturally after watching the show in a relatively short amount of time.
Out of the Masters we've had in NewWho so far, John Simm is also my least favourite. I still really like his portrayal in general but I find it a bit too straight-villain-y. The Master should be a bit eccentric, as they're supposed to be the antithesis of the Doctor.
For me, The Master is at their best with absolute chaos and a bit of anger and danger sprinkled in. A mix of John Simm's 'insane' Master and Missy's whimsy would have been perfect.

Peter Capaldi loves the Cybermen and during his run kept begging Moffat to do a "Genesis of the Daleks" but for the Cybermen, especially as he loves the Mondas design

This is one of my all time favourite Doctor Who episodes. The Cybermen are creepy as fuck and that's how they should be presented.

This is the first time we’ve had a multi-master story on television, but Big Finish got there first, having done a multi-Master story as an audio adventure in June 2016. They’ve since done more Master get-togethers on audio as well. Perhaps that inspired Steven Moffat to attempt the idea on TV a year later.
The Master taking on various disguises & wearing masks is something that featured heavily in Classic Who, but this is the first time they brought that aspect back to the new series. The scene of the Master wearing a burglar mask, over a rubber mask, as he & Bill are sneaking around the hospital is double-meta 🥸
Everything in this episode from a time-distortion aspect, with time moving more slowly the closer you get to a black hole, is largely accurate from an astrophysics perspective. 🚀

This story would have had far more impact on its original broadcast had the BBC not completely spoiled the return of the series 3 Master by prominently featuring him in the Coming Soon trailer! Way to go,BBC
There are really great moments in this episode, but if I take a few of those out. Not much else to it apart from just building up to the end and what’s to come next :)

One of my favourite series finales in the entire show. The John Simm twist is nuts, it’s a shame it got spoiled for so many people in the trailer (I managed to avoid it somehow). Funny enough I bumped into Pearl Mackie (bill Potts) at a tiny cafe on my street the other day, cool seeing her in this again

Pretty sure I got spoiled by his return which just dampened the mood honestly, but it wasn't the trailer but rather a RUclips video thumbnail. Thumbnail straight up just shows John Simm & the title mentions his return
this and the next episode is my favourite finale of the show so far, it's set up and resolved so well and is just full of emotion and great storytelling

@@HamzaReactz also this is probably me just being too much of a physics nerd, but I love how they experimented with time dilation (time flowing at different speeds based on proximity to mass (in this case the black hole) ). it was a very good way to explain the development of the cybermen and the very different society on one end of the ship
John Simm is my favourite Master, so I loved it when he came back in this episode, and I feel like he was written better in this story & it makes him feel like more of the villain he's supposed to be

Fun fact: the Mondasian Cyberman in this actually look slightly different to how they do in the Tenth Planet. Manly the fact that on this version of them they have the gloves which they didn't have in the tenth planet.

@@HamzaReactzthink they also made the lamp on the head and the chest piece smaller so the costumes were easier to wear and move around in. Nice subtle edits that maintain the overall look of the Mondas Cybermen
Indeed, Peter Capaldi was somewhat upset, because he did want it as authentic as possible, but it justified to set up for the wham line, since even those of us who didn't realise what was going on already, we'd realise that the cyberman had a black woman's hand and know what was happening.
Moffat writes the John Simm Master way better than Russell. Even brought back his old school goatee. Love this episode.

Amazingly dark episode!! Unfortunately before series 10 was released the bbc spoiled the return of the mondasian cybermen AND the master!! The extremely creepy yet cheap look of the original cybermen actually works in the stories favour as this is supposed to be how the cybermen started, so the technology has yet to advance. The look of the mondasian cybermen constantly changes throughout classic who
Before we watched this on it's first broadcast unfortunately we were somewhat spoiled on that the Master was coming back by showing him in the trailer as well as the BBC announcing John Simm coming back which spoiled the surprise of the Razer disguise had it not been for that announcement The Master being disguise of Razer would had been a big shock to us all. John Simm was personally not happy about it.
I love all the versions of the master in my opinion, missy is funny but also like evil mary Poppins , john simm is evil and funny , then the classic who versions are total pure evil lol 😂
now cybermen , I prefer the look they have in nightmare in silver episode , but the ones in series 2 are my favourite ones

@flowersrainbowd9703 Don't speak on behalf of everyone else that's just your personal opinion I've been watching Doctor Who since way back in 1963 and the show is always changing I'm an obsessive whovian and alot of my friends and myself actually like Jodie's Doctor yes the writing has let her down but that's not down to Jodie blame Chibnall.
Personally I don't think he should skip any episode even the worst ones but it's his channel I'm not going to tell him how to run it let him decide for himself if he wants to pursue the Whittaker era or not.

Wonder how Present Hamza is looking at Past Hamza whenever past him said on multiple episodes how he wants Missy to stay evil while the rest of us who have finished the series just went "Oh boy..."

I liked this version of John Simm's Master better than how he was portayed in the Tennant era this was proper sinister evil Master and also like they brought his trademark goatee back.

John Sim later said that he was glad he got invited back as he never particularly liked his protrayal as the master the first time around. This time he was given a bit more creative freedom to evolve the character the way he wanted to. I'm not a fan of his original master, but I do like this older version so hopefully you'll pick up on these same things and come to like him too.
He's never said that... he's always said he's loved playing him... hence why he was excited to come back to End of Time and then again for this story (he stated he was surprised to be asked back as once he became Michelle, he thought that was the end of him ever returning)... its true some fans don't like his portrayal in RTDs era... but he's never had a bad word against it... its clear in the way he often leaves comments it with RTD on his Insta... saying he'll be happy to come back when RTD was announced to return...

Mondasian Cybermen and Simm returning as the Master was revealed (not even leaked, officially revealed as part of an advert before the series), and tbh, kinda ruins the twist of first tv multi-Master/Missy story. Like people out of the know are/were surprised but once you know it, "Razor's" eyes/voice do start to look/sound familiar.
Yeah they shouldn’t have revealed it. But I get why they do that stuff. Gets more viewing numbers. Especially from those fans that’s stopped watching after RTD era. Showing them The Master come back would get them to watch it I guess :)

Nobody did. But his last three episodes are really something, so this is helping. Btw, I'm really happy that I missed the spoiler when the episode aired and I didn't follow internet discussions. So I also had this "Oh my god. How... shit" moment like you had. 😁

@HamzaReactz well we knew he was coming back and the master always been the best at disguises in classic who. Think my dad took 5 mins to work it out and my sister never worked it out till the end lol
