I bought the first generation AutoWit super capacitor in 2019. It’s my go to jump starter. It’s never not jumped a vehicle I needed jumped. It never leaves my truck unless I take a trip in a different vehicle. I’ve also purchased the second generation AutoWit shown in this video. It’s a must have for any car user.
There is one more advantage and one more disadvantage. The advantage is it will work in temperatures as low as -40 degrees, unlike lithium jump packs which most likely won't work below zero. The disadvantage is it won't work on a completely dead battery. You will have to charge it using another battery first, then move it to the vehicle with the dead battery to start it. This could happen if you left your lights on all night.
I bought it for the great reviews! That’s actually the second generation of the product, which is improved & more compact 👍. It’s a good product to carry around in your car without worrying about recharging .
Glad to see this review. I bought the same exact unit based on Amazon reviews and Scotty Kilmer. Glad to know that it will be ready to use when I need it
I have A Halo Bolt 58853 and it has never let me down. I've have it for at least 4 years very pleased worth taking a look at. and it fits in the glovebox.
I love my second generation Autowitz jumper. For those who say you are screwed if you have a dead battery? Actually, I worked in the field a lot! I keep mobile cell phone power packs with me, whereever I go so my iphone doesn't die. Everyone should own at least one of those. My cell phone battery drains before the end of the day, so I always have them around. Perfect for boosting the Autowitz. I've even consider getting a small solar charger.
Literally today 9/3/2023 I was just at Costco pumping gas and after my car didn’t want to start! This would be my first time using it and it was so simple took about 4 minutes and boom car started! I recommend this product! Yes it’s a little expensive but definitely a necessity especially if you travel a lot. Imagine your car won’t start back up after pulling to the side road to relieve yourself and there’s no one and no cars around! 😢 literally a life saver. Please go out and grab one.
I've had it for several years and it works great. It has jump started around eight vehicles. It will also show alternator charging voltage after startup to indicate charging system is working.
I bought it a couple years ago, liked the idea of.. no battery because well, I've always had problems with those. Took me a minute to figure it out, plus I had very very dead batteries but after that, it's so far (knock on wood) worked for me. Might have to cycle it twice or something but it's quick, I'm glad I bought it.
Also, if somebody you know has a dead battery and they give you a call, you can use the cigarette lighter or USB to charge it while driving over to where they are.
Actually, what I tell people to do is get the Autowitz and also buy a Magsafe Battery Pack for their mobile phone. I own two of them. How many times does your phone run out of power throughout the day and you have to find a place to charge it. My iphone runs out of power before I can get through the day. So you kill two birds with one stone. You have backup power for your phone and emergency power for your autowitz. its easy to keep those packs charged while driving from job to job. My pack go into the house with me at night and charges next to my iphone.
I bought one of these almost 2 years ago after Scotty Kilmer reviewed it. Since then i have used it 4 times on 3 different cars. It worked perfectly. I have rented new cars with that nasty stop start technology where engine turns off every time you stop for a stoplight. This technology is basically what is used to restart those cars as its built into the vehicle. I have had to either jump my battery or someone elses uncountable times in my life and only once was my battery totally dead. Every time we hear the notable clicking sound when a battery won't turn the starter. So the battery isn't dead or you wouldn't hear the clicking sound or see the dash light up. This unit takes the power that's left in the battery and multiplies it in the bank of capacitors it contains. Therefor it has the nickname "super cap" .
Real life review of this product in the field. I bought one of these and was leaving the gym and surprise, dead battery. I plugged it in and it took almost 45 mins to get to 99% charge. The screen showed about 6.5V finally getting down to 5V once it hit 99%. My Venza after a dead battery or computer reset from no battery seems to always take at least 2 tries to start. It will start and die. Well, I tried to start my car after 99% charge and I was able to get 4 tries. Engine died 3x after just barely firing up and finally on the fourth time it slowly cranked and fired up. So yes it worked, but took much longer than 15 mins to charge.
Awesome video! Looking into this product. I was wondering if I could make a suggestion on another video episode. How to check the low voltage battery in a hybrid vehicle with a voltmeter and if it’s in need of replacement?
I bought one of these AutoWit starter kits after my Camry battery began to show signs of dying. One morning it was too weak to start the car. I hooked up the AutoWit and it works as advertised...really!
I bring my lithium jump starter in the house during freezing winter because lithium batteries don't have as much power when freezing cold. I wish you had tried the Autowit Supercap when it had been left in the car during freezing weather which would be a real advantage if it still performed well.
There are capacitors in it, no lithium batteries. I leave mine in my car and have used it to start vehicles in severe cold weather and it worked great.
@@61espo i live in Edmonton Ab Canada, we hit -35 C last week for a week, were you anywhere near those temps for your 'severe cold weather'? please let me know what cold temps you are talking about, very interested in this charger, thanks
@@mikeboston421 I don’t care where you live! It has no lithium batteries or any other batteries in it. Do some research in “Capacitors” which only store energy for very short periods. Check you tube for the mechanics in Canada that have done reviews on it. But in closing, try it. And if you don’t want to do that then don’t. I have this jumper booster and the one big negative about this is - it doesn't have a override mode like other capacitor boosters for those situations when the battery is dead, dead with zero volts because this jump booster still requires a few volts in the dead battery to operate. This can be useful if you have access to another battery to charge the booster, like from a 12volt drill battery.
This looks like a cool gadget to have , but they should have a side post point on them . Also does anyone know what to do if ur car has just a positive post connected to ur battery under the hood then u have to find a ground ? The wires aren’t very long

