Great stuff! However, I would encourage you do revisit your battery protocol...for optimal health, lithium batteries shouldn't be kept at the extremes: too highly charged or too drained. By bleeding the charge to Extra Low every session you are actually decreasing the lifespan of your batteries in a double whammy: the bleeding process and being stored in a super low state of charge between uses.
I am in the electric vehicle battery business - and I concur that by draining your battery to the lowest power - and leaving it without recharging it - will massively shorten the battery life. There are other ways to be safe, if that is your concern.
@@DamienLeroyRUclips great video thank you very much. ## But the battery: it isn't actually safe to keep the battery in a "very low" state. Maybe it's ok for the ride home and recharge in an hour. But if you keep it there until the next day and for the 10h the trip home or you leaving it there two weeks until foiling again, this can cause one issue lithium batteries have. In the "very low" state there are "metal spikes" growing inside the battery - these can be the reason for bad things happening, the next time the battery is charged. Modern electronic prevents batteries from dropping too low, but the safest way is to keep the battery cool and between 30-70%.

Yeah for safety, key thing is not charging around liquids or humidity, any BMS measurement issues will cause the cells to un-balance, which could mean a fire

Great video and walkthrough on getting started foiling! Looks super fun. I intend to learn to wing foiling and going this route efoil or boat tow seems the best way to get started. Looking to efoil in Maui later this year. Yeah, Lift foils are expensive but so are other vehicles like motorcycles or a jet ski, etc. I probably will stick with wind power, but definitely interested in giving efoil a try.
I demoed one today. I never got above 6. I'm 230lbs and rode 5'4 board with 250 wing. I was able to plane easily. Probably need a little more power to get on the foil consistently. These things are addictive.
The 5'9 would have been the right size for you in your first goes. Truth is there is plenty of power but takes time to learn the full basics and safety of it to be efficient and stay on foil the whole time. They are fun!
Being new to the sport, with no surfing, boarding background, and now about 10hours on the efoil, this is one of the best how to videos, out there. Thanks. Well done and cheers.
Agree with fireproof case for lithium batteries. However, cells become unstable at high or low voltages. Best to store at a nominal voltage and be very careful about heat and mechanical impacts. I say this from loads of experience with LIFE, LIPO, other Li Ion batteries. At low voltages I have seen a ton of cell swelling and some catastrophic ruptures. Besides that, it was the best video of its kind on efoils. I would fell comfortable trying one now. Thanks again.
Great video. For all of us who have done board sports where the board is ON the surface of the water (surf, wake, winds, kite) How different is the feeling to not be connected to the water's surface ? Efoil looks so great and perfect for real life where the conditions are flat, windless, waveless-and you dont need a boat or a cable to pull you
OK I'm in, I'll take two. Hey Damien, I think you should call tech support on that battery advice. Most manufacturers shop lithium batteries at half charge for safety. I don't think your correct about discharging the battery. I think you actually want a full charge. I could be wrong about this. I do high voltage linework so it's not the same as low voltage electronics but I did go to school. My gut says at least half charge is safest and full charge is best for longevity of the battery. But go with what they manufacture recommends.
Richard you are right, This was filmed over a year ago. Battery best practices! UPDATE: Keeping the battery cool … don’t leave it in the sun. Charge it in a cool place. Storing the battery at 30-50% charge zone for best longevity of a battery.
Fantastic video Damien. Incredible detail. I am considering getting an efoil instead of new kite gear, it's just a lot of money so I'm not sure yet. Loving your content although I may have to stop watching to save my wallet!
I'm coming from 12 years of kiting. My last 6 years kite foiling. It's my hope that I can cure this yearning feeling I constantly have for a session when we have weeks long stretches of zero wind. I have several friends who are stoked and claim that the Lift efoil fills this need.
Really good video and good instruction style. Is there an age limit for beginners? I am in late 50s, have waterskied since little kid , am ok at Windsurfing and on a snowboard, but have never surfed. Are there transferable skills? I fancy learning something new in my 6th decade,
I would be curious if you think it's easier to come into foiling from surfing or from windsurfing. I'm just thinking of the balance aspects of those two sports. Great instructional video
This is very cool. Do you think its possible to start efoiling without having an anterior cruciate ligament in my right knee? Is there a a lot of leg rotation going on? Or would windfoiling be a better suggestion?
This video was really helpful; but I need you to do one video of tips to ride the efoil in choppy conditions because I have one but it I have difficulties in choppy cond.
Sebastian, Choppy conditions are very hard to learn in or are more challenging for sure. If you can find some flat water to get your balance going and get comfortable, get a good feeling on the efoil first. Then your choppy area will be fine later but to learn in it is always a little more challenging.
Hey great video. Where are you want to take some lesson. Did here in cancun last year but with wing so now want to try efoil im gonna be at kendall next week. Thanks and keep on with this videos

