What's wild is that they are only about 4k apart in price after the point of sale 7500 off--- and they might even have similar lease numbers🎉
Yeah sure...its 10k price difference but over a 3 yr period the maintenance and gas savings alone makes them equal in price.
Factor in state and national incentives and it can make the up front cost of the Tesla less than the Subawu. Then add up the maintenance and, in my opinion most importantly, the time savings of lack of maintenance on the Tesla, and I can’t justify buying the gas guzzler. Sure, some people like to drive a manual transmission. Ok.
You're leaving out the high cost of Tesla insurance.
With EV rebates, the difference is like $5k. Model 3 hands down. To each his own.
@@DefundTheFringes, State Farm has very reasonable insurance rates for Tesla. I pay $116/mo for my 2923 Model 3LR.
That's crap. Why am I subsidizing your purchase? The tax credits needs to end.
But, ICE manufacturers need to build in more maintenance. ICE vehicles are so terrible from a reliablity standpoint.
having owned a WRX and a Tesla Performance, there's no comparison. The Tesla is orders of magnitude better. Would make more sense to compare the Tesla to an AWD 911.
Depends what your definition of “better” is. The WRX is a better drivers car and is more fun to drive. It also is lighter and has amazing aftermarket support so if you enjoy tinkering with your car the WRX is amazing. It also retains its value very well and with the e-brake is a blast to drive in the snow.

Sold a brand new 22 wrx with this engine for a used 21 model 3 Long range with acc boost and its no comparison the model 3 destroys the wrx in almost every way in my opinion. Fyi they were both $30k my insurance is actually cheaper with the tesla as WRX’s are the most ticketed car in America. Overall, the Tesla is cheaper and faster.
Mine was the same. Sold 23 WRX Premium for a 24 Model 3 Performance. Insurance went down for more coverage. Granted they are both incredibly cheap compared to most places for me. Insurance is the least of the issues, but I love both cars for different reasons. The WRX was more comfortable for me. More fun to drive always. But being in my 30's with kids and a wife. the Model 3 is just an all around better daily driver.
@@ericsorenson1159 im a lil jealous lol looking at the 24 performance my self
@@jasonroberts6133 honestly if it wasn't for the tax credit i would have just got the long range of the refreshed model instead. i mean unless there are a few things you can't live without that it has over yours i honestly wouldn't bother for awhile. i think the only real big differences for me at all to the previous model would be the cooled seats. the upgraded cpu in the screen. (i'm a big big tech guy, i can't do anything slow anymore, bothers my brain). Other than that everything else is pretty superficial of a difference. I care nothing about speed of a car. I got a Model 3 instead of a WRX in 2022. Even though the WRX was my dream car since highschool. I am very happy with my choice.
You definitely made the right choice
@@tonyn3227
It saved me $3,600 in fuel costs last year. Definitely the best financial choice.
Why do none of these reviewers mention that MSRP is meaningless?? Y'all haven't factored in options (Teslas basically all come loaded), the dealer markup, bogus fees, and mandatory packages. And >90% of new car buyers qualify for the $7500 EV tax rebate and state incentives.
The Tesla is absolutely comparable in price or maybe even cheaper to purchase, not to mention all the fuel and maintenance savings. And no insurance isn't way higher. If your insurer is quoting a ridiculous premium, switch companies.
My 23 WRX Premium with Harmon Kardon/Sunroof and STi Short Throw was $32,200 new OTD, tax, tag, title, everything. so even with the tax credit for my Model 3 Performance it was $49,100 everything said and done. Definitely a pretty significant difference, obviously prices will vary wildly but just giving a little real world insight to someone who has done it very recently for both cars. Granted over time it will save me about $500 a month in gas w/electricity calculated into charging the Tesla, but it was a $17k price difference between the two. That's a pretty large chunk. This is also to say, not to buy an overpriced TR edition of the WRX, Would never spend over 35k for a WRX even though it is my favorite car.