@@MrXyzasdf thanks, I wish they made the cables longer because some cars clean metal service is sometimes coated with some kinda paint or gloss. I could just go in the trunk and do it that way right ?
In a pinch, you could even use a 9V battery to trigger the output switch. It's more fumbly than the original version I have, which wasn't dumbed down for public consumption, but at least it's a way to work around it. Just momentarily connect the 9V battery and it'll switch on the output. Just know what you're doing and don't short the clamps.
Hello, What happens with our beloved hybrids, this will definitely work as well for them but can we use the front positive terminal and the chasse for negative to charge it?
Scotty Kilmer gives this 'Jump Starter' a DOUBLE THUMBS UP for ANY Gas Powered Engine, However You're PUSHING IT on a DIESEL Engine since it has to Power Up the Glow Plugs PLUS the Compression Ratio is MUCH HIGHER Requiring A TON of Cold Cranking Amps. MAYBE it'll Work on a VERY SMALL Diesel Engine, But DEFINATELY NOT on your Ford Super Duty F-250 or Semi Trailer Puller! A REALLY Cool Feature it has on it is AFTER You Start the Car, if you LEAVE IT ON While the Car's Running, it TELLS YOU Whether or Not Your Alternator is CHARGING the Battery by the Voltage Reading on the Jump Starter. I think a Minimum of 13V means your Alternator is Functioning, but Ideally 13.5 - 14.5 Volts means its Functiining WELL. If below 13 Volts your Car's Not going to Travel Very Far before Draining the Battery Dead, then you're Broken Down & Stranded.
I've got one of those. I'm a locksmith and frequently come across keys locked inside a car with a dead battery. I actually used it today for a client that had a completely drained battery overnight. I just give it a quick fill up from my cigarette lighter outlet and it's good to go!
@Randall Swanson He is right. The circumstances have to be ideal for it to work. They drain so fast. You only get a couple sec of crank. Forget trying to start a diesel, not happening. If the battery is dead, forget about it. Very low, real Life it takes like 20 min to charge. Cold out forget it. Most vehicles now have USB port everywhere. You can keep a far better lithium ion jumper charged up, will not hurt them. Super cap will work under ideal conditions, but life is rarely ideal.
$60 Vetomile 800A jumper, holds charge in storage over a year and still had over 75% after 2 jump starts. Pleased that cheap and works are together with this product.
Mine is in the trunk and it's been over 3 years so far and still no problems. I'll have to do a measured test of the output and see if it changes over time by recording the results as I go.