I think such a nice product....very interesting especially for my country. .Greece with such a long coastline. ...bur where to find it ?.. to bye it ?...have any idea ?.. and how much would that cost ??.
Good morning Damien I thank you for all your advice, we will try to do it. I wanted to ask you again what is the best position, where should the foil go on the board in front of the middle or behind if you are learning.
If you set it back on the board it is the best for learning as it will keep you forward on the board making the foil harder to pop you up. The further forward you put it in the board is more likely to foil fast. So back in the board when you are learning is the safest....
Thank You Damien, I'm coming from years of kite foiling and I found the first Lift efoil rides relatively easy. I'm purchasing the '5 tomorrow and my question is about vessel licensing. When I check the state (Washington) site it asks for a vessel registration number (HIN)...... I wonder what & where I'd find this. And are you certain a license is required in most areas? I'm not seeing licensed eFoils around here. Thank You
Kip, I would just bring your Certificate of Origin and Bill of sale "that comes with the board" to the DMV. There you can register it like a boat, and they will give you your numbers and you are game on..... Hope that helps....
I just took a class and could not keep my balance side to side plaining. 165LB level 6. You never said it but is it turn a bit to keep my balance? Like turn to the right with heal toe if I'm falling right. I surf, is it the same? And when you fly, how do you keep your L+R balance? Some say drop your shoulder. What does it feel like? I want to get this in my head before I go back out because it's hard to communicate on the water with a helmet on. Teacher said I was doing everything right but I had no balance. Thanks for the advice, the first class was 5% fun, if the second one is as bad I wont get one. Thanks
Do you have any experience or information on using the folding prop on flat water? Specifically, I've got the pro size and live on a lake. I would like to kick up my already stellar enjoyment by possibly catching errant wakes, but I don't have a sense of exactly how much glide I could get with a feathering blade (certainly more than what I have now!). As you know, it is a very expensive add-on. Thanks so much - you do a great job and I point fellow enthusiasts to this site regularly.
Bill the folding prop does a lot and changes the whole ride... More to the part that you take the prop guard off. That has so much drag and really changes the ride when you take it off. Makes it more dangerous as if you fall you will land on the open prop.....The glide is for sure more but remember you are on a 50-60 pound board. It helps a ton to have a HA wing for sure for the perfect set up to glide on boat wakes..... Will give you the perfect combo..
@@DamienLeroyRUclips Thank you, Damien. I'm considering a HA 170 (I'm 5'7" 150 lbs and have close to 40 hours on my Pro board) - do you think this is the best size for wake surfing vs. the 200? I won't be riding the larger waves directly behing a boat since the intention is to just hop on whatever wake passes me by - there are wakeboard boats everywhere. With the folding prop and minus the guard it seems like I might need a leash since I presume without the drag from the regular prop, the board will keep going for a distance after I fall? Do others do this? Thanks again for the great resource.
@@billlambert2092 Bill, I don't believe you need a leash as the board as it will stop when you let go of the remote. Also safe to not have the board come flying back at you. You just swim over to it after your fall. The 170 for you weight is epic but it is high performance wing for sure. The 200 will be a little easier all the way around. You can not go wrong either way! Most would do the 200 but my favorite wing is the 170HA... :)
Today was riding e-foil first time, fall, got hit with board in face, few broken teeth. Be careful guys. Take care. I had some experience in wingfoil, just started to take of, foiling. Today was no wind, so I went to e-foil. After first 10 minutes i was able to foil with rare falls. But after 45 minutes, I fell hard and board follow me and found my face in the water.
Don't know if you are monitoring comments but I have a question. I am 230-240lbs depending. The board I demoed today felt really small so I decided with instructors nod that I wanted the 5'9 board. I'm not sure on wings though. I thought the 300/48 would be the way to go given my weight. What would you suggest for a heavier guy just looking to cruise. I don't really care about agility. I want stability over anything else. What wing combo would you suggest?
Richard! 100% the 5'9 300/48 will be a great ride for you! It will still be new and challenging like anything new! In the end will be a great ride for you friend!
Hi Damien! I need your advice on battery charging please 🙏 Lotsa professionals are saying that lithium batteries should not be charged 100%. In fact 80 - 90% is ideal for the longevity of the battery. If that is the case, is there any way to tell that the battery is at a certain percentage or can I only check that once it is plugged in and my remote is connected? Thanks 😊 again
Not sure on the not charting 100% honestly. The only way to get to say 80-90% would be to charge it and only charge all the lights but the last 1 maybe 2 leave un charged. There are 8 lights so the last one should be around 80-90% charged. My thoughts.
Hi Damien! Other than rinsing the board thoroughly, is there any maintenance or servicing that needs to be done and if so how often? Thanks 🙏🏻 I’ve heard that other board manufacturers have there boards serviced at regular intervals - which costs one a little extra $$$
Case the only real maintenance if you keep it in nice condition is adding reel x or non corrosion oil to all the cables oftern for extra protection to corrosion! Other than that not really anything more than keeping the battery safe and always using the bag covers. Thats it really!