@@ericsorenson1159 premium isn’t on the level of the TR though which is what this is compared to
@@GenghisGaming that’s why i mentioned it, but the TR edition adds some brembo brakes and the recaro seats essentially (among a few little extras) not even remotely worth another 12k but to each their own. realistically a wrx is a 32k car or less. a model 3 performance is 54k. (minus incentives if applicable) now if they continued the STi on the other hand. (whether it will be electric or not) might have been a closer comparison. but either way it’s a unique comparison regardless.
This video seems like it was personally directed at me. I was just now looking at videos of WRX's and Model 3 Highland's. This feels weirdly personal lol.
I feel the exact same. Weird timing. I just ordered a Model 3 performance a few weeks ago. Currently own a 2023 WRX Premium in World Rally Blue that I've had for a year now. Used to have a 2016 WRX also in World Rally Blue. It was weird to see a video comparing the two for me as they are so different but i love it.
I had a 2019 STI, stage 2 and it was a lot of fun to drive. But I wanted to put more money into it, making it less reliable. Got a 21 M3P and I freaking love it. I’d get another STI just to scratch the working on my car itch haha
We had a 2009 WRX for about 8 years and I got a M3P in 2021. Only thing I really miss about the WRX is sliding it around on dirt roads. That thing was so fun off tarmac and in the snow
@@rcktmn I’m gonna be shopping for my first car soon, so I need y’all’s opinions on this. I live in Ontario Canada where there’s snow and stuff in the winter, and I really like the new WRX, but my dad also thinks that we should get a Tesla since we already have a gas-powered car in our family (its the only one at the moment). My dad and I both like the new Model 3 Highland, but my dad says that the Model Y is a better car and that we should wait for the 2025 Refreshed Y since it will probably have the M3HL’s features but on a “more practical” body.
So what do you guys think? Should I follow my heart and rally racing dreams and get a WRX, or should I embrace the future and go for a Model 3 / Model Y?
@@ericsorenson1159 Please post here once you drive your M3P in the wet outside of track mode. If I understand correctly, only Plaid versions have torque vectoring, my MYP behaves way less predictable in the wet than my 3.6L Outback.
I drove a heavily modified wrx hatch for the past 11ish years and then went heretic and moved to a 24 MYP. I have driven every generation of WRX/STI trims on the street and at track events/meets and while there are mechanical advantages of the VA/VB engines over the EJ255/EJ257, it still feels bad to me to lose the unique sound of the unequal length headers in the EJ engine. They also dont feel or look as special to me compared to the GR and prior models. Honestly the new WRX's remind me of Honda Accords too much.
I couldn't bring myself to sell my WRX when I went to the MYP so i kept it - but I choose the tesla 99% of the time when I drive, and let my 16yo drive the WRX.
Letting your 16 yr old drive the WRX sounds like a recipe for disaster. Can't imagine what the insurance for it must be "if" your agent knows it is being driven by a 16 yr old. Lol.
When you actually get a real 350 mile range with the air on and driving in hilly areas and can charge an EV to 100% in the same time it takes me to fill up my tank, then you can come talk to me. I'm not down for spending another 2-3 hours to go visit my dad or my son. I'm sure they're great around town, but an EV doesn't work for me having only one car. Several of my coworkers have Model 3 Performance Teslas, but they won't take them on long trips for the same issues that I have. EVs may be faster, but it's not just about that. I can cook a steak in a microwave, but It's much better cooked on the grill. A significant part of my driving enjoyment are the exhaust sounds and much better driver engagement, and I'm not willing to give that up just for being faster between stoplights. No hate for you EV lovers, but they're not for me... at least not right now.
I had a guy in a WRX try to flex on me one time at a stop light. My MYLR schooled him good 🤣
Clearly he didn't know electric torque is instant lol
BIRGing is for teenagers. Get out and run to really prove something.
I own a model 3 but all you did is smash a pedal. Not that impressive lol
It's important for both people to enjoy it. I have MYP and I find that Subaru's AWD is way more convenient / predictable in the wet. Outside of track mode, MYP tends to grab brakes and spins unnecessary if you're trying to overpower it.
Too funny, I was with my boss who owns a Model X and a Lamborghini tried to overtake us but had a hard time keeping up. We were laughing are arses off.