I heard that if your battery is COMPLETELY DEAD when using this product, you're going to need to plug it in ANOTHER VEHICLE so that it will function properly. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
If your battery is really dead, like you say you will need to plug the jumper in to another vehicle. Most "dead" batteries still will have enough to charge the unit up, though. If it is really dead dead a charger would be my preferred method if I have time and electric is a available, or directly charge it from my little generator. I did connect mine and charge it up, but have yet to use it. I have it and a lithium jumper (goes dead a lot) and sometimes in summer my little Yamaha generator that has a direct car battery charge function as well as some other stuff. I have one and the disadvantages for me are it is a bit bigger then I thought. It can not be used as a battery to charge your cell phone or run a light or air inflation. It is a bit pricey.
I dumped a small fortune into a Lithium ion jumper recently. Works great. Door was left ajar couple weeks ago,, dome light had come on. Deader'n a door nail. I don't believe a supercap would've worked. Then only weeks ago, I also sort of stumbled on to Thermal Runaway. Now I'm deLithiumionizing as much as possible. Lithium ion jump starter gotta go. I gave a second one as a gift, I'm gonna have to correct that too. Have only just started my research into alternatives. I used to have a lead acid jumper, but it was neglected, allowed to slowly discharge too many times and sulfated or whatever, junked. Haven't committed yet, but am thinking to get a permanent auxiliary, smaller lead acid AGM battery to use in tandem with a supercap. Somehow, I think some high end audio systems may do this, but somehow the aux AGM will be automatically kept topped up, but still isolated such that leaving a dome light on would only kill the main starting battery. Jump-N-Carry has a supercap that apparently includes a small Lithium ion backup. But, except for my phone, I don't want Lithium ion in my ride. As I said,, hoping I can somehow combine an aux lead acid AGM with a portable supercap, not too complex, somehow with a contactor and a voltage sensor / relay maybe to keep the aux AGM topped up but not joined at the hip with the main starting battery. Cheers.
I have a battery charger that also has a 'BOOSTER-function' in it. So if I need a boost, I just connect the right cables to the car's battery, then plug it into a nearby electrical outlet, change the settings to 'boost', and then I go into the car and start the car right up.
12:55 a solution for that would be to just get a small lead acid battery for those situations where you need to have a run battery and not just a jump pack. It doesn't need to be very large, since is won't be needed for starting, but instead just for the purpose of stabilizing the electrical circuits of the car when running. It could also be used for a donor charge for the super caps if the car battery is stone cold dead.
Why for example Toyota Company doesn't add this capacitors system as a built in system inside their cars in cause if the battery failure? Or I think we can do it by ours self as an emergency system in our cars by adding the capacitors system to be connecting permanently to the dashboard of our cars.
Hello and thanks for introducing and reviewing this product. I'm new to owning a hybrid so I need a bit of clarity. When you say it works on hybrids, are you talking about charging the 12v battery or an actual jump start under the hood using the post inside the fuse box? Thanks again for always having great information.
Thank you for watching my videos! I did test it on terminals under the hood on a 3rd generation Prius and it worked. It picks up battery voltage and it starts charging.
@@TheCarCareNut Very interesting that connecting the positive line to the post in the fuse box and the negative line to the frame of the hybrid would charge this device up. Genius!!
Watch Out for hernia... LOL! Although, I don't have the same brand; but bought one years ago, kept it's charge full every 5-6 months and it paid off last year by helped 3 people's cars (2 sedans and 1 Ford F150 with a V8 - consecutively without recharged the battery pack) just this past winter.
I hope you see this! I bought one about a year and a half ago. It was fantastic brand new. But now, a year and a half later, turns out, now it’s just a $150 paper weight. Can you please give us an update on how yours is working to date.
@@godzwrath with a pissed off attitude I tossed mine across the room on hard surface floor (not carpet) and it started working great again 😆 Maybe the jolt broke the temperature sensor which is what I think was the faulty culprit I’m not recommending this course of action as it probably only has a 1 in 1000 chance of working but I’m just saying it worked for me 🤣🤣🤷🏻♂️
I have had mine coming up to 4 years and so far it's been working fine. I can measure the output to get a baseline and see how it changes as time passes. I figure I can use a conductance tester to get an idea of short term CCA, and also use a 100A load tester to see how long it maintains a voltage above 10V.
Appreciate the detailed review...everyone seems to like this thing...Question: Are there any combo jump start/tire inflator products you like? Or do you recommend having these as separate items? Would love to be able to save some space.
The only drawback I would like to add to these portable jump starters/battery banks is that the alligator clips are sometimes(in my case, most of the time) not sufficient enough to cover the terminal with the power wires connected. Especially in modern cars which seems to use some wide/large terminal connectors.
