When I get my 2023 maverick xlt, I think I will leave it the way it is. What you did does looks awesome! I will black out the maverick letters, like you did.
Totally understandable. I do like the black ford badges. I also did it bc if I don’t like it, I can just peel it off and it doesn’t hurt the truck at all. I highly recommend tvd vinyl decals if you decide to get the letters. I believe he is a vet and is a small business owner.
Thanks for posting to each his own I like the original
You did a great job! That looks awesome. Much better than what I could have done. Of course yours is much cheaper but you can buy the smoked black Ford oem ones for $100. It comes in a kit with the front and rear badges plus blacked out camera housing. I did that on my Ranger and was a 20 minute install. Sure it's the same for the Maverick.
Thank you! I know my prep on the tail gate looked horrible but it was a spur of the moment kinda thing and didn’t have the proper supplies. I could have done that but for the price of one can and a lot of good reviews, I thought why the heck not! Turned out better than I thought it was.
@@MotoJoee 💯 I get ya. I actually tried to plasti dip the rear emblem myself. I couldn't stand the chrome badging on the truck. Came out HORRIBLE! Nothing like yours So I had to go the "I got no skills way" and buy. 🙃
@@chadm2511 haha man you should give it another shot if you didn’t buy the ford ones. Idk why but the maverick has the biggest chrome tail emblem and I can’t stand chrome either!
Where do you get those? Do they have them for the Maverick yet? Searching online turns up only some from a site called emblem-city and they are almost $400 and is also gloss black and not matte or flat like I would want...
link?
That took guts. Came out looking fantastic!
Thank you! Was kinda uneasy on spraying it on the truck lol
You convinced me to do it. On coat #3 rn. Hopefully, i dont butcher the lettering removal
lol just take your time and don’t rush. I know it’s hard but trust me. Make sure it’s dry before peeling off and you should be good!
Great video! You make it look easy. Thanks for sharing
Thank ya!
That looks super good and gives the truck a way better look bro
Hells ya it does thanks man
How has it been holding up and do you see any wear and treat after a few washes looks great though nice job
Still holding up like I just applied it yesterday!
I was skeptical at first, but it looks awesome. I bet if you avoid car washes and use your pressure washer or touch less car wash it will last a long while.
Oh yea I’m definitely not taking it through the car wash. Have had bad experiences with them destroying my past vehicle. I’m skeptical in seeing how long it will last. Never done this before or used it so we shall see!
Did you cut around the edges with that scalpel or just use it to lift it up enough to grab it. Tried on my f150 and botched the letters gunna give er another go some day soon
Lightly cut the edges on the parts that weren’t coming up while pulling. Also started it with the knife as well.
Looks great! How long did you wait to dry before peeling off the letters?
Just dry to the touch!
Looks great! Did my F150 badges, now it’s time for the ovals.
Thanks!! Don’t rush the ovals and take your time to let the coats dry. 6 coats is the sweet spot.
Great Job
Thanks!
Did you do anything to protect the rear camera? Was it necessary ?
No I didn’t cover it up. Once the plastidip hardens it peels right off. It’s not spray paint even though it comes out lookin like spray paint.
Hows it looking a year later? And did you pull off the stuff on top of the back camera?
Still going strong man. I know I didn’t show it, but I did pull it off the camera. No tears or peeling. Highly recommend it
Did you cover you’re rear backup camera or just peel it off after it was dry
I sprayed the whole thing and peeled off the spray on the camera
How does it decide what sticks and what doesn't when you start peeling parts off?
I think it has to do something with the cracks and crevices. No idea but it works!
Looks great bro!
Thanks brotha!
How about the camera did you sprayed on it too?
Yes I sprayed over it and peeled it off when doing the letters
Looks awesome!
Any tips for getting the lettering off on the front badge? The lettering is really shallow
Apply about 6 coats, let it dry completely and use an xact-o knife to get the peel started. From there just take it easy and slow when peeling. If you notice the letters are pulling on the areas that you don’t want peeled, use the knife to cut it.
Great Job looks great !!!
Thank you!!
How did you remove the overspray patches that were on the tailgate?
It just wipes off
Homemade black appearance package??.. My personal opinion would be just get the blacked out sticker and wrap it. One drive thru the car wash might take it off. Not bad though.
Yessir! This stuff is pretty solid. After a week it is on there. I personally don’t take my vehicles through the car wash but have heard from multiple people that car washes won’t take it off. Thanks!
nice...when i get my 23 mav, i may give that a try
It’s worth a shot!
How is it lasting? Any chance you went through car washes?
It’s still holding up strong. I pressure wash and hand wash my truck myself. No problems!
@@MotoJoee alright, I’m going to black mine out. Thanks to your video. Any experience taking it if, if it does peel. How hard is that?
@@jtcindahaus awesome man! it peels easy if you allow it to dry completely. If you don’t, then you might peel off something you don’t want peeled.
@@MotoJoee so I did mine, it bubbled up a little, and not as easy to pull off, but I got it. Thinking about removing and trying again. Did you put the plasti dip in hot water before you sprayed on?
@@jtcindahaus that’s weird that it bubbled up. Did you clean it with alcohol before you sprayed? Also, don’t spray it heavy if you did. Do a few light coats and allow it to dry before applying the next coats. I did not put the can in hot water before I applied it but did shake for the recommend time.
how long did u give time to dry?
Dry to the touch for me. If it feels sticky when you touch it, wait longer
Looks nice!
Looks far better original
No it doesn’t
That’s a Maverick meet up on the 19th in Houston fyi
Nice, where is it going to be at?
good job 👍
Thank you. Pretty ugly set up but it got the job done
@@MotoJoee it worked just fine. no worries
looks good
Sure hate the stock blue logos. So obnoxious. This is a big improvement.
Same here. Overall impressed with how it came out.
Toothe pick works better than exacto.
And is more forgiving
Tried the tooth pick and it wasn’t working for me
@@MotoJoee get good ones -no Wal-Mart cheap ones. Did same to my auto since dealers/orders want $1000 for this look
@@nosoupforyou425 ahh that’s why it didn’t work 😂 I got ‘em from Walmart! Yea it’s stupid how much they want for blacked out emblems
any updates?
Still going strong. No tears or anything 100% worth it
How much brother
How much for a can of plastidip? It’s like 7-9 bucks at Walmart
Who would want to looked better with the blue oval
I prefer the original
They have inserts you can buy I would not spray anything on my truck
Plastidip is harmless. It will peel right off! But I understand your point.
I think if I did that, I'd just leave everything black...
I hear ya, I just thought it would look weird being all black
@@MotoJoee You did a good job, and it works. I just want to hide that I own a Ford... is that bad. lol
@@Combatpzman haha wear the badge with pride my man and screw the haters!!
3 car washes and it will fall off. Especially over the chrome.
Negative. It’s been on for almost 2 years and been through countless washes. Still going strong
I did my riding lawn mower wheels with it...5 yrs ago. Still Goin. @JOSHIC
Looks great!
Yuck 🤮 You just showed me what not to do unbelievable
