EP-133 KO II | TRIBAL... TRAP... THING? | ROLAND SP-404sx & PO-32 TONIC INCLUDED

- A jam on the EP-133 KO II run through my Roland SP-404sx with a bit of PO-32 Tonic for added percussion.
I don't know what you would call this style of music. I guess it's kind of trap(ish?) but who cares. It's not a style I work in very often but I like how it's kind of got a two-step thing going on with the main tempo being around 140 bpm but everything flowing slower at half-time to that.
You can watch the video and ready how I explain the process but I'll put it here as well. Basically every sound/sample was recorded into the SP-404 first where I added effects and processed the sounds until I was happy with them. Then I bounced those sounds into the EP-133 to create the music with. The EP-133 has a much deeper sequencer and the master compressor is really nice. It also has more polyphony than the SP but even as such I still ran out of voices (lots of stereo samples used) and needed some more percussion so I layered in the PO-32 Tonic for those Trap style hats and claps. I think it did it's job perfectly. Every sample came from free sources on the internet except for the pads and mid-bass. Those came from my Roland JU-06A boutique synthesizer.
So yeah, fun way to work. Powerful but small and portable setup. Everything can run on batteries if you wanted.
Not sure what I'm going to do with this piece yet. I feel it is missing something as it is very much just a "jam" right now but there's a certain gravitas to the music that I find compelling. I have an idea for a B section that uses pipe organ sounds. I don't really have a good synth or keyboard for pipe organs though so I may need to get creative on that one.

Great work on this set-up, congratulations 👏.. Tirzahs ‘colourgrade’ and ‘Trip 9 love’ could be worth a listen if you might enjoy neo trip-hop as adding some fractured rhythmic ideas for the track later on. Nice one! I find the voice sample a bit tiring but really love the part starting at 0.38.
I find it a bit tedious myself but I guess this is really more of an exercise than a fully composed tune. Might do a B version with a different element or more sparsely used vocal sample.