I’m gonna preface this with the 100% honest disclaimer: I am not the smartest man. That said, when jumping a car, you aren’t jumping the battery, but the starter, then once that engine gets going the alternator should be doing all the work, not the battery. So as long as you can clip some sort of positive on that starter circuit (anywhere before the starter) and clip ground anywhere… it should work right? Again, what I just wrote could be the dumbest thing on RUclips, but even if you clip it on the battery cable somewhere I don’t think the clip size is an issue.
I bought one to replace one of my lithium packs that swelled up after 3.5 years. I think its a much better investment than a lion pack because if you leave the pack in the car in hotter climates, it will swell. There is also the maintenance needed for them. I believe that the Supercap would jump anything like 5.7 liters and below pretty easily in most temperatures and would be good for 10 or 20 years. I do have a question about the test. Did you hook the jumper cables to a flat 825cca battery on the truck or, unplug the battery and go jumper cable to car cable?
Stick shift, may solve that ??? I have used it a few times, starter fails stick shift , yes . Still drive a Camry SE with manual transmission, back in 22 bought a Tacoma TRD Sport with manual transmission as well. Quite enjoy rolling through the gears myself, . Cheers everyone.
You're in a dip in the road and it's uphill both ways, or you're parallel parked and blocked by cars front and back, and your car won't start. You can't push start your car, so good luck.
If it's completely dead. Then jump packs will not work too. That's from my experience of the past it must have little power left in order for both to work
Kennett work on a totally dead battery? I tried to use it on a totally dead battery unsuccessfully even when I charged it to 100% Prior to connecting it to the car. Also do you have to remove the battery terminals to connect it directly to the battery or can it go over the terminals like a standard jump starter battery pack etc.?
Will it work for hybrid? I know there is no starter motor in hybrid etc. But I've discharged 12v battery below "Ready" indicator limit already twice on a brand new car within a year. Just instaöled additional equipment and made some tunings with ignition turned on for 15 minutes. Battery can be discharged very fast. So I need a solution to get a 12V for a 30 seconds. Will this jump starter work?
when you start your car check the voltage to make sure your battery is charging...I have one in my trunk havent had to use it yet but its there if and when I need it...
Unfortunately if the battery is completely drained or dead it doesn't charge the capacitor. I have the earlier model and have used it twice, it was great. Didn't have to wait for a tow truck or another car.
@@DiniduPererait just takes too long to charge from a 5V power source though. Just carry around a small 12V sealed lead acid or gel cell in conjunction with the cap pack. Or use the old spent battery jump pack that otherwise won't work any more, just for charging the caps. They can serve a purpose a little while longer that way.
Would it not be faster if let's say I was rescuing someone with a dead battery to hook the super capacitor jumper up to my fully charged battery so it charges the super capacitor in a minute or 2 rather than waiting for it to charge from a very weak battery? That way I could disconnect from mine after it's been fully charged and then charge their dead battery. Nice review by the way
Great video. Thanks for the review! If the first senerio happens when no one is around if your battery is completely with not left in it to charge the unit, how long does this take to charge it in the house via the USB cord?
@@onenationundergod8 it takes way longer than a few minutes by USB cord, so don't be any hurry if you need to charge by USB for your jump. Count on allowing 20 minutes.
It does take quite a while, since the USB charger is charging only 5 volts and just a couple of amps unless you're using the newer high-power chargers.
Very fine...thx a lot for sharing; it would be interesting to compare it with another super capacitor like UTRAI JX1 ( and there is also antother a model by BUTURE... ): which is the best ?
It may have worked for you but it did not work at all for me. I have the first version. I charged the device with a USB cable which worked fine (15.1 volts). Connected it my dead battery and pressed the right buttons according to the instructions. And NOTHING. The first version is a little more complicated than v.2. I have had this thing for 2 years and needed it about a year ago on another car with the same result...nothing. Of course it was no longer under warranty so I kept it. So this morning with the temp around -10 my battery was dead. So I thought I'd give it another try. So I'd did. I am now getting ready to walk 3 miles to work at -10f. Needless to say I am pis### off. Not only did I waste $125 to buy this POS but I have now had to walk to work twice. But, I am happy it worked for you.
I’m sorry about version 1 not working for you. I totally understand your frustration! Honestly I tested this one a lot and still use it. Recently the temps in Chicago has been very low and I used it to jump start a dead car and it worked. Have you tried to contact the company?
@@TheCarCareNut No I have not contacted them. I am completely confused by this thing. I thought I was probably doing something wrong. I watched a dozen videos on how to use it and very carefully did exactly what you and they did. I get the 2 green lights then press the start button and try to start the car and it is dead as a door nail. There must be something wrong with this. I cannot afford a new battery until Friday so I will be walking 3 miles to work in sub-zero temperature. Life's a bitch sometimes.

