    Very important video - and good points all! The drone, talking etc is what airplane pilots and scuba divers call task-loading and it’s a frequent contributor to accidents especially on new activities we are not adapted to yet by instinct. Wear your gear guys.

    I had the same wipeout (falling on edge of the board) as a beginner wing-foiler. Out for weeks with very painful rib bruising. Had helmet on but no impact vest. As a beginner foiler you tend to fall a lot. After a while you get sick of falling and you start to try "to save it" but that's when it can get dangerous.

      @NEPTUNEFOIL  Год назад +1

      Same injuries and same cause but such a world between wing foiling and efoiling. Looks close but it's so different. To me the closest thing to efoiling (in terms of how you move your body on the board) is wakesurfing.

    This is all great advice. Thanks for the details of foot placement and explaining the cause - I've only had a wing breech while going straight but it's good to know what to watch out for. Thanks for posting it.

    I've done that a number of times. Mostly rib pain even with a vest. I've been lucky to avoid the wing. Those direct falls are mostly happening for newer riders. Definitely keep your focus.

    Great detail on this video. I have had that same fall while foiling as well as wake foiling. Cut my knee as well. In your fall I would add that the perfect storm came together where as you looked back your height raised, then you returned your head to forward and as that is happening for a nano of a moment you seem to initiate a carve to toeside. All the while very high with, as you stated, your feet too close to centerline and too much weight on back foot. This caused left wing to 1st breech and then there is a moment that you react to left wing breech and in the warble of the board there is a right wing breech. With just too much height, and that with pesky back foot not engaged and not anchored (not off centerline enough) a fall is eminent. I have trained myself to press down with front foot if I want to look somewhere other than where I'm going. Fascinating to see a fall that I have experienced. Also a student of mine had the same fall and broke a rib after hitting side of board with chest.

      Yup.. I don't know if I broke a rib but it damn hurted for a good 5 weeks. Thank you for your comment!! Have fun and be safe mate!

    Good explanation. I think the issue really occurred when you turned backwards to check the drone. This exacerbated your very slight backwards stance and altered the attitude of the wings further, resulting in the breaches. I bet you had some 'oh shit' thoughts going through you mind! What contacted your knee-cap - I am assuming it was the leading edge of the wing? You mentioned soreness in the chest area ... I assume this may have been the mast or you landed on the side of the board. I know it all happened very fast - but you did fight the fall a little rather than going with it. Stay safe amigo!

  • @RyanArmstrong89
    @RyanArmstrong89 2 года назад +2

    landed on fliteboard foils twice, high siding them sucks. wetsuit, life jacket and helmet minimise the impact substantially.

    Ouch! My first thought after seeing your fall was rib fracture. I bet you felt pretty beat up next day! I’m happy it didn’t kill you or blind you or chop your head off.
    I have never tried this or any other board, just normal skiing, but as a former dancer and therapist I know everything there is about balance and contact with your feet. Men are often much worse than women on this but it’s actually very easy to become an expert: you just take time every day to feel how you are standing, that your balance is present and your core is grounded without restricting any movements.
    If you ever have to learn others how to foil and you meet someone who is really bad at it, who can’t seem to concentrate or know where their feet are, let them go home with red socks and let them sleep with it. Walking in red shoes works good as well. Weirdly enough it works wonder at grounding you, and to find your balance and contact with your foot soles.
    It looks so fun to do this! Be careful! Your family loves you!

      @NEPTUNEFOIL  Год назад

      Yes I do teach others because I am running an efoil school for 2 seasons now. It goes very well and most people get to fly standing within the 1st hour.
      Yes after this fall I had to take a whole month of rest. My rib hurted like hell. I fell on the side of the board and I am glad it's an epp foam board rather than a carbon board.
      THANK YOU for your comment! Try efoiling when you get a chance.. I am skateboarding, snowboarding and wakeboarding for very long but efoiling is the craziest feeling I ever had. It's by far the best toy on the water at the moment.

    We had a guy at the local beach lose a thumb from the propeller a few weeks ago. Not sure if he removed the shroud or not. They couldn’t find his thumb, the water was deep. These things can bite. I sand the tips of my foil down to make them dull.
    Also had a friend who got hit in the neck when his wing board blew over on the beach. He had the wing leash attached to the mast but the mast was to windward. It nicked the artery in neck and 3 stitches required for his skin.

      Even if you have the propeller guard on (the shroud) loosing a finger can happen if you don't release the trigger when loosing balance

    I crashed last week and ended up with 12 staples in my head. The error was that I didn't wear a helmet, but also needing to learn how to always bail to the side and not out in the path of the foil

    • @michaelvadney5803
      @michaelvadney5803 9 месяцев назад +1

      When you bury the nose at speed it's almost instantaneous. It's difficult to bail correctly when it catches you off guard so quickly

    How dangerous is it to Efoil on a lake that has seaweed?
    I really want one of these, they seem like a dream come true.

    • @NEPTUNEFOIL
      @NEPTUNEFOIL  Год назад +1

      Seaweed is a problem obviously will get around ur mast and into your propeller so best to avoid these areas. No danger but forces you to interrupt the ride and remove it. No seaweed free areas on that lake?
