The stylish S-MAX Hybrid continues to blend sporty exterior styling with the practicality and flexibility of a people mover. Easily configurable seating and load space combinations deliver up to 2,200 litres of load capacity behind the first row of seats. Towing capacity from 1,560 kg to 1,750 kg depending on variant can support leisure activities.
Battery charge is automatically replenished by the petrol engine and by using regenerative charging technology when coasting or braking. With no need for owners to plug into an external power source, S-MAX Hybrid is designed to seamlessly fit into family life - always ready to deliver an electrified driving experience regardless of unpredictable schedules.
Electric power helps deliver the most refined S-MAX driving experience yet. Regenerative braking technology captures up to 90 per cent of the energy normally lost during braking to help charge the battery. Power is sent to an electric motor that can drive the front wheels on its own to pull away silently from a standstill. The motor can also deliver pure-electric driving for short periods, for ultimate refinement and zero-emission driving particularly in urban environments. The battery’s liquid cooling system eliminates the need for a cooling fan, helping further reduce noise levels inside the cabin.
The new S-MAX Hybrid can continue to offer all the space and flexibility of existing S-MAX models in both five- and seven-seat variants by integrating its 60-cell lithium-ion battery within a crash absorbent, waterproof structure beneath the floor of the rear luggage space.
In addition, the electric motor works alongside the petrol engine to deliver from 6.4 l/100 km fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions from 146-147 g/km WLTP, making S-MAX Hybrid a compelling alternative to Ford’s EcoBlue diesel powertrains.
The 190 PS powertrain delivers 0‑100 km/h acceleration in 9.8 seconds. Smooth, linear acceleration complements S-MAX’s inherently sporty character and is supported by a redesigned motor-generator controller that seamlessly switches between pure-electric, hybrid and petrol power.
Each S-MAX Hybrid occupant can enjoy connectivity on the move via the standard FordPass Connect modem that provides WiFi for up to 10 devices, and allows drivers to plan faster, less stressful journeys with Live Traffic updates for the navigation system.
In addition, FordPass Connect enables remote features including Door Lock Unlock, Vehicle Status and Vehicle Locator via the FordPass mobile app, 7 as well as Ford’s sophisticated Local Hazard Information. The technology can inform drivers of a hazardous situation on the road ahead, even if the incident is not visible due to a bend in the road or other vehicles.
Making long journeys more comfortable for driver and front passenger, 18-way adjustable seats available for Trend and Titanium variants have the seal of approval from the leading spinal health organisation Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V. (the Campaign for Healthier Backs). The S‑MAX Vignale Hybrid features heated and cooled, 10-way-adjustable, driver and front passenger seats with massage function.
All three second-row seats feature Isofix points for securely fitting child safety seats, and Easy Fold Seats for the second and third rows make it simple to maximise load space by individually folding them flat using a push-button control panel in the boot space. Available hands-free tailgate technology also makes it easy to access the boot space while carrying grocery bags, packages or toddlers.

So true what you are saying about quality vs price. The price is good considering what you are getting. I have the S-Max Vignale diesel AWD 190 HP 2019 and we all love it in the family. Super quiet, super comfortable and no squeaks or rattles at all after 100k Km. So far it has been very reliable as well, only one small problem due to a lose cable which was causing a false alarm, fixed under warranty. For comparison, I had together with the S-Max also a C class W205 fully loaded...man that was a disaster in terms of quality, especially considering that it costed 20k more compared to the S-Max. I sold the C class and planning to keep the S-Max for many more years (I have a Z4 now for the fun :) ).

I had 2006 C-Max, 2009 S-Max and 2018 S-Max - all great cars. Now I have more money and bought a Cayenne E-Hybrid and I have to say I miss my Fords.

Thanks for this video ! I have this Smax since 2 weeks and it’s a really great car. I only did 300 kms in the city mostly, and I reached an incredible 6,1/100 !!! I couldn’t believe it. I confirm it is very silent and very comfortable. I owned several Smax before and I can say you can not forget it when you’ve had one.

Lol see this is why I want a hybrid as my next car. I used to have a Fiesta and that did 6,7 round town on a good day. My current Focus wagon does 10+ if you drive like a grandpa. And this monster does 6,1, how can people hate hybrids?
We have the 190 PS diesel awd and everybody in the family absolutely loves it. The Hybrid was not available yet.

Hey Dan, great review of this amazing car. I've got older S-Max, 2.0 Duratorq/Diesel titanium X version, 2016, AWD and I love that car. Now ordered brand new Hybrid, ST-Line in Blue Metallic, which is incredibly looking car and family car with a lot of space. Amazing. I'm looking forward to having it at home and drive it though it takes months to get it here in Slovakia in these crazy times. Expected delivery March to May 2023, but cannot wait. Thanks a lot for your great, honest video with real scenes of driving experience and that we could listen and see how smooth, silent and agile is that engine. Great job! Best from Slovakia.

I'm sad they don't make many MPVS/van-style cars like this. They are so space-efficient. Suvs just have a rugged look but are cramped as heck inside... This is definitely my dream car though.

We have a 2023 Ford smax 2.5 litre 4c and a powerful battery (Dont know how many kw) AWD makes 355 hp and 500 nm, not as brutal of accel as our old 2016 ford galaxy turbo st line, we were supposed to get a reverse camera and the A pillar removed but that didnt happen for some reason, and we love our smax, 500 miles on the clock and we alr love it

Dan's excellent tests were certainly a factor in my buying and taking delivery of a new S-Max last week. If any owner is interested, I have set up a Facebook group Ford S-Max and Galaxy HEV Owners International where we can all share ownership and driving experiences. The S-Max and Galaxy are far from a mainstream choice these days.

nice vid. I dont understand why you ant stand with your foot on the break pedal. Switch to N so xd, that´s why AT has N.
Not really...N it is not for parking....not when you have a P mode. When you drive and stop at stop signs you have to press the brake until AutoHold will hold the car ....if the car have autohold...

Mine will be a blue metallic Titanium with technology pack, which includes among other things the adaptive LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor. I must say the ST looks brilliant.
I too have gone for the St-line in magnetic grey with the upgraded 19" alloys. As a young man (before kids) I had an 05 plate Honda civic sport in grey and in some ways it reminds me of this car, similar shape. The S-max st-line kind of looks like it's bigger brother lol.
How about High way driving? How much is fuel consuption in L/100km?