Hmm, when you unpacked the product, it’s jumper cables were 10 inches long. When the video got to the car charging portion….. we see cable wires several feet long? Do we have to connect real cables to the little cable connection that comes with it?? Can you explain please. Thank you.
Sometimes the battery in the car gets weak because we forgot a headlight is on. Then when we drive it with another vehicle the battery will be refilled. And the battery will return to normal. In the case of this product, does the fact that we are pumping its last drop of electricity from the battery not cause more damage to the battery?
Hi! It doesn’t cause a negative draw on the battery that harms it. If it was able to charge on a dead battery I doubt it would draw so much that it would cause harm.
Lead acid batteries can survive being completely discharged for short times as it takes time for the lead sulfate to crystalize, becoming unrecoverable. Sadly, once the battery reaches the condition that this device is needed it has probably either been that low for hours or is already defective. When I worked in communications/IT field support for an electric utility we often encountered dead batteries in remote devices. By the time we got to them, usually a day or more later, they were history - especially if the temperature was below freezing. On the other hand, ones that were dead less than half the day just got bumped up a few months on our scheduled replacement list.
A couple of years ago, I just bought the cheapest one I could find (~$25) and tossed it into the car's trunk. So far I've started the cars of stranded strangers on 3 occasions. No problems. Recharged the unit once.
It can change from any power source as long as it can put out enough voltage and current. It'll take a long time if the voltage and current is low though. 5V 2A is probably a minimum for it to work.
Great video I enjoyed it. Can you make another video for the Hand tools needed to do DIY on Toyota vehicles including but not limited to: Oil change, Transmission fluid change, Coolant Change, flat tire, etc.. Basically generic tools specs to do a DIY (Normal/regular maintenance) work on the car.
You mentioned you are a certified TOYOTA technician. I have a question for you. I have a 2012 RAV4 V6 Limited. That small screen in the mirror (back-up camera) most of the time turn blue and sometimes provide a rear view. Any idea why? THANK'S
Out here in Arizona this is the only way to go. Any normal jump pack that you keep in your truck at our summer temperatures will kill the jump pack within a year. And of course, when you need it your jump pack will be completely useless. This technology is immune to this issue.
Thank you for your comment Sir. My lithium pack just swelled up at 3.5 years here in Va. If the SuperCap can take desert heat, it will most certainly take a 100 degree heat index easily.
You should also put a reminder in your phone to worry about the battery in your jump starter spontaneously catching on fire and burning up your car, because they can do that.
Thank you for your good work. I have question for you brother. I have used my Prius prime to jump start my other cars. and had the Prius prime’s engine running by putting it in regenerative mode . Is it ok to do so once awhile or am I damaging something ? Thank you
Thank you for watching my video David. I wouldn’t jump start another car from your prime or any Toyota hybrid. A video I’m working on is going to explain further on this.
I owned a prius for 360000 wonderful miles. It was still running when I sold it. That being said, do not jump off any more cars with it. The entire 12 volt system in this car is meant solely to drive low current onboard computers and accessories. It uses a section of the main electronic voltage inverter to charge that small battery and the inverter definitely will overheat when you try to demand high current for jumping a regular car. This will shorten the life of the inverter, which you need to drive the car at all, or kill it completely on a bad day. Last time I priced one of those, it was around $3000 BEFORE the labor to put it in. Please think before you jump. Prius can accept a jump from another car but cannot give one. Bad idea.
This could happen if you left your lights on all night.
hit the overide button.
I bought it for the great reviews! That’s actually the second generation of the product, which is improved & more compact 👍. It’s a good product to carry around in your car without worrying about recharging .