I was looking into getting 2023 WRX last year, and crash test results were pretty bad. Got MYP instead. I'd love to drive a manual WRX instead, but I needed a vehicle I can drive every day to work with 50% highway. I don't care about acceleration anymore, I'd totally get a WRX, but man they should make the pillars stronger.
You get $7500 off on the Model 3 Performance which brings the price very close within $4-5k difference. The WRX then sounds a little over priced! No brainer
You only get that if you get the free color and qualify financially not worth mentioning
the tax credit makes its very hard not to go with the M3
Study what it costs to insure a Tesla, though.
@@DefundTheFringes varies wildly on location, i had a new honda accord and paid 225$ Canadian, and my Model Y is 259$.. not that much more

Models 3 P is leaps ahead to be honest. It has less or no maintenance much faster plus it’s cheaper to run. Technology wise there is a world of difference. The end conclusion is if you want you can drive the model 3 p really fast or you can relax and has a smoother ride. Model 3 p is the winner clearly
10k difference? some one for got about the instant 7500 dollar tax incentive...
And state incentives. A few states offer $5K or somewhere around there. That’s $12.5K difference, making the M 3 cheaper up front, with double the power, and probably 4x the brake life, infinity more drivetrain lifespan, and on and on fewer maintenance costs.
Yea it varies by state and person so that is up to them to decide and these change annually. That's up to the individual to decide
Yeah I noticed as well that the potential tax credit wasn’t mentioned in the video. Something like that could really influence a buyer.

Dude.... 🤜🤛 Gonna be epic.
Yup
I’m a car car guy. I own a supercharged 2000 Nsx and have always had the car to drive. I just got a Model Y and it’s amazing. The Wrx is a fantastic car. You really can’t compare a wrx or a M3 against a Model 3. They are totally different and shine in different aspects. A Model 3 performance will never compare to some fantastic gas cars and Vs Versa. Crazy the divide of some people.
I agree, need 2 cars. Mine are 2024 MYP and a 2016 981 Spyder. Perfect for my garage.
Best comment!!! Someone that enjoys driving and loves every type of engineering, not swayed by marketing. Thanks
There’s no gas car that compares to the model 3 under the same price. That’s fact. Not that hard to think.
@@THExKINGxKINGx at this point I just feel like these people are trolling, there's no way somebody could be so insecure/immature in a car preference right?
I'm gonna disagree with you. Autopilot is like 80% of real life driving. I'd say it's worth a mention. But whatever. Love your videos man
Tesla. You won't regret it once you experience the torque and self driving and no maintance. It's everything in one car!
Nice review and I would agree we don't need to be tribal, ie, hate others who drive different types of cars. However, I am very much a pro EV person if nothing else because I reckon we are experiencing climate change and more extreme weather as a consequence. And I don't want my house, my neighbourhood, my city wrecked from an extreme weather event because people are hesitant to change. Also I really like clean air, and how quiet EVs are. Think how much better regarding both living on a busy road will be if EVs become the majority. So I have owned a whole lot of muscles cars, my last, a turbo charged Ford was extraordinary at the height of its powers. But I love my new Tesla Model 3 Performance so much, love the acceleration, that the regen behaves just like a manual car as a result of the engine braking, how well it handles, how quiet and comfortable it is, how roomy it is and I am 6'2". I certainly don't miss the sound of a muscle car, in fact now I cringe when I hear one making a huge amount of noise. Give me the much faster EV any day.
The WRX is an everyday driver’s car while the tesla is much more of a “luxury” everday car. If you love driving (especially stick) and need more practicality than a brz get the wrx. If you love technology and pretty much not care much of the driving dynamics but also want something that can kick ass just get the m3p.
I don't mind ICE cars, I mind the local emissions and pollutions that causes health issues in our communities.
That refreshed model 3 performance is amazing..... Tesla nailed it with the improvements.
Best statement: “ I heard lesbians like Subarus, well sounds like they like the right car” 😂😂😂😂 this is GOLD!!!
