    Easily one of the more tragic stories in BioShock.. Lamb is a monster who uses people for her own gain. Gil did everything for her and she just took advantage. The poor man only wanted to make things better in rapture..

      how could you...
      Edit: ok worse you Release a insane Monster into the Sea wich has access to a Endless amount of Adam wich mutates him even further putting everyone in Danger by creating a Uncontrolable Force of Nature with the Power to level Citys

    Not far from that place is the deep sea trench where Persephone is located. At the bottom is the glowing biomass that the sea slugs got the ability to produce ADAM from. Letting the already monstrous, insane Alex "live outside" and potentially find his way down there to a limitless supply of the stuff sounds like a bad idea to me.

    [SPOILER]
    I was so confused with the moral choice you had to make over Gil, and which one was considered "good" - you have his sane persona begging you to kill him, whilst his current personally begs to live. Surely his sane mind is more capable of making decisions than his broken insane personality?
    I've seen a few people debating why sparing him is the "good" choice, and it's finally clicked with me.
    Basically, the "sane Gil" is, to all intents and purposes, dead. He's gone. His last wish is for you to destroy what he's going to become.
    However, the version of Gil that emerged wants to live. Even if he's stuck in a tube for the rest of his life, he desperately wants to survive.*
    So you have two versions, two personalities, essentially two people who are asking you to do something - end a life.
    Sane Gil doesn't want any part of him to exist if he becomes an insane monster, no matter what.
    The new Gil knows this and is aware of his new existence. Whether or not he's insane doesn't really matter to him - he wants to live.
    Sane Gil died a long time ago.
    Insane Gil still lives.
    So, who's actually going to be affected by your decision the most going forward?
    *whether he does actually survive by the end is a separate matter

    • @joaopedropelisson5925
      @joaopedropelisson5925 4 года назад +1

      That's a very good point on why sparing him is the good choice. Now, allow me to introduce my point on why not sparing him is also a good choice.
      You are right in one thing: the sane gil alexander is gone, basically dead at that point in the game. So i don't think we should judge him by the last wishes of the sane gil, but by the actions of the new one. (Just like we judge any other character in the game, by his actions)
      So, based upon the actions of this "new" identity, i don't think that leting him alive is the best choice. No matter how much he begs to live, his a freacking psycopath crazy with power that only keeps people alive as long as they have some use to him. Walking through fontaine futuristics you can find lots of corpses from people that he murdered purely out of anger or because they didn't have any more use to him, so he "fires" them (quite literally).
      He even names himself "alex the great" and demands everyone to obey him (when you enter the fontaine futuristics building, you can even see him murdering a splacer in cold blood just because he misspelled his name).
      Not to mention that once subject delta has the genetic key, gil is unconscious, but if you don't kill him, do you really think he will be jus "cool" with it? No! When he wakes up, he will probably figure out a way to fix his security bots and kill anyone that even thinks about repeating what delta did, making him even more angry and blood thirsty. But this time no one will ever find a way to kill him. Making him an even more sadistic dictator that can't be killed.
      Anyway you do have a good point.

    • @anonymouscontributor1520
      @anonymouscontributor1520 4 года назад

      Joãopedro Pelisson Well in all fairness, the main reason to go to where Alex the Great was in the first place was to get his genetics to complete some sort of key that would take you to where Eleanor and Sofia were. Once that objective was completed, he kind of became no use to anyone anymore and there’d be no reason to go to where he is.
      If he wants to spend an eternity all alone, that’s on him.

    • @Blue_Sonnet
      @Blue_Sonnet 4 года назад +1

      @@joaopedropelisson5925 Sorry for taking so long to reply! I didn't remember the exact state that Gil was left in if you spared him, but your last interaction ends with him begging for you to spare his life & vowing never to return to the outside world. If you pull the switch he is electrocuted & he's definitely fully conscious before and during that action: [bioshock.fandom.com/wiki/File:Killing_Gill_-_Bioshock_2_(HD)_Gameplay!!!]
      Since the other choice is to walk away, it seems that he's fully conscious when spared - you've already disconnected him from Rapture's systems (by destroying the four signal relays he used) to float in his jar for all eternity. Until everything goes kaboom, of course!
      Since he can no longer control anything outside his jar, he's not a threat to anyone - theoretically he could persuade someone to fix the relays for him, but the area is cut off from the rest of Rapture. All that's left are a couple of Big Daddies & a handful of totally insane splicers, neither of which would be able (or even willing) to perform such a complex & intricate a task.
      That said, my instinct when first playing the game followed that of many others - it feels like you should kill Gil out of mercy. But then you have to ask yourself: Who is suffering right now? Will the suffering stop if you choose to kill in the name of mercy? How likely is it that your action or inaction would result in the suffering of others?
      Interestingly there's one question I didn't even think of before. Have you ever heard of that moral dilemma where you're at a train junction & a control lever. Five people are tied to the tracks ahead of you & the oncoming train. You also see one tied to another track that branches off, so if you pull the lender the train will go down the branch-off instead. Your instinct might be to pull the lever (save five people at the cost of one life) but is that your choice to make? Is it morally acceptable to take an active part in someone's death, or is it better to not become involved in this horrific scenario? After all, you didn't tie those people to the tracks, someone else put this plan into motion and they're the sole reason people are going to die no matter what you do.
      It's hard to explain the moral dilemma of this scenario, but it's wanting you to consider whether you're willing to become a cog in this machine of death & take on the same choice as the person who caused this. If you choose to act them someone who could have lived if you didn't act, will now die because you decided to pull the lever. The single victim on the track doesn't get to choose whether or not they die for others, you're making that choice not only for the single victim, but for the other five as well as those on the train. If you choose to act & become part of the scenario, then the single victim will die because you decided to pull the lever and make it happen. You decided that those five people should be more important than the single person. What if you know a bit more about the people involved?
      What if the group have terminal cancer whilst the single person is a small child?
      What if the five people are your immediate family & the single person is a total stranger or someone you actively dislike? Why do those facts matter when it's still a case of killing one to save five?
      Sorry this is so long, it's just a really interesting thought experiment which is similar to your choice with Gil. Killing him means that you have to physically pull the lever & kill him with your own hand. Or do you just leave, refusing to become involved at all once you've got what you needed? Refusing to make a decision could be seen as an active decision in itself, but it gets really complicated if you want to know for certain whether refusing to get involved counts as specifically CHOOSING not to act, or if it's NOT choosing to act.
      So yeah, basically it can get super complicated when you think about it too much.

      I only spared him so Eleanor wouldn't get the wrong idea of justice and misunderstand my intent. It is interesting in terms of narrative, but in gameplay, I do wish there was more to it. You know how Gracie would be grateful if you spared her life, making yours a bit easier later on? I kinda wish Alex The Great did that, contacting you and expressing genuine remorse about what he did, making it up to you by giving you a bit of Adam or something while in Persephone.

    "DISMISSED! FIRED! TERMINATED!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" I think he based his "The Great" performance on The Invisible Man. Pretty fitting, what Monocain did to Jack Griffin, Adam did to Gil Alexander. But damn, if what his normal form said about the Alpha Series is true, it really shows the consequences of even going through with the experiment. He said that Alpha Series were designed to feel crippling despair when something bad happens to a Little Sister, or otherwise when they are no longer considered Little Sisters. And keep in mind, you fight a near endless supply of them in the finale. Unless they happen to be using vita stations, just imagine how many Little Sisters were lost. Gil's absence in Infinite is depressing since he was such an important part of the lore.