In a pinch, you could even use a 9V battery to trigger the output switch. It's more fumbly than the original version I have, which wasn't dumbed down for public consumption, but at least it's a way to work around it.
Just momentarily connect the 9V battery and it'll switch on the output.

Hello,
What happens with our beloved hybrids, this will definitely work as well for them but can we use the front positive terminal and the chasse for negative to charge it?
Your text is not clear. I suggest, You should use short sentences.
I definitely appreciate your balanced approach to this. Thank you!
I've got one of those. I'm a locksmith and frequently come across keys locked inside a car with a dead battery. I actually used it today for a client that had a completely drained battery overnight. I just give it a quick fill up from my cigarette lighter outlet and it's good to go!
I don't get it. Everyone says how great this thing is and it has never worked for me.
@Randall Swanson Yes the battery was dead. 2.1 volts I have since replaced the battery with a new one.

@@Flashman36175 Good to know, thanks for your information. 😊
Cheers.
Does it work on a hybrid like the Highlander Hybrid or Rav4 Hybrid?
I’ve used it on hybrids and it does work
I have a battery charger that also has a 'BOOSTER-function' in it.
Thank you for watching my videos! I did test it on terminals under the hood on a 3rd generation Prius and it worked. It picks up battery voltage and it starts charging.

@@godzwrath with a pissed off attitude I tossed mine across the room on hard surface floor (not carpet) and it started working great again 😆

Obviously if you have the option to return it just return it
I have had mine coming up to 4 years and so far it's been working fine. I can measure the output to get a baseline and see how it changes as time passes.
I figure I can use a conductance tester to get an idea of short term CCA, and also use a 100A load tester to see how long it maintains a voltage above 10V.
Yes it works flawlessly! Definitely the best there is!
How is it when stored in a car all summer. A lot of electronics have operating and storage temperature ranges.
I store it in the car in summer still works fine
I have one, it already payed for itself.
Do you have any updates? Does it still last/work?
I hear that it will not work on a completely dead car battery. Is it true?
I bought one and it's awesome 👌 Thank-you sooooo much sir.
Hi! You’ll need to connect it to the battery while it is connected to the car
@@TheCarCareNut I agree! Was wondering how you did your test. Cap to small battery and cable to flat big battery or jumper cable to car cable?
I need one that will start a 10L diesel in the extreme cold. It usually takes two 850 CCA batteries at full charge.

Looks good, I just wonder though what if the battery is completely dead and there is no power to harvest?
If it's completely dead. Then jump packs will not work too. That's from my experience of the past it must have little power left in order for both to work
I have this jump starter,my battery was with 6.5 volt ,,don't work.
It can directly over the terminals. The battery I tested it with was completely dead.
After some years does this tool still work as described? Thanks
Would a supercap still be your preference over a lithium battery for portable booster? Thanks

Can it be used to maintain 12 v when replacing a battery?
The difference between half dead, nearly dead, and all dead, as Miracle Max said 😅
A couple of years ago, I just bought the cheapest one I could find (~$25) and tossed it into the car's trunk. So far I've started the cars of stranded strangers on 3 occasions. No problems. Recharged the unit once.
can you charge the capacitors using things other than a car? will it work on agm batteries without damaging it or any systems?
It can change from any power source as long as it can put out enough voltage and current. It'll take a long time if the voltage and current is low though. 5V 2A is probably a minimum for it to work.

Out here in Arizona this is the only way to go. Any normal jump pack that you keep in your truck at our summer temperatures will kill the jump pack within a year. And of course, when you need it your jump pack will be completely useless. This technology is immune to this issue.

@@TheCarCareNut thank you for fast response. Looking forward for more of these Awesome videos .
Bad idea.