BMW M3 XDRIVE Competition weighs 3,891 lbs. The Model 3 Performance is around 4060 lbs. Model 3 is lower price and quicker. Better tech. Quieter. It's not going to hit 290 km/h (only 260 km/h), but most people will rarely go that fast.
The only thing better about the BMW or Subaru is that music the engines make, but I'm over owning a musical car. I've had them and I'm done with it.
Bingo..
I think it's funny every reviewer of the 2024 Performance points out the slits in the front bumper as if those are new to the M3P lol
Different shape but they’ve always had them 👍😁
I totally agree that it doesn’t have to be “ Us vs. Them” mentality. People would make it their whole personalities disliking Tesla owners 😂
Nailed it! Without bias. I want to drive the Subaru! Thank you for your great perspective. I hope the seat wasn’t too moist. Damn AZ heat…
Oh cmon. Not even close.

There's no comparison. The Subaru is not performance oriented. 😂

Gas…yuk 🤢🤮
I personally think the Tesla warp wheels with the covers is one of the best looking factory wheels ever put on a car
come on now.. this isn't a fair comparison at all
Nice comparison. As a model 3 owner the only two things I miss about ICEs are manual transmission and exhaust sound. I don't think I'd buy another automatic ICE.
So much hate for the Subie in the comments lol, your average Tesla owner thinks speed is everything for a fun car...
I agree, I been within the EV world when my dad got the 2018 model 3, I still love watching videos on ICE cars but I can never go back after driving evs. I barely drive on standard mainly chill mode and it’s still fun to drive. Speed is good but it isn’t everything.
Love Subaru’s. But most on here are talking about modify their cars. If you want more power in a Subaru just be careful of blown head gaskets! M3P is faster than 99% of daily drivers, a blast to drive and inexpensive to operate. Fact is EV’s are as bad today as they will ever be. 20 years from now it won’t even be a contest.
Current WRXs lack unequal length headers. So they no longer sound like older WRXs.
I love you man but how did you manage to gloss over the part where the Tesla drives itself and the federal rebate makes them within 5k? Both cool for sure
he probably is in a higher tax bracket, so I doubt he got the tax credit, he also got red with white seats, so he definitely didn't get the credit.
I am looking at how the cars feel and perform so I don't care much about that aspect. People can figure that out when looking into costs
@Gjeebs - If you were going to mention the price, which you did, you should have mentioned the federeal tax credit and possible state credits. You mentioned in your video a few times about it being 10k difference so you indeed made it a point about the price difference.
Huge opportunity lost for people out there that may not know.
Please compare Model 3 Performance and Ioniq 5N next.
Something I haven't heard people talk about with the Model 3 is that is is RELAXING to drive, in a way I have never experienced with any other car.
Luxury sports sedan for sure.
Major point you missed; good luck getting the Subaru at MSRP. Rip off dealers mark them up 10K. Tesla blows it away in all measurable aspects of performance as well as the BUYERS experience.

In all fairness I did say it in the video

Ah - my favorite Tesla guy! Always fair!
What a coincidence the WRX was my outgoing car and I just got the dual motor 3
Tesla will dust any STI all day long..
I have never seen a car as just a tool. It represents freedom and it has gotta be something you can build a relationship with. A car's gotta be personable and private. The freedom and rights I enjoy today are hard-earned over generations and I will not regress in that aspect. I feel yucky about the lack of privacy with a Tesla. Can't trust a snitch and don't want to live under the lens. It was only a few years ago in the news that Tesla got sued because former employees anonymously confirmed that extremely private and sometimes embarrassing footage of customers had been shared around the company including but not limited to nudity. I also believe the tethered nature of electric power, in conjunction with the legislated push for electric cars, while simultaneously dragging their feet with any form of drastic development of a charging infrastructure, is a clear attempt by governing powers to exhibit control over the movement of the populace. I will not willingly support such an agenda. I won't be under lock down ever again if I can help it. Until the privacy concerns are addressed, the Tesla is not a perfect daily driver as so many claim.
Now add the simulated 8 speed dual clutch with a 4 cylinder ICE. Take classes and track it. Prove to the computer that you can learn and receive v8 flat plane crank over the air.
