Collaborating with our partners, we provide aid for 250,000 Native Americans a year, and yet there is more to do
Now, two of these partners from the Navajo Nation and the Oglala Sioux Tribe share their thoughts abut life on the reservation, the progress and challenges, and why PWNA is able to help.

Yes! Native Americans do need to be treated with respect.
People of the Nations need to be treated with more respect and helped, if they request it. I can not understand why they are ignored. Their culture is the best,and we could all learn from them. Our earth our home needs healing. We need to cherish it and cherish one another.

It's wrong that any Native American should be treated this way , or forgotten , this Land was theirs and I pray , ipray so hard ,that they all the Indian Nation rise up and take back what is theirs ❤
Whoever believes the notion that "all the Indians are gone" hasn't lived....
But even if they were, shouldn't it fall to non-Native Americans to be responsible for preserving the memory of their existence?
They will never be forgotten, but they're also not gone.

Native American people are not forgotten. The Seminoles, Senecas, Oneida, Osages and many other tribes are highly economically successful. The Sioux are a victim of their own ignorance and non economic development.
Im Navajo i grew up on the reservation and i had running water and electric. i live in a 4 bedroom house 2 bathroom garage house a back yard and front yard. i could take me 15, 20, secs to walk to through the whole back yard. i grew up not knowing what air condition was because unfortunately my house did have air conditioning its just my family never used it. it never gets higher than 90 degrees and its never humid either. the summers are dry and comfortable. my mom had a job and everybody had a job in my family. everybody i knew in my family went on to college. i was not over weight i graduated at 145 pounds. we ate breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert everyday. i played video games all the time and had satellite tv. the winters were brutal and cold 10 degrees to 30 degrees the high yep that was the norm for me my mom probably only paid 400.00 dollars for rent so wish the news people would interview me i guess im not interesting
Hi Al. Of course your story is important. The range of people's circumstances range widely. I am so thankful you seem to have been blessed. Look into your own tribal archives and other tribal archives and you will discover the deer bone carving's on most of our people ,.. found this out when i was 14 year's old ( I'm 56 this year ) been carving since , the bones are cleaned by our traditional black and white friends the magpie's , they have help in more the one way , surender to rawness and go find out yourself 😊

I'm Choctaw at least more 12-25% I need DNA test my aunt is 100% Choctaw I pride the part of native I have in me I know the Choctaw language and songs my dad lives if the resorvation. But either way natives r treated like dogs for what our ansesters did I'm extremely saddened about the trail of tears and other things the government did they stole land And now they r braking treaties in standing rock what next.

That's all a fake version of events. But you don't sound like you're ready for the truth.
I feel very deeply that this is an extremely important organization to support, as the destitution, and deplorable conditions, and low quality of life on North American Indian Tribal Lands, was and still is caused by Federal Government Policies, meant to destroy Indigenous culture in every way, ruining their connectedness to their own land regions, to the point of ruining their cultural ways of life, as culture, for any people, begins with their rooted connection to their original land region. Mainstream Americans, are not aware of present day conditions on reservations, as mainstream Americans were never taught the truth of atrocities that occurred due to Federal Government policies implemented not long after the American government was formed, but even before the American government was officially in place.

You're so welcome! :) I am very happy to see Indigenous Media in the 21rst century. The very best source of information regarding a culture, are people who are actually born into and from that particular culture; this way we maintain cultural sensitivity and avoid perpetuating stereotypes of Indians for example, which could easily happen, but moreover, accurate information about the Tribe, and cultural facts. Indigenous Peoples are one of the Creator's Greatest Gifts to the Earth, all people descend from Tribes, but many of Indigenous Tribes of the world, namely North American Indigenous Tribes have been very successful in resisting Acculturation, Forced Assimilation, and have resisted relinquishing their cultural/tribal identities, customs and traditional ways of life. Our Indigenous Peoples are very special, and special to my heart. I love you so much with all my heart! This is your Continent, All of this land is Yours! I hold you in the highest regard, respect, and acknowledgement as you are the First Peoples, as many Indigenous Tribal Names attribute to being. I believe your time is now for being acknowledged as the First True Leaders of this Land that inherently belongs to you. I grew up in Yakima, Washington State, I was born into a neighborhood nicknamed Lil' Tijuana, due to the high percentage of Mexican Nationals, Mestizos (Spanish/Mexican Indian mix, i.e. Hispanic), Northwest Indians, namely the Yakama Indian Nation, lots of mixed race people as is very common in Yakima, and African Americans, and a very low populous of Anglo descended people in our neighborhood. My goal is to obtain a career in Tribal Rights Advocacy, I am currently seeking my A.A. Degree, with a Major in Humanities at Bluegrass Technical and Community College, there is no specific Native Studies program here, and a very small population of Indians, both Mixed Blood, and Full Blood in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, so the need here in Kentucky would most likely be very small, and there are no Federally recognized Tribes here in Kentucky. you wrote this 2 yrs - the words still ring true, for me (a non-first-american); my heart is with your struggle. Every Tribe should have some form or opportunity (or forum) to promote their unique culture within their reservations or further. If we get our country back on track from the current administration of Greed; the US could provide financial assistance for education, housing, agriculture plus grants to start-ups (as acceptable by the elders; for solar or wind energy; irrigation, seed banks, medical aid, veterinary aid, schooling to include tribal history & education to those interested in higher education. coding, nursing, agriculture, new eco-forms of housing (i've seen interesting homes based on discarded tires covered in mud which provide cooling in summer heat & retain heat in winter). Don’t you know that Native Americans receive
free housing, healthcare, child care, educations,
food stamps, and government checks through Native funding system in the U.S.A.?
All these poor Natives on the reservation are lazy who depending on government supports and refused to work.
I know few Native Americans who left reservation continuously receive checks from government and have full time job gets paycheck.
Why not all these Native people get a job and get out of poverty situation?
They could continuously live on the reservation and don’t even have to pay state income tax.
Native funding system give billions $$$ to Natives like pouring waters on the bottom less pits.

Thanks for your note. PWNA serves dozens of different tribes in the Southwest and Northern Plains. As the credits show, the flute is not Navajo.

To begin with Navajo clan, the original Navajo clan ancestors came from Alaska they do play flutes.

@@cruisedance979some back migrated upwards into Canada and Alaska in later years and formed distinct cultures and communities but they're not Navaho.
