3:33 considering Tiago Catarino's explanation of why some technics are illegal, I actually doubt this is considered illegal, because it isn't really stressing the pieces
very early versions of that "boat stud" had in fact slightly smaller holes, but still big enough for a pole. This is different from for example very early inverted slopes, where the holes where in fact way to small.
just cause its not an "official" technique that lego hasnt used doesnt mean its illegal as long as the pieces arent stressed or put through more pressure than usual
I sometimes wonder if LEGO piece designers thought of some of the techniques, like the one with 2x2 circle on rails? It feels too perfect to be a coincidence
@@krzysiekchinbeard4442 There are certain techniques which don't apply stress to parts, but still wouldn't be allowed in an official set due to either being too loose or just not being a very good connection. There's also the various techniques using minifigure arm, leg, and hand pieces which have been separated from their original parts. Those don't apply stress in and of themselves, but removing them requires a bit more force than is normally acceptable.
The plate in the 4:30 wheel was the first wedge by Lego with stud notches back in 1987 and thus is the only still unchanged design - so it's not THAT crazy to have a lot of them.
I think the keyword here is almost, everything Lego is designed to be a shelf piece and not actually used even the ones that come with motors because the parts fall apart too easily, so if you’re looking for a remote control car do not buy Lego if you’re looking for a cool building experience and a nice shelf queen item, buy Lego
Brick Bending channel does a lot of geometrical designs like the giant wheel at 4:30. They are illegal builds, but they are also works of art and mesmerizing.
@3:51 - 4:15 - Lay that lot out horizontally on the ground or on top of a wall, and you’ve got yourself a length of barbed wire…plus it would be flexible enough to curve around corners…
@@ioisdead7936 my lego splinter (ninja turtles) broke his arm when I tried to take it off, now I avoid doing it and when I do, I try to be as careful as possible
3:50 I’ve made one myself but this requires a lot of those pieces. This build is for more for decoration because they are loose and break apart easily. I have some ideas for them: - Hair dreadlock/braids - Robotic muscle fibers This build would make any build a more ‘organic’ appearance.
You could make a "100 IQ building techniques" video which just shows the most basic of building techniques, like putting bricks... Onto other bricks. Or putting bars... Into clips. Perhaps even putting Technic pins into Technic pinholes if you're feeling daring
the one you say is illegal at 3:30 is surely not illegal; open studs are designed to hold bars, and no pieces are being stressed. What am I missing here?
I don't know this for a fact, just something I've noticed but older versions of this piece have thicker plastic around the open studs and it takes quite a bit more force to fit a bar in them so it might have been illegal at one point.
The bar clip chain, i thought it was little hands all interlocking and it made me think of SpongeBob when he keeps grabbing his arms and pulling them off and regrowing them 🤣
0:26 unable to assembly - studs interfere 6:10 unable to assembly (rectangular triangle with 4,5 studs side do not have 6 studs long side , it has 6,3)
0:22 I've done this one before, but I never found a use for it. 2:36 I don't know why, but that seems a little sus. 4:14 another one I've made, but never found a use for. 5:35 yep, I made a ninja triangle like this.
The very first one for sure is illegal - in fact in doesn't even really work, as the studs are blocking each other. Also I think it's illegal to put studs only half way in, as it's used for all those wheel designs, but I can't find that in the guideline at the moment.

Remember: a lego technique is only illegal if it’s damaging the pieces
Once said from The amazing earth
Or hurts people physically!
@@InactiveAcoountSpeltright just, just, just shush
I don’t know how to do it but I don’t think that’s what I mean it is just like that the whole thing is like a joke lol that’s what I mean
it’s also illegal if you put pressure on them

Those pieces were not made for a pole connection. They stress them.
@@Nio744 if I'm not mistaken, in the past they weren't, but now they have those holes intended to make in fact a pole connection
very early versions of that "boat stud" had in fact slightly smaller holes, but still big enough for a pole. This is different from for example very early inverted slopes, where the holes where in fact way to small.
Even if the hole isn't the right size, you could put four 1x1 circle plates with holes on each to get something similar
just cause its not an "official" technique that lego hasnt used doesnt mean its illegal as long as the pieces arent stressed or put through more pressure than usual

Not so much a coincidence but more a great example if their strict engineering
2:41 Thanks. I wanted to make a pentagon in lego without hinge plates/bricks and now I know it's possible.
What I constitute as illegal is how much stress is being put on the peices and how likely will something break
This is also how Lego defines what is and isn't legal

Hi
5:53 this technique is also being used in the Coloseum set
fun fact the Lego technique at 3:30 is possible to be made in Lego digital designer
a software made by lego
thus this technique is legal

6:08 and that’s how you put stress on a Lego brick
Came here to say that. I think some older sets used angles that Pythagoras did not approve.

With enough lego you can conquer the world
2:46 would be perfect if they made a starcourt mall set from Stranger Things tbh
As a kid I did a few of these just messing around with my legos. I wonder if I'll go back to that soon.

6:08 is a very illegal connection. The space between the jumper studs looks like 6 studs in length but it's actually 5.95 studs long.
5:50 that one is used in the snokes star destroyer set
Noice, love ur channel!
5:58 I recently assembled millennium falcon and similar technique is used on the roof of the set to connect 2-4 triangle pieces in a circular shape.
4:30 “If Theres a hole , There’s a goal” - Master Oogway
I'd be interested to see someone take these and show them in some kind of build to see how it can be used and what it'd look like in a build
Man I would do the meditation stance with the minifigures, but I'm afraid i may break the thing to connect the legs back on

It’s really easy to do without breaking the underwear part of Lego minifigures. Just pull to the side of it and wiggle them to get them out easily.
#4:01 you could use it as barbed wire on the top of a fence

YES! LEGO should be more versatile. LEGO should provoke ideas than just "museum" builds.

The math behind legos geometry is amazing. The fact that there is "Illegal" building techniques is a testament to how well it is designed.

I could see someone using these, provided they come in green, for climbing vines for a Lego Mario stage