I literally was between a tesla and a WRX. Ended up going with a Y and never looked back. Best decision I have made
Model Y is super ugly lol
Should of gone with the 3
I went from niche Subaru Impreza, and purposely waited for the niche Long range dual motor Tesla Model 3. I just got my second Dual Motor Long Range Model 3 Highland to replace my 2018 Model 3 Dual Motor Long Range.
I used to own a 1999 BMW Z3 roadster. Now I drive a 2023 Tesla Model 3LR. They are both very good driving cars. The Tesla is quicker, but the BMW has a smaller turning radius. The convertible was really fun until I got skin cancer. The Tesla gives me an open feeling without the UV. The one-pedal driving can be really fun on a mountain canyon road. The Tesla is a much better roadtripping car. Everyone has to make their own +/- comparisons for their individual use cases.
"Ok! Sounds like they like the right vehicle." One of the best Gjeebs lines ever. Keep up the good work, and congrats on all the success with your channel!
…I have a 2018 M3P…and love it…and with the new model 3 Performance, I just can’t see enough of a power difference to justify going to the new model…when Tesla eventually give the M3P another 200 horsepower, then I’ll consider upgrading…but I will never go back to pumping gas…
I think we are on the same page, it's ridiculous that some use the drivetrain as a reason to divide themselves from other enthusiast. I also have a bit of a problem with those that tell you how bad a car/bike is having never driven or owned one. I used to race and rally and my favourite ICE car was a Vauxhall VX220 turbo. A small mid-engined car from GM with a Lotus chassis. 500kg lighter than the stripped out Porsches and Ferraris, you literally drove around the outside of them on bends on track days. These days I have an 8 year old Model S, that's currently covered 264,000 miles, no rattles or squeaks and I've just started replacing the suspension components, so while it would be nice if the interior was more like a Merc for fit and finish, I'd say the engineering and build quality of the rest of the car is top notch. The lack of noise and gear changes makes the drive different, but once you get used to a different driving style, you can have a lot of fun in an EV. And like you say, you can be very quick without much effort. I do a lot of long trips, I regularly drive down to southern Italy from the UK and I know that even after driving all day, I can accelerate hard out of a corner and the car isn't going to check if my reflexes are still sharp. Re the Miata/MX5 you mentioned, there's a company in the UK that puts the all alloy Jaguar 2.5 V6 in them. It weights less than the original engine and is a bit more compact. So you keep the original handling but have much better power and torque and a V6 soundtrack. Look up the Rocketeer, if that interests you.
I've been fully enjoying the hell out my 23 WRX, but I'm a long commuter for the past year, and now long for a high-tech Tesla and $400 per month in gas savings. Thinking I'll be trading in the WRX soon as my practical side is now winning out. 😂
You are for sure sponsored by Subaru. I’ve driven both and I’m sorry but they are not even close in anyway with track and quarter mile time. The Subaru is 100m behind in a 400m drag race. So a full quarter of the track in 400m. You gotta be joking
Suburu is lame, sorry
The minivan was probably doing 50 mph and the G-wagon that came after was probably doing 45 mph. You might want to leave speed estimations to the professionals. Otherwise, great video.
I have a 2019 model 3 performance , it will be hard to go back to a gas car thats slower. Had a v8 genesis before that which are pretty impressive build quality etc
After hearing you talk about the adaptive suspension on your new Model 3 how would compare it to your model Y with the Unplugged aftermarket suspension setting 0. I’m looking for a softer ride.
Steve
Great video! really appreciate it. Jesus Christ is alive! Doing what he says in the Bible will give you awesome powers and gifts. And Eternal life! God bless you! All things are for him, by him and through him.
If you asked me if I would rather have the WRX for free, or pay the 55 grand for the Tesla, I'd pay the 55 grand for the Tesla. That's how much more I like the M3P than the WRX.
Every time i compare a tesla with an ice car, the tesla generally wins hands down. But once i compare them with a manual ice car, the decision becomes far more difficult to make.
