LP! or All My Heroes or Cornballs. Definitely give Veteran a listen, but I would probs save it to after those, it's more experimental/bit more challenging.
the thing that fascinates me about Peggy is that u find urself listening to the production at first and getting drowned in it, then u come back and listen to how well he flows over the beats. def my fav of this decade and LP! (Offline) for the next reaction wen y’all get a chance 🙏🏾
Never seen you guys before but appreciate that you kept an open mind. You guys should definitely go deeper into both JPEG's and Danny Brown's discogs. That feeling of "I have no idea why I like this" gets SUPER addictive, and JPEGMAFIA is one of the best producers in the game because his production is so insanely detailed - dude on the right (sorry don't know your names!) is 100% right, you'll pick new stuff up on every listen. It's exciting and addicting once you adjust to the weirdness of what you're hearing. Super genuine reaction, earned the sub good shit.
Bruh I recently got into Peggy’s music and I don’t think I was fully paying attention the first time hearing it but the little drops in production hit me so hard when I listened to it a few hours ago that’s why I’m here
So cool to see people who've never heard it REALLY come to vibe with it. I've seen plenty try to play it up when it's obvious they're not really feeling it, not catching the vibe of the track. I can see in realtime when you guys are and aren't, and I can understand almost exactly what's happening with yall's reactions, as somebody who's already 'gone through the stages' of enjoying JPEG's music. There's a certain experience everyone seems to have when his style starts growin on em, this progression in their sensibilities that's really hard to fake. I've seen the transformation IRL and everything - this weird shit makes niches in your brain, you start plugging into everything differently and honestly, I think developing a taste for music like this also makes you appreciate more 'by the book' stuff just as much. Kinda just puts it all in a wider FOV in terms of what can be done, and why different producers do this or that, include these details and dial back others. The thing about it is, if you try to act like it's any other popular thing you'd usually enjoy, I know you're lying lol... there's so much that'll just hit you weird, or surprise you. Dude does not care what your expectations are, so inevitably every kind of listener will have their expectations betrayed, to the point where it can feel like an attack, like he's messing with you - but he's sincere and does want people to enjoy his stuff, puts a lot of work into all of the little details that make it worth listening over and over again. It's disorienting and mind-expanding stuff. But once you plug in, I think his sonic language just works and quite like you guys keep alluding to, has that "Why is this combination of things SO fire?!" deal to it. It's one of those things you have to adjust your bearings to in order to really roll with it. But super-rewarding when given the time. It's one of those things where individual tracks sound chaotic and almost 'conceptually' random, but with enough time on the discog, you come to realize it's this whole style with meticulous, granular level definition to it. You can absolutely profile what he does, it's just a very different profile from the norm. Peggy has very specific ways of getting things done, it's the opposite of random. That's part of why I think it actually works, it's all calculated chaos that is designed for you to decipher and begin to intuitively grasp as you listen. Part of what makes it all so creative is that one can't help but think the whole experience of 'coming to know' the music is deliberately crafted right into it. He has a way of getting you to like things that when you try to describe to other people, sound like they'd be terrible no matter how much you try to sell it lol. And then they hear it and go "WTF!" immediately, but with any luck, they go "OHHHHHHHH, THAT'S what he's goin for." a minute later. All I'm tryna say is, I can see it clicked with yall and I love to see it. You get a sub from me for just approaching this with an open mind and sincere intentions. Just makes it count for more when even just one of you really fucks with something. Thanks for this guys. My one complaint would be the echo on the audio of your speaking. Though as a JPEGMAFIA fan, I can handle that. OH, and yall should def check out Run The Jewels if you like this. EL-P is in the same wheelhouse as JPEG with production, both inspired by DOOM, Alchemist, FlyLo, that kinda stuff. Gritty, but high-caliber homebrew stuff, like a good homecooked meal... with coke sprinkled in the pot. Lotsa really unique hype beats. And then you have EL-P doing his NY shit as an emcee, doin tag-team demolition with Killer Mike and his dirty southern raps. Really, any of their 4 self-titled can sit right next to this, and Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition and XXX. It's that weird, off-color hype shit. Everything I just mentioned will scratch the itch for more like this.
I remember something Fantano said about Hazard Duty Pay! that really stuck with me. It’s like Peggy’s production has managed to hit a sweet spot of sounding completely unique, yet pretty accessible at the same time.

When you guys get to Atrocity Exhibition since you want to do more of both artists' work, you will witness some of the greatest rapping over increasingly difficult beats you ever listened to. JPEGMAFIA (who he himself refers to as Peggy) aka DeVaughn Hendricks has been releasing music for over a decade; entirely written, mixed and produced by himself aside from the few instances where stated otherwise. - He’s an air force veteran, and unironically an early vaporwave pioneer turned rapper because he wasn’t making good money off just his beats, among other things. He’s known for his aforementioned self-made everything and outlandish, bold and witty personality along with his sharp social commentary and radically progressive politics. - he has multiple EPs and tapes, including a project with longtime collaborator Freaky, and his previous four studio albums: Black Ben Carson, Veteran, All My Heroes Are Cornballs, and LP!
