She was in control this time because she was making a rendition of a song that is a vocal standard. You could see how she was very aware of every vocal moment. Even helping herself with her hands like Mariah. it was great. but you can understand even with somone like Jennifer why people like Mariah are once in a lifetime legends.
really loved your analysis, I loved this performance. there are BETTER choices she could have made, but she is a soul/gospel singer. so she gave it a gospel flare. I'm sure she could have sanged it like Mariah, but she chose not to. We already know what Mariah's version sounds like, had she done it true to Mariah people would have started comparing her to Mariah. no real artist is gonna mimic a song exactly like the original during a tribute. That's what Pop singers do who are trying to PROVE themselves. She is already well known she doesn't have to prove herself, she just needs to show up and show out, and that she did.