I really would need to drive them back to back and see which i would go with but now that im thinking about it, a sportbike is more engaging than any sportscar, and its way cheaper. I could have a model 3 as a fun daily, but also have a sportbike on the weekends. That's probably what i would do.
I removed the aero bits on the wheels at 300 miles and I have had several complements since.
I think the longer they are left on, the more scratches you'll get on the wheels because of the grit/dirt that builds up where they touch the wheels. They were poorly designed in my opinion.
As crazy as it sounds, I am cross shopping between WRX TR and Model 3 LR
If you can charge at home, the Model 3 is a no brainer. Such a fun car.
That's actually a better comparison
I was in the same boat in 2022. WRX was what I had wanted since highschool but the data led me to the Model 3. It turned out to be the best car I have ever owned and I charge for free at home while I sleep.
You're not the only one!
Tesla just been cooking for years now and people still gonna hate. The Wrx is a great car but it isn’t special, tech isn’t great, overpriced and speed isn’t that impressive unless you buy kits. Tesla tech is the best tech within any car and the performance is amazing. A lot of people hate on Tesla and never been in one just follow the crowd.
Not a fair comparison. Should compare WRX to Model 3 RWD ... perfomance has like 240hp advantage...
I'm just done with clutches, gear shifts, noise ... and especially wasting my life (and cash) pumping gas. I just appreciate having 300 miles "in the tank" every morning and effortless performance.
Documentation beats conversation... You need to show the speedometer readouts in real time, especially around corners. Cornering performance separates the men from the boys!!
I have a 2022 model WRX and dislike it in many ways. I’m about sell it and replace it with the M3P - even before I saw this video.
So what kind of real world range are you getting? (Say you don't drive insane)
I haven't tested this yet but I will show in a future video
I'll take the Subaru
Model 3 performance is beautiful and the tech with over the air updates never dates the car, the Subaru exterior is to boy racer for my liking and the interior straight up makes me feel depressed.
If you need noise to feel good, eat a few bean burritos. Half the time that would probably sound better than most 4 or 6-cyl engines anyway.
Great review. The WRX interior looks like windows 95 when compared to M3P.
Subaru cars are great until the warranty runs out. Then the maintenance will quickly turn this $42K car into a $50K car.
The S is so much better than the 3. I’ve owned multiple m3p’s and just got a plaid. It’s AMAZING. Highly recommend it over the model 3.
Well you get what you pay for. 😉😎
Wrong. I’ve owned both.
Mr. Gjeebs, do you ever see yourself owning another enthusiast car ?
I’ve been here since your Focus ST and M2 days. Love your humor and sarcasm 😂 on the channel.
Yea I'd really like a GR Corolla. I appreciate your support over the years!
The TR definitely seems like a good option for those who don’t care about tech and want an engaging driving experience. So many other brands, like VW with the GTI, are ditching the manual for their “enthusiast” car
A subaru Is never a good option 🤣
it doesnt make sense to compare, Tesla way advance than WRXXCCLSDT R (dont care)
my last model 3 had 60000 miles no rotation. had plenty of wear left. my car was just totaled 2024 on the way!
i dont own any but EV cars are mostly boring including tesla, have rode them plenty through uber. lol. sad part is those fun cars are slow but then again normal people dont break speed records haha
WRX looks like junk, especially comparing with new 3 performance.
Wrong class to compare. I like to see M3 Performance vs OG BMW M3. Let's go.
This isn't good comparison tbh. I'd compare it to G70 3.3T or even better M340i
I would chose a Model 3 over a WRX, a WRX is fun but not the most fun manual option out there.
Why are you comparing a word processor to a typewriter? And who the heck is interested in typewriters anyway
If you have both of them in your driveway the Model 3 gets used 95% of the time, been there done that.
I had 2 STI's and 1 wrx. Now in a model y, never again go back.
Pop those aero caps off, looks much sportier. Also, I wish Tesla would go with a brighter orange/red like the wrx, looks a bit maroon in comparison (still cool though)
You need to be out of your mind to compare newest Tesla 3 performance with this garbage
12:00 "and you never had to use your turn signal cuz it was a BMW." 😂