Thank you CD.
loved your video. really encouraging me to take up the efoil
Great to hear friend! Glad we could help!
great info would like to see a video on the best way to enter and getting out of the water choppy conditions or small waves
hi again Damien! Could you make a video "how to efoil in waves"?
Already done should be releasing in two weeks! :) Thank you!
Great video. For all of us who have done board sports where the board is ON the surface of the water (surf, wake, winds, kite) How different is the feeling to not be connected to the water's surface ? Efoil looks so great and perfect for real life where the conditions are flat, windless, waveless-and you dont need a boat or a cable to pull you
It's incredible a must try! You will love it.
Wonderful video, so informative an insightful.
Glad we could help! Only thing I would change is keep your battery charged at 30-50% when not using.
Great video for us newbies! Excellent job👍
Thanks Rob glad we could help!
Saving up for my board. My new toy$$$
UPDATE:
Keeping the battery cool … don’t leave it in the sun. Charge it in a cool place.
Storing the battery at 30-50% charge zone for best longevity of a battery.
best review so far for me
Thank you. Note changes since 2 years ago, batteries are best to be stored at 30-50% charge.
Your a great teacher
Great tutorial! Thanks Damien!
Thank you! Just an updated change keep batteries at 30-50% when sitting or storing. Thank you!
Fantastic video Damien. Incredible detail. I am considering getting an efoil instead of new kite gear, it's just a lot of money so I'm not sure yet. Loving your content although I may have to stop watching to save my wallet!
Thanks for the kind words! The efoil is magic and the whole family will love it.....
I'm coming from 12 years of kiting. My last 6 years kite foiling. It's my hope that I can cure this yearning feeling I constantly have for a session when we have weeks long stretches of zero wind. I have several friends who are stoked and claim that the Lift efoil fills this need.
@@kippywylie Kip, You will absolutely love it!
Awesome video very well done! 😊
Thank you Jerry!
Excellent video, very well explaines
Thank you, note: Battery is best to be kept at 30-50% charge when not using a lot have changed since 2 years ago! Enjoy!
Great video Damien!!
Thank you!
Brilliant advise thank you
Wow you could teach anything. Great job
Thank you!
excellent video!!!!!! Great job.!
Thank you!
Really good video and good instruction style. Is there an age limit for beginners? I am in late 50s, have waterskied since little kid , am ok at Windsurfing and on a snowboard, but have never surfed. Are there transferable skills? I fancy learning something new in my 6th decade,
You are perfect for it, there is no age limit in my book! Honestly.. Very achievable.....
Great job DAmo! If that’s your logo :), you should totally make some tees, I’d buy one!
Rob, my brother love it....
A smart description of how to have fun on your foil
Great e foil vedio I’ve come across 💯👊🤙
Thank you!
I would be curious if you think it's easier to come into foiling from surfing or from windsurfing. I'm just thinking of the balance aspects of those two sports. Great instructional video
Great question! I feel it's so different that it would not really matter but if I had to choose maybe surfing. We appreciate you!
This is very cool. Do you think its possible to start efoiling without having an anterior cruciate ligament in my right knee? Is there a a lot of leg rotation going on? Or would windfoiling be a better suggestion?
Class act...quality product !
Thank you!
YOU OF THE PLANET WITH REGISTRATIONS ! WHO IS PAYING YOU FOR THIS DRIBLE !
Outstanding video. Next question, these look like a ton of fun. Not everyone wants to buy. Where can we rent? Websites?

This video was really helpful; but I need you to do one video of tips to ride the efoil in choppy conditions because I have one but it I have difficulties in choppy cond.
Sebastian, Choppy conditions are very hard to learn in or are more challenging for sure. If you can find some flat water to get your balance going and get comfortable, get a good feeling on the efoil first. Then your choppy area will be fine later but to learn in it is always a little more challenging.
like anything else . practice. practice. practice.
@@shawnhunt2332 You got that right....:)

Hey great video. Where are you want to take some lesson. Did here in cancun last year but with wing so now want to try efoil im gonna be at kendall next week. Thanks and keep on with this videos

Please tell me in your opinion what’s the advantage of Lift over Waydoo or Takuma efoil?
Thank you.

Igor, I think when it comes to quality, high end, performance, and something you can have for years, you will get everything out of LIFT. It's the leader in the industry. Just my thoughts.

The dog!!! 🙆🏽11:50
Half way through, the dog behind you dropped a deduce on the beach!
deuce! wtf is deduce?
I too noticed that.... But from my experience I believe that dog was peeing.
Can you also rinse the data connector and power connector on the battery after riding, e.g. if they have been in contact with salt water?
Yes you can for sure, but always recommend drying after and putting reel x on all your connectors often! Have a great week.....
Good information.
Thank you Bill.
Thanks for a great video but, I was wondering, why are you wearing a long-sleeved button down dress shirt on the beach for a water sport video??
1 big pro thing here is the throttle. other companies have a pushing system where you fast speed decisions
Yep LIFT has the gas pedal when you need it! :)
Can you add a guard to cover the blade?
Good job
Thank you!
why dont we have some sort of string or lace to bind/secure our foot to the board ?
It's not needed for most conditions. Only in waves maybe and you can add a leash no problem.
@@DamienLeroyRUclips thanks so much for your input. It's always appreciated 🤙
@@casscassy9174 Thank you
I can kitefoil backloops mega looping but have never tried a efoil. Picking up my efoil this month. Will I find it easy or not ????
Everyone is different but take it slow respect it and it will come quick! Enjoy the ride.....
