In this video we explore the newest car jumper on the block. The SUPERCAPACITOR. Overall I'm very impressed with the technology but we will also talk about the limitations of this type of jumper pack versus the traditional LEAD ACID & LITHIUM ION variants.

For those of you that are wondering if it was a fluke for how briefly the engine turned over with the SuperCap 2 please check out Project Farm's video at 11:06 and 17:12 where he tested the same unit: ruclips.net/video/ixWPx79g3yk/видео.html

Dude, I love his videos too. Been subbed to his channel for a few years. And I have used his testing to make a proper purchase of a few items.

Supercap jump packs are definitely just for properly operating vehicles that just have low battery issues.
If you need to crank for extended periods, find another car to jump yours so it can crank long enough for you to figure out what's wrong with your car. Just cranking futilely when it isn't showing any signs of starting will just burn out your starter for no good reason.

At minus twenty to thirty degrees Celsius, provided the boosters were at a similar temperature, the test result changed dramatically.

1:00 Fun fact. There is a recycling company out there that feezes lithium ion batteries then chucks them into a grinder to ground them up.
Why freeze them? Because they won’t have thermal runaway issues as the chemicals are frozen and don’t react.

I think it's funny that at 0:40 is when you mention 40 below zero... and you specify Fahrenheit, though 40 below zero in Celsius is the exact same temperature (that happens to be the crossover point of the two scales). 40 40 40! :)

I truck camp on Federal lands out west for several weeks at a time. Countless door open and closings. Ford powers up all kinds of crap (lights, modules, infotainment etc) every time the door opens. I carry a spare new AGM drop replacement battery, and yes I've needed it. AGM's have decent shelf life.
Several times I've experienced a cell short in flooded cell type battery.....12.6 becomes 10.5vdc and battery is worthless at this point.

There were a lot of moves there for a dead battery. Dead batteries steal whatever available current in the jump box. Stealing your cold cranking amps. Why would you try to jump a dead battery? Especially if it’s an abandoned truck? Your better off calling Triple A to have them jump it or just buy a new battery for it. Personally I have used lead acid jump boxes by the same company (JNC). They work great as long as they are relatively new. Overtime they lose their ability to work. I also have new lithium-ion jump boxes. I only used the lithium-ion once to jump a dying battery. It started it without any trouble. The lithium-ion are soo much lighter & easier to maneuver. I haven’t tested it in cold weather yet.
The other issue at play here is there must be an unresolved issue why it was abandoned? Like a bad fuel pump. Or some other mechanical issue? We’ll never know? I have a similar aged truck that I still drive everyday. I’m on my third fuel pump. Those are costly to replace as they are inside the fuel tank. The fuel tank must be dropped to install. Most likely the gas tank has a rust hole in it. Then the cost of the pump & fuel filter as long as everything comes apart ok? Your looking at a pricey sum of money & it still might not start?

Thats terrible as most modern cars take a while to turn over after a dead batt, because they run self diagnostics before they'll allow it to fire. Some of it is emissions related too.

Super capacitor charging through USB??? And why it's charging so slowly from lead-acid battery? Probably it works like flashlight in old cameras, where capacitor after charging switches from batteries to inverter and inverter discharged capacitor to gas discharge lamp. If it's true, I can understand why super capacitor is discharging so fast: the inverter is also consumpting energy, SMPS has coil on it's circuit which discharges capacitor during transient current. Try super capacitor without inverter, it might improve result.

Actually, you're "better off" going to Sams Club and getting a deep cycle battery. Every one of these toys costs as much, or more, than a complete, capable-of-starting-the-car-solo battery. I have a number of these sorts of things, but they aren't used to start cars. (some have air pumps, others are flashlights that will run for weeks, or can charge a cell phone 48 times...)
