    It was a Bb5 but it was SO resonant that it sounded almost like a Bb6, which is obviously whistle tone territory. Patti said I can’t do whistle notes but let me fool yall into thinking I can😭

    • @KajiVocals
      @KajiVocals 10 месяцев назад +29

      Listen carefully. The progression itself will invalidate it. Also if you're really in doubt do check it on the spectrogram. It is very clearly just a B-flat 5 with a strong second harmonic. @@mjanmarino

    • @mjanmarino
      @mjanmarino 10 месяцев назад +10

      @@KajiVocals If is truly a harmonic, it's got to be louder than the Bb5. At 4:10 you can hear her sing Bb5, and it's not the same as her note at 3:19 . Again, if it's a harmonic, then it's extremely loud. I do want to point out that at 4:09 she does a quick Bb6, followed by a Bb5. The jump in octave is a lot more obvious there because it's done in succession.

    Patti is such a clever vocalist. She maximises her strengths, which is that insane head voice. They climax, I heard overtones of a whistle which honestly knocked the wind out of my sails. She’s 80 in a few months and is hitting notes women half her age could only dream of. An ultimate Diva!

    The real genius of Patti LaBelle is her mastery of transitions. There are very very few singers alive who can make those transitions from chest to mix to head and back again all the way down from the third octave to E6 and back again.....seamlessly. And with that amount of power, ease and projection? Literally no one in Pop music. Ever.
    Another genius of Patti LaBelle is the way she has adapted to singing in her seventh nearing her eighth decade. That is a whole other story, but it took a lot of work and skill and has produced some most excellent results. Truly astounding. Let there be No Doubt that Patti Labelle, under all of the stars...the moon.. and the sun above planet earth, is a true original, a national treasure--often imitated but never duplicated--An icon for the ages!

    • @nesq4104
      @nesq4104 10 месяцев назад +8

      No one period. Pattincan literally hit multiple climax notes in succession. While other singers would only do one not of that series and need to catch a breath to reset and try higher or not even try again at all. Patti is the master at this and that's why the crowds go crazy. Just when you thought she can't go higher she goes higher with more power and adds tones and vibrations and can do another one same breath. You have to be their live to feel the force

      I think Ledisi is maybe the only living singer I`ve heard on Patti`s level, I just saw her performance of `New Attitude` and she matched Patti all the way , keeping in mind Patti was 40 at the time she recorded it and in her vocal prime. Ledisi is way past 40 but she still killed it . Oh , Jennifer Hudson has range, vocal power and can sustain long notes too but Jennifer`s singing doesn`t really stir my emotions like Patti or Ledisi .

    Patti LaBelle is a reminder of the concept of singing and not lip talking while running around stage conducting aerobics like some of these no talented jokes today. She is a nostalgia of an era that people had to stand there and actually sing without the distractions from the voice with the silly clown shows that these young artists put on today.
    Here's the problem! There isn't any talent and skills when it comes to the popular and famous individuals today. There are real singers with authentic and great voices who aren't as popular as the non-singing jokes who cults swear by. There are some younger great voices who should be a lot more famous such as: Tamia, Jennifer Hudson, Ledisi, Deborah Cox, Jill Scott, Monica, and Brandy. Yet we are stuck with hearing about Tom Fools every ten seconds on the news. I don't get why these cult leaders have the fame but no vocal agility.

    I gave up, because you never ever ever ever ever do any of my request videos, and they be some of the best of all time, but Patti LaBelle absolutely MURDERED that song, she MURDERED it, DROPS MICROPHONE, GO TO THE FUNERAL & CLOSED THE CASKET, and then, after that she wld'hv had to turn herself into the Police department, for first-degree premeditated MURDER, because now no one in their right mind, will ever be able to sing that song, as a tribute ever again, and this was the first time I think that anyone has ever even use that for Mariah, and Patti came pulling out pistols, I thought she was going to say something like hero, which is one of her favorite songs, and it's the song she sung last time to mariah, because she almost knows all the words to it, she went through we had to learn this song called, and perhaps of learning and remember it, if only you know, how much that really says about her, because she will forget a new song, that is not hers, what she could get her own songs too, but definitely he likes to giving like a tribute or something, girlfriend on will forget those lyrics in a minute, and then the alignment on the background singers, and start yelling I need my background fingers, really loud like she did at the White house, when she did and no the lyrics to the song This christmas, that she just had have recorded for her Christmas album, and she told to sing those songs, for promotion, since it was Christmas time, and the album, was just about to come out😂😂😂😂😂😂.
    But it's made up for all of that Patti LaBelle I love you, so much, I love you both, U & Mariah, AKA your God_daughter❤

    Mariah started these high notes back from 1993 when she was just 21 or 22. Now, she's only 52 or 54 and still young. Now, it's only 2023 she already gave up those notes 7 or 8 years ago forever. Isn't that something?

      lol it means the note she sang was a Bb5(b flat 5 is a half step lower than B5 which is the last note before the sixth octave-C6). Overtones are basically the higher frequencies that can be audible when a note is hit. So here the overtone is an octave higher than the note she was hitting- thus you hear a Bb6

    I believe they're called harmonics.
    I think that they can be heard during vocal modulations. 👀 😏
    You called it.
    POLYPHONIC!...Producing two or more tones at once...
    She incorporates this technique on the song Body Language from the, I'm In Love Again album in 1983, also on The duet with Grover Washington Jr, The best is yet to come 1982, as well as using this polyphonic technique on the song The Spirit's In It 1981.
    I have to thank you for introducing me in a literal sense as to what it is that Patti does with her voice, at least just one of the many facets of her singing & sangin technique that drives me crazy.
    I've always been amazed and fascinated by the properties of her voice .

    My arse would have been crying if she sang my song. And she made it sooo damn “Patti”
    She gave it that Patti feel.
    She has a literal human instrument in her throat. Sheesh

    Patti is still full of singing ability at the age of 79 and is well maintained. On the contrary, Mariah can no longer sing very well in her 50s.
